The Otherside: Jay McClayn: This Is High School (Book 1)

Chapter 21

A few weeks had passed by from that night. He still doesn’t know I know. I don’t even know how I would even be able to confront him about Alice. I can’t just say “Jason I spied on you and Harrison and I know about Alice.” That would be just plain stupid. I don’t want him or me to get hurt or cause more trouble than it’s worth. I think if I confront him about it, it will be more trouble than it’s worth. I just don’t want to lose him.

“Jay?” I heard Jason’s voice break my train of thought. We were in the Cafeteria with Alex. “What’s wrong?” I shook myself out of my headspace to reply.

“Nothing.” I paused. “I just remembered something.” I lied. I was still thinking of him and Alice.

“Oh...” Jason said he sounded disappointed. I think he knew I was lying.

Alex broke in, “It’s almost time for class.” In other words “Jay, I want to talk to you alone.”

“I will see you after school, Jason.” I said as we all got up.

“Okay.” Jason replied. He kissed my cheek and went off to his class.

Alex and I keep having almost the same schedule; we have the same class after lunch again. We began to walk off together quietly until Alex broke the silence.

“What is your problem Jay? He is back in your life and your still upset? What did he do? Is it the antidote? Or are you still mad he left?” I cut him off before he could make more scenarios or come up with more ideas.

“Alex, I don’t want to talk about it.” I said to him hoping he would drop it, but he didn’t.

“You know the you-not-telling-me thing is making me think of all the possibilities.” He paused and then whispered. “Did you two have bad sex?”

I slapped him across the face. “No! I’m still a virgin. I’m saving that until marriage.” I whispered back angrily.

“I told you it’s only going to make me think of all the possibilities.” He replied with a devilish grin. I then pushed him up against some lockers.

“If you tell anyone, including Jason, because he doesn’t even know I know, I will kill you!” After I said that he just smiled and then hugged me.

“You should know by now that you can trust me.”

I sighed and pulled away. “Okay, I just found out that Jason had a thing with this girl named Alice before he found me again and well, before he came back.” I paused “He claimed to Harrison she kissed him and he told her that he found me and wants her to back off” I paused again. “Alice is a half dragon, half witch.”

Alex put his finger over my lips. “Calm down, your sentences are blurring together. All I have to comment is so what Jay? It’s not like he chose to cheat, and technically we were together. He wasn’t committed to you. He loves you and if that doesn’t prove it than you are nuts.”

I sighed. “You’re right about that, but I overheard that she is a great witch and a great fighter in her dragon form.”

I was confused at first when he just busted out laughing at my comment on Alice, but then he went on to explain. “You have me, a vampire, Jason a half wolf- half wizard, and Harrison a full wizard. Plus you have yourself that is a great witch and you have been working on you shifting. You will be fine. Now let’s get to class.”

What he said really helped me rationalize things. “Thanks Alex.” I said feeling better now.

We walked the rest of the way to the class. I don’t know what I would do without Alex to help me sort things out and helping me realize that everything is okay. The day went by slowly, class after class. I think it was because I wanted to talk to Jason and make up with him, even though he doesn’t know why I was upset.

Eventually time passed and school let out. I quickly raced to meet Jason outside.

“Jason!” I ran up and hugged him tight. I think I surprised him.

He hugged me back. “We should be getting home.” I felt a squeeze before he broke the hug. He grabbed my hand and we began to walk.

“Jason, I need to tell you something.”

He paused for a second. “What is it?” He faced me.

I felt fear to tell him, but I pushed through it and told him. “I know about Alice. I overheard you and Harrison New Years. I-I just want to say that it’s okay and I still love you.”

He pulled me into a hug. “So that is why you have been so distant?” I could hear the relief in his voice.

I hugged him back. “Yes, I was scared about what I overheard, but Alex helped me understand that everything is okay and that I love you and trust you.”

Jason kissed me passionately. “That is a relief; you’ve had me worried. Now we need to get home to Harrison and you need to get some blood in you.” We continued home hand in hand.
