The Omnipotent Mrs. Ranford By Darlene Wright

Chapter 58

Chapter 58

Their seats were in the front row, near the corner, so Martha could basically hear everything clearly from the backstage entrance.

She looked coldly at William, who was smiling so brightly at Alexandra. He had never given her such a smile.

For a moment, she hated Alexandra to the core.

“Magic tricks?” she said inwardly.

Then, she curled her red lips and turned around to leave.

Alexandra followed William out of the assembly hall and got into a storage room backstage.

The storage room was not spacious, with many props and extra tables and chairs inside.

William walked to the balcony. Alexandra followed and saw a big box half the height of a person covered by a red cloth.

William lifted the red cloth on the box. It turned out to be a glass–like single bed with a curved glass lid on it. It was transparent and small, probably enough for a girl like Alexandra to lie on.

“You just lie here when the time comes. I’ll do the magic trick. You don’t have to do anything. In the end, you just have to get up from the glass bed and finish the curtain call with me,” William explained carefully.

“Alright.” Alexandra agreed, thinking it was pretty easy.

“Well, I’ll knock on the right side of the lid three times when I need you to open your eyes. Listen to my code.”

“Alright, no problem.”

Alexandra’s curiosity was piqued. She began to size up the novel item in front of her.

耳

She saw a golden handle the length of a finger sticking up where the glass lid joined the base of the bed.

She pointed at it and asked, “What’s this?”

“It’s the switch,” replied William.

He drew a golden bolt the length of a finger outside the lid. The curved glass lid was opened.

It turned out to be a switch that could be controlled inside and out. The handle inside was connected to the handle outside.

The lid could be opened from the inside or the outside.

He continued, “When I give you the code, draw the inside bolt, and you can come out.”

Alexandra held onto the glass lid and followed his explanation. She fiddled with the switch of the glass cabinet and nodded. “Well, I feel like I’m playing dead”

William could not help but laugh. He closed the lid and bolted it. “Don’t say that. You’re playing a princess. A princess who woke up from her sleep because of the prince’s rescue.”

Alexandra smiled. She did not believe in stories about princes and princesses.

William continued, “Alright, let’s go out first. I still have to participate in the rehearsal. I’ll tell you the time of the show later. Just come backstage and change your clothes in advance. Oh, right, I can help you find a prop costume.”

“No need for that. I’ve brought clothes with me. I’ll just wear what I brought.”

“Alright. What after the magic show will be Kelly’s piano performance. You still have time to prepare for the award.”

“Got it.”

Since William had almost mastered the main plot of the magic trick and Alexandra did not need to make any preparations, they left the storage room

after explaining the process.

As soon as they left, Martha walked out behind a screen in the storage room.

She walked to the props and lifted the red cloth…

In the CEO’s office of the Ranford Tower.

Julian was handling documents. Marco glanced at his watch. “Mr. Ranford, it’s about time to leave for the University of Highclere.”

“Okay, got it.”

Marco added, “Mr. Ranford, in the past, when Mr. McFadden invited you to participate in various activities in the school, you always made excuses to refuse. Why are you so strange this year?”

Julian glanced at him. “Do I need to explain my behavior to you?”

“No, no, no! There’s no need for that.” Marco hurriedly waved his hand and asked slyly, “Is it because Mrs.. Ranford is there that you want to see her? I’ve already seen the program list for the welcoming party. Mrs.. Ranford is the guest to present the award.”

“Marco, I’m kind of missing Frank.”

“Oh, Mr. Ranford, I was wrong. I won’t say it anymore.” Marco immediately shivered at the thought of being dispatched to the remote rural area and hurriedly begged for mercy.

He complained inwardly, “The couple was difficult to deal with.”

Julian stood up, left his desk, straightened his tie, and said to Marco, “book a flight to Sheffield on Friday night for me. Send more people to follow me, but don’t make a scene.”

Julian decided to go out alone. Marco naturally knew that it was not a small matter. He asked, “Mr. Ranford, is there any news from Frank?”

“I’m not sure. I’ll go over and take a look.”

“Alright, I’ll make the arrangements.” Marco’s expression became more serious.

The welcoming party had yet to begin. Alexandra was strolling along the corridor with a cup of coffee in her hand.

As she was strolling, she saw a group of people walking over. The two men in the middle looked a little familiar.

Just as she was staring, they approached.

It was Julian and Carson!

“Why did they show up near the assembly hall together?” She wondered.

Julian had noticed Alexandra a long time ago. It was strange.

No matter where he saw her, he would always recognize her at first glance.

Alexandra turned around and pretended not to see them.  S~ᴇaʀᴄh the FɪndNøvel.ɴet website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

Julian knew what she was thinking, so he walked forward without looking sideways.

Unexpectedly, Carson had sharp eyes and stopped his steps. “Is it Alexandra?”

Alexandra wanted to run away immediately.

She quickly adjusted her expression and turned around. She pretended to be surprised. “Ah! Carson, you’re here to watch the shows too? What a

coincidence!”

She did not look at Julian the entire time, afraid that others would find out they knew each other.

Carson smiled. Although Emery only brought Alexandra home once, he had a good impression of her.

He said, “Yes, what a coincidence! I’m always looking forward to your visit to my family again.”

“Sure, Carson!” Alexandra held the coffee and deliberately turned her face away from Julian. “Then I’ll get back to work. See you later!”

After saying that, she turned around and ran away.

Julian looked at her fleeing back and shook his head.

Behind him, Marco cleared his throat and wanted to say something, but he was stopped by Julian’s gaze.

Just as they were about to go to the VIP lounge under the guidance of the staff, Kelly, who had just finished applying her makeup, came out of the dressing room.

She immediately saw Carson and Julian..

Kelly was secretly overjoyed. With a gentle expression, she walked forward, “Mr. Walters, are you here to attend the welcoming party too?”

Julian had some impression of this girl. He had seen her at the opening ceremony. He looked at Carson meaningfully and took a step back.

“Carson, you guys chat. I’ll leave first.”

Julian and Marco left for the lounge.

While Carson and Kelly were left in the corridor.

Carson had been through a lot in the business world and associated with many people. Kelly’s slightly shy and sparkling eyes revealed all her thoughts.

He replied politely, “Mr. McFadden invited me kindly, so I came over. Coincidentally, I have a friend with me.”

“Thank you for your attending. Does Emery know that you’re here?”

“I didn’t tell her.”

“Do you want me to inform her? I can help her get an audience seat.”
