Chapter 65
Chapter 65
At first, Julian Ranford didn’t think too much about it. He felt that Marco Ranford would always be on standby, hence Marco would be able to tend to Alexandra Doherty immediately if she needed anything.
Alexandra wiped her tears away when she heard Julian call her.
She forced a smile. When she turned to look at him, she had a beautiful and coy smile on her face. “Mr. Ranford”
“You…” The way she smiled made him feel suffocated. “Why are you crying?”
“Oh… I messed up the magic performance. I feel so embarrassed. I’ve let William Jolston and Mr. McFadden down. I don’t know how I should explain myself when I return.”
Julian could tell she was lying.
However, he was at a loss for words.
At this moment, Marco arrived with Alexandra’s breakfast.
As soon as he entered, he went straight to Alexandra’s bed. “Mrs. Ranford, the CEO called me as soon as he saw your message. Have it while it’s
warm!”
Julian was speechless.
Alexandra gave Marco a smile and took the breakfast from him.
She placed them on the table and picked up her phone again. She said, “Marco, I just realized I saved your number. Let’s contact via WhatsApp in the future. It’ll be easier this way.”
Marco was thunderstruck..
What was going on?
Marco stole a glance at his CEO and saw that Julian seemed a little ashamed and embarrassed. Marco was confused.
Alexandra had already opened the WhatsApp interface. “Should I scan your QR code, or do you wanna scan mine?”
Marco hurriedly took out his phone. “I’ll scan yours, Mrs. Ranford.”
Alexandra smiled as she showed her QR code.
After adding him, she changed Marco’s contact name and said, “If I knew it was you, I would have added you long ago. If I need to look for Mr. Ranford in the future, I’ll send you a WhatsApp message.
Marco glanced at his CEO again, not knowing how to answer. He could only nod numbly. “Okay…”
Alexandra did not look at Julian this entire time. Then she put down her phone and picked up the small carton of milk. “Mr. Ranford, are you needed at the company? You can go do your business. I’ll return home after I’m finished with breakfast, then I’ll head to school,” Alexandra said.
Her tone sounded normal, but Julian seemed to sense the “politeness” in her words and smile.
She was trying to distance herself from him.
But she was still smiling just like before, but she was trying to make herself seem like she did not care about him.
Julian said, “Don’t go to school today. Take a leave.”
Alexandra said, “I have to. I still have to apologize to Mr. McFadden, I wasn’t present for the prize presentation.”
Julian said, “I’ve explained your circumstances to them. You should head home and rest.”
Alexandra shook her head. “Don’t worry about me. I know what I’m doing. I’ve taken up much of Mr. Ranford’s time, You should go.”
It was as if she had suddenly become much more sensible and was no longer the naive little girl who liked to squabble with him.
Then, she lowered her head to drink her milk and stopped talking.
Marco, being the quick–witted person he was, could tell what was wrong.
It seemed Mrs.. Ranford was upset.
And she cared a lot about the CEO.
It was to be expected. They got along so well every day, but in the end, she realized that Julian’s phone number belonged to someone else.
What would she think?
Julian also looked somewhat guilty and helpless. Marco tsk tsked.
Marco thought that his CEO deserved it.
Marco looked at this scene. His heart ached for Alexandra, but at the same time, he felt inexplicably joyous. The good thing was that the CEO’s heart of

stone had finally softened.
Marco thought the CEO should have listened to his advice back then.
Julian picked up his coat on the chair and said to Alexandra, “Then you should rest well for a while. Last night, the doctor said that you still need some more checkups.”
Alexandra nodded without looking at him. “Got it, Mr. Ranford.”
“Scoundrel! I’m not talking to you ever again!” she swore secretly.
“Get out of here! Hmph!” she screamed internally.
Julian and Marco left afterward. Julian’s face darkened as soon as they stepped out of the ward.
Marco consciously distanced himself from Julian.
Marco wanted to gloat, but he didn’t dare do it openly.
It was a pity that Marco shipped the two. This couple was one full of misfortunes.
Julian sat in the car, still wondering why Alexandra had suddenly become so strange.
Could it be because she realized that the phone number she saved was not his?
Marco was about to start the car when Julian asked, “Do you think that Alexandra Doherty was acting a little weird earlier?”
Marco was speechless.
He cleared his throat and said to Julian, “CEO, I think Mrs.. Ranford has just woken up and is grumpy.”
“She does seem a little upset.”
“Why wouldn’t she be?” Marco thought.
For his ship to sail, Marco was prepared to do anything at all costs. He braced himself and turned around. “CEO, I think… you should coax Mrs.. Ranford.”
“Why should I?”
“She… I was right. Mrs. Ranford found out that the phone number was mine. She thought you were the other party every time she sent a message with hopes of sharing with you about her life. Now that she suddenly found out that the person was your assistant… Think about how she feels.” Marco felt his CEO was good in every way, but he was dense when it came to relationships.
Julian gave it a serious thought. Then he said, “I can’t think of anything”
Marco was dumbstruck. “Alright, from the perspective of a bystander, Mrs.. Ranford is sad because she knows that you can’t even bear to give her your phone number.”
“It’s not that… Why is she upset? Does this have anything to do with her not having my number?” Julian asked.
“Of course it’s related. Take you and Mr. Walters for example. You two are very good friends. One day, you suddenly realized Mr. Walters didn’t give you his private number. And his assistant is usually the one who converses with you….”
“That’s absurd!
“Isn’t that right? You’re upset too. You’ll also feel little. That’s how Mrs… Ranford feels. CEO, you know that you care about her…
“Who cares about her?” Julian blurted out in an instant. He was quick to deny it.
Marco rolled his eyes inwardly. He did not believe Julian’s words at all. Marco was aware that Julian had fallen out with Colin McFadden for the sake of Mrs. Ranford, Julian was also not being his usual self by attending the welcoming party.
Also, when he found the young madam last night, he didn’t know who was so anxious that they wanted to blow up the storage room.
Of course, Marco did not dare to say that.
Marco cherished his life, so he didn’t expose Julian.
Marco said, “Alright, you don’t. It’s Mrs… Ranford who cares about you, okay?”
“Does she? Why does she upset me every single day, then?” Julian did not understand.
Marco chuckled and explained, “It’s because you treat her well that she dares to lose her temper. Think about it, who would dare to lose their temper in front of you? Isn’t it because you’ve spoiled her?”
“I didn’t spoil her.”
“Alright, since you won’t admit it, then let’s leave it at that. If Mrs. Ranford is upset, so be it! The two of you are purely working partners anyway. Alexandra Doherty will be leaving the Ranford family and Highclere City after you’ve found Ace Fulton and Mr. Ranford’s illness is cured. At that time, you will be able to marry any socialite you see fit. Who cares about the girl from the countryside? Am I right to say that?”
Julian glanced at him coldly.
