Chapter 4
When I feel asleep I was overtaken by a strange dream. I was dreaming I was in a ballroom full of people. I was in a white flowing dress. I couldn’t see any faces in the sea of people. Just dark figures with blurred faces. I began pushing through the crowd to find something familiar or something of importance. I found Ace and he grabbed my hand and kissed it. Next thing I knew soft music was playing and my right hand was pressed against his right hand. We were going around in a circle. Doing a dance from back home. Next thing, I knew someone else pulled me into him and my dress turned pink. It was Duncan. The music shifted and we began to ballroom dance and he twirled me around the dance floor some. He then twirled me out with one of our hands was still connected. He faded into dust in front of my eyes. I then felt two taps on my shoulders. My dress darkened into a red. I turned my head to see and it was Ace and Trey. They began to ballroom dancing with me and taking turns. They twirled me around a bit here and there. In the middle of the song one of them disappeared and the other pulled me in close and kissed me. At that moment the music started getting dissonance and then out of tune. The floor started to crumble from underneath me and I fell into a hole.
As I fell Aunt Nikki and Uncle Alex handed me an umbrella from the left. I took it and my fall slowed down a little bit. Then a little further down Grandma Christina and Grandpa Harrison did the same but from the right of me. Then I saw Aaron and Rachel from the left and they hooked the umbrella to my arm. Lastly I saw Ace and Trey on my right and they did the same as Aaron and Rachel. I continued to slow down until the last umbrella. After a little bit more of falling the umbrellas turned into a parachute. Then my mother came from out of nowhere and shot fire from her mouth. She burned the parachute. I began to fall faster and faster. When I hit the ground in my dream, my body jolted and I hit my head on the headboard of my bed and was in tears. What the heck did it all mean? I didn’t know.
There was a knock on my door. “Are you alright?” I heard from outside the door. I wiped my tears and answered the door. It was Trey.
“Yes, I just had a bad dream is all.” I replied about to shut the door.
“Was it about Duncan?” he asked as he invited himself into my room. “You know you got me in trouble with Ace because I let you go home alone.”
“I don’t really care.” I said as I walked back to my bed and sat down. He grabbed the chair from my desk and sat down across from me.
“The dream wasn’t about Duncan was it?” He said and then closed his eyes.
“Get out of my head you asshole!” I could feel him beginning to dig into my mind.
“Hmmm very interesting... you should listen to your dream. It tells the truth.” he said as he ruffled my hair. I swatted his hand off me.
“Go to your own room, I’m fine!”
“Keep telling yourself that little Ostrich. One day you will see the Eagle.” He said with a wink.
“What?” I asked as he got up and began walking to the door.
“I’m shocked, I thought you were the bookworm that researched everything. If you don’t get it, don’t worry about it.”
I shook my head and pushed his weird statement out of my head. “Why did you even knock on my door asking if I am alright? Shouldn’t you be in bed.”
“It is called going to be bathroom. Your door is near by and I heard a thud come from your room as I was about to head back to my room. I thought I would be nice, I do that every now and again.” he said rudely.
“I’m sorry, I am just...” I paused. “I didn’t mean to take things out on you. I know you have the best intentions. I-I’m just confused as to where to go from here.”
He sighed and walked back to sit down in the chair. “Seeing an Ostrich in a dream means you are in denial and an Eagle symbolizes the truth. You need to see the truth before you will know where to go from here. You just need to know the whole situation and pick what you feel is right.”
“Then what is the truth? You can see the future, where do I go?”
He shook his head and got up again. “Your future is always changing and is not set in stone yet. It is up to you to decide, not for me to tell you. Oh! But I can help you and tell you if you are being irrational. I mean you have a tendency to be a little emotional in your mind and all, but I am sure I could help you if you talk everything out with...”
I cut him off. “Get out!”
“There you go being irrational.” he said with a smirk. I stood up and began pushing him towards the door. “And forceful too. I think you might have an anger problem.”
“I am only this angry around you! You always say the stupidest things that make me want to... ugh!”
He wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me into him. “Well excuse me Princess for having a little fun. I like your reactions, what can I say?”
“I-I... just stop it! If you support me you would stop making me so angry!”
He pulled me into a kiss. I couldn’t help, but to just take it. Once he pulled away I caught a genuine smile on his face for the first time. “Let’s be honest, if I didn’t, would you even notice me?”
I quickly pulled away just realizing what was happening. “Just go. I-I can’t do this! You are a walking contradiction! You say I belong with Ace and yet you kiss me.”
He walked towards the door and stopped at the door frame. He had a look of defeat. “Because as I said earlier, Tweedle Dum is an asshole. Goodnight Princess.”
He closed the door behind him. Duncan is a cheater, Ace is afraid to open up to me and Trey full of unfiltered passion and contradictions. Those are my paths. Trey and Ace would lead me back home, and Duncan would keep me here. I sat back down on my bed and laid there. I decided tomorrow I would confront Duncan about his cheating and see where the conversation goes. It is not a school day, but we had a date planned for tomorrow night.
