Chapter 11
Chapter 11
The next morning. Alexandra received a phone call from Julian, who told her that he wanted her to go with him to get their marriage license.
Alexandra readily agreed and arranged a time to meet with Julian.
They would meet at two o’clock in the afternoon.
In the morning. Alexandra had requested the hotel service to dry–clean Julian’s suit. Before two o’clock, she took a taxi to the City Hall of Highclere City by herself.
Alexandra sat on a bench and waited for Julian.
At the same time, she watched the newlyweds who came to get their marriage licenses.
They were all smiles as they held each other’s hands. Their eyes were full of love and happiness when they looked at each other.
Alexandra felt a liule envious and melancholic.
Being just a 20–year–old girl, she naturally hoped that she would have a beautiful and magnificent love story. However….
She comforted herself by saying that it was all fake anyway.
After a while, a staff member came to find her. The staff member said he would lead her to take a picture.
By the time Alexandra arrived at the room, Julian had already changed into a white shirt. He was waiting for her.
In an instant, Alexander understood that Julian was a high–profile figure in Highclere City and that getting their marriage license was, of course, a secret affair.
They were enjoying VIP treatment.
Alexandra carried a bag that had the suit. Her long hair was draped over her shoulders, and she wore a white dress.
Facing the man she was about to get the marriage license with, Alexandra’s heart could not help but beat rapidly.
Marco walked over and took the bag from her hand, saying, “Ms. Doherty, hurry up. The CEO has to go back for a meeting
later.”
Alexandra calmed herself down and smiled as she walked toward Julian.
“I’m ready, Mr. Ranford, Alexandra said.
Julian looked at Alexandra’s seemingly nervous expression and comforted her, saying, “Don’t be nervous.
Alexandra was a little surprised. She wondered how Julian knew that she was nervous.
However, Alexandra did indeed feel less nervous upon hearing those three words from Julian.
It only took five minutes to take wedding photos. After taking the photos, both of them sat on the chairs.
They did not sit too close to each other. Alexandra forced a smile.
Then, as Marco had said, Julian had to attend a meeting. Hence, Julian left after taking the photos.
After obtaining the marriage license, Alexandra did not see Julian until the day of the wedding.
Getting married was like living a dream.
Alexandra had never imagined that she would get married at such a young age, especially to a man she had only met a few times
The day before her wedding. Alexandra went to the Doherty family’s house.
Peter and his wife prepared a bedroom for Alexandra as her bridal chamber.
The next morning, the groom would come to carry the bride over the threshold.
At night, Alexandra lay alone in a bed that did not belong to her and in a home that also did not belong to her. For the first time since arriving in Highclere City, she felt very lonely.
Even when she was seriously ill and blind three years ago, she had never felt so lonely.
She missed the person who had stayed by her side when she was seriously ill. Although she did not know what he looked like and had even forgotten his voice, she knew that during her darkest days, there was someone who stayed with her through thick and thin.
She did not know where he was
On the night before her wedding. Alexandra dreamt of that person again.
That person would help her comb her hair and make her fried catfish, which was her favorite dish.
He would put a handful of daisies he picked from the field in her embrace and lie to her that they were roses…
The next day. Alexandra was woken up very early by Margot since the makeup artist had already arrived.
The makeup artist was hired by the Ranford family. She brought the wedding dress with her before she came there.
As Margot looked at the haute couture wedding dress of a world–famous brand, she could not help but touch it a few more
times.
Alexandra sat in front of the dressing table. She stayed silent as she waited for the makeup artist to come and do her bridal makeup.
She wore a white veil and a pearl crown.
When Alexandra was dressed and ready, even Margot and the maid Anna, who always looked down on her, could not help but be amazed by her beauty.
This bride was just too beautiful.
Alexandra also never imagined that she would look so beautiful in the bridal makeup.
In that instant, she liked herself even more.
Even Margot had to inwardly admit that Veronica might not be as beautiful as Alexandra if she were to wear the same wedding dress.
Women could be jealous of other women regardless of age and status.
Julian was alone when he came to the Doherty family’s home to pick up the bride.
To put it frankly, this wedding was not glorious.
The Ranford family did not intend to hold a grand wedding, so they did not make a great show of it.
There were also no media reporters chasing and blocking them.
Julian wore a black haute couture suit with a burgundy striped tie, which accentuated his slender figure and exuded a stro
presence.
Julian walked alone with the maid toward the bridal chamber where Alexandra was waiting. When he pushed open the door. of the bridal chamber, his heart fluttered slightly.
He saw Alexandra, the girl who had asked him for help and agreed to marry him.
Alexandra sat alone on the bed covered with red–silk fabric. Her face was covered with a white veil.
When she saw Julian coming in, she looked at him through the white veil.
Julian could not see her expression clearly.
But through the white veil, he seemed to have caught a glimpse of a faint smile at the corner of Alexandra’s mouth.
It seemed like a mixture of nervousness and sudden relaxation.
In the eyes of Julian, he felt a twinge in his heart.
The true daughter of the Doherty family was getting married, yet she did not have any friends by her side.
Instead, she sat alone in her bridal chamber, waiting for Julian to come and take her away as his bride.
“Mr. Ranford, am I pretty today?” Alexandra asked with the veil covering her face.
“Yes,” Julian said in a low voice as he smiled. “You are pretty.”
“You are very handsome, too, Alexandra said. You are the most handsome guy in Highclere City!”
Alexandra was very generous with her praise.
Julian chuckled.
At this moment, both Peter and Margot came in.
Perhaps feeling a little embarrassed by the atmosphere, the couple started to take small talk. “Oh, Mr. Ranford, we know you don’t want to make a big deal out of it. So, we didn’t invite any guests over to our house. Alexandra, hurry up and put on your shoes by yourself. Don’t keep Mr. Ranford waiting!”
Alexandra was taken aback by what was said.
As Alexandra had never been married before and had not attended a wedding ceremony, she was a linle baffled.
She tilted her head slightly and saw a red shoebox placed by the bed.
Alexandra leaned over and opened the shoebox to reveal a pair of red high–heeled shoes inside.
She took them out and wanted to put them on by herself.
As soon as she took out the shoes, they were snatched away from her.
Alexandra as well as Peter and his wife were all taken aback.
Julian squatted down and gently picked up Alexandra’s foot. Then, he put on the wedding shoe on her left foot.
Alexandra had never had such intimate interaction with a man before.
Her ankle was held by Julian, and it tickled a bit, so she instinctively wanted to run away.
However, Julian seemed to have noticed. He raised his head and glanced at Alexandra.

This one look made her blush, and her heart started beating faster. She didn’t even dare to move,
Julian lowered his head and took out the other shoe from the box. Then, he helped Alexandra put it on her foot.
Margot looked at this scene with unexpected surprise, but deep down, she felt a great sense of disdain. She smiled and said, “Mr. Ranford is really considerate. We, as parents, are relieved now that Alexandra is married to you.”
L….
“Yeah, that’s right!” Peter quickly echoed too. “Alexandra is really lucky!”
Julian pretended not to hear the insincere tone and flattery in their words. He cracked a smile before standing up.
Seeing Julian Manding up like that, Margot rolled her eyes, Anna, who was behind her, also secretly chuckled.
In Highclere City, it was customary for the groom to carry the bride over the threshold.
It was obvious that Julian did not want to carry Alexandra.
Alexandra was about to climb off the bed to try on the shoes and see if they were comfortable, but Anna quickly stepped forward to help her. “Oh, my!” Anna said. “Ms. Alexandra, you shouldn’t get off the bed by yourself!”
Alexandra looked at Anna in confusion.
Julian had not attended any friend’s wedding after returning to the country, so he did not know why the maid said that.
“Mr. Ranford, you may not be familiar with the customs here in Highclere City, but it is deemed improper if the bride isn’t carried by the groom over the threshold, Margot said, feigning concern as she walked over.
