Chapter 6
Duncan stopped sitting with us at lunch and went back to sitting with his other friends. Our relationship consisted of text conversations and secret meetings. After dinner a few nights a week I would go for a “walk.” Which was me meeting up with Duncan. When this first started Trey and Ace wanted to go with for my protection. Thankfully Aaron vouched for my ability to protect myself and Grandpa Harrison sided with him. I got to go out free from bodyguards and disapproving eyes.
Our meetings began to get more frequent and some nights I snuck out to meet him. We loved each other, but I was still afraid to make our relationship known to everyone.
After dinner some Friday night I met him at the pond to talk. We were holding hands and walking.
“So anything new happen today in the world of Princess Alice?” Duncan asked.
“No, I haven’t had anyone attack me since, well, I talked with the rebellion.”
“Have you decided yet?”
“No, I have been trying to take things one step at a time.”
“Stay with me.” he said pulling me into an embrace. Right then a portal opened and three guys came out.
“Run, Duncan.” I said pulling out of his embrace and putting myself between him and the portal.
“I won’t leave you.”
“Don’t be stupid and go. We will talk later!”
“I can help I have been working on my hand on hand combat.” he protested as I began pushing him further away down the path, but we ran into the end of a barrier. “Crap!” I sighed and shook my head. “You don’t get it! Magic is the only combat that matters here. Human power isn’t enough!” I was angry. I turned my back to him to face the enemy at hand.
“Let me help you.” my demon started her pleas. I ignored her.
“Just stay behind me.” I said as one was coming from the left. I levitated him in the air and threw him away. Next two came, one on each side, with swords. I felt a boiling in my blood, and my blood lust was trying to escape. I shifted my right arm into a blade and levitated the other in the air out of reach. I lost track of the third.
“Surrender yourself or this pathetic human dies.” The third guy said. I peered over for a brief moment to notice he had a knife up to Duncan’s throat. I moved the guy I was levitating into the other and I levitated myself up out of reach.
“You must promise if I go with you, he will leave unharmed.”
“A worthless brat like him? Are you seriously willing to trade yourself for him?”
“Promise me.”
“Don’t do it!” Duncan yelled, such a cliché.
“Fine.”
I levitated down and let the two men grab me and put handcuffs that cancel out magic on me. “What the hell is wrong with you?” my demon was screaming at me.
“You are so stupid. Did you really think I could leave this human alive? He has seen way too much.” he showed his fangs He was a vampire. He bit Duncan and began sucking I tried my hardest to break free and use my magic, but I wasn’t strong enough.
“Let me help you. I can save him.” My demon for once was right. With her extra boost I could over power the cuffs.
I let her do her thing, but not take over. I was trying my hardest to stay in control. Flames came pouring out of my body and the cuffs melted off of me. The two guys holding me went flying. The guy sucking on Duncan stopped and dropped him when I combusted into flames and began to run at me. I quickly levitated him and the other two into one place and put a fire around them. I levitated up in the air to look over them.
“Open a portal and leave now.” I ordered. I had a fire ball in my hand as I glared at them.
“Why would we do that?” the vampire said. He was obviously the leader of the group.
“Have you ever heard of royals having the Golden Eyes?” The fire in my hand was growing. “I can only hold it back for so long.” I said gritting my teeth. Which it wasn’t a lie. The demon was yelling at me to kill them and was pushing hard to take over me completely. Good thing the growing fire in my hand scared them. They opened a portal and left.
As soon as they did the fire was extinguished, the grass went back to normal and I dropped to the ground and ran over to Duncan. I pulled him into my lap to see that he was healing; he was turning into a vampire. My energy was draining and it was late. My demon was retreating on me, refusing to help me anymore because I spoiled her fun. I passed out on top of Duncan.
