The Otherside: Alice: Tough Decisions (Book 6)

Chapter 13

The rest of the school year flew on from there. And before I knew it, it was time to meet with Jay. We got Trey dressed up the same as Ace, except with a black vest’ easier to tell them apart that way.

Once we got there and in the tavern, Ace had to go to the bathroom so Trey and I went ahead and began searching for Jay. Trey did a double take from a distance; she was sitting at a booth. He look at me and then at her.

“Is she your missing triplet?”

I sighed. “Come on.” I said dragging Trey through the crowd over to her.

“Ace! Alice!” she called out happily.

“No...” Trey covered my mouth before I could correct her that he was not Ace.

“Are you two finally together?” she whispered loudly and slightly drunk.

Trey pulled me into an embrace. “We have kissed a few times if that is what pirates classify as together.”

I tried to push away from him as I yelled “Cut it out, Trey!”

Ace came over right about that time and hit Trey over the back of the head. “Idiot! leave her alone!”

“I was just joking around.” he said while letting go of me. I realized my heart was beating fast. Did he really not mean it?

Captain Jay looked dumbfounded. Like she was debating if she had drank too much and she was seeing double or not. Which isn’t unlikely with her normal alcohol consumption.

“Please excuse my brother. He was raised in the jungle by monkeys.” Ace said trying to lighten the mood and get that weird look off of Jay’s face.

“You are twins?” she asked gathering her brain.

“Isn’t it a little early to be getting this drunk?” I said while taking her drink away.

“I am not drunk, barely even buzzed.” she said with a pout. That lasted for a moment and then she moved on. “So, I have good news and bad news for you.”

We all piled into the booth with her. I sat beside her.

“I have commandeered a ship, but...”

“No crew?” I asked trying to finish her sentence.

She shook her head. “No, only three members. They are back on the ship.”

“Well that’s better than nothing I guess.” Ace said reassuringly.

Trey shook his head. “How are we going to do this? Do we have a battle plan?”

“All I know is how to find her.” She pulled out a strange black compass.

“It directs you to what you want most.”

“So there is magic in this world?” I asked confused.

“Only if you know where to find it.” she said back with a smirk.

“Let me see that.” Trey said while taking it from her and opened it. I could not see where it was pointing but by the looks on Jay’s and Ace’s faces I was guess my direction.

“I just want the rum.” He said nervously while grabbing the rum in front of me that I took from Jay. While he took the rum I took the compass from him.

I looked down and then swiftly shut it. The needle was moving back and forth between Ace and Trey. I tried to shut it before they all saw, but Jay saw it and smirked. I handed it back to her.

“Let’s work on a battle plan after we see the ship and crew we are working with.” I said changing the subject off of the compass and we did just that.
