The Omega Best Friend

Chapter 61

Chapter 61

Claws out

“These forests are full of all sorts of animals. You can’t be sure it was the beast,” Ivan said.

“But look at-”

“You can’t be sure, omega. You’re not getting out of this that easily.”

“Frankly I don’t feel safe,” Leiah said straightening her spine.

“Yeah Ivan, we should be careful.”

“Enough. We were given orders and we’re going to follow through. If the beast comes through here we’ll take care of it.”

“Don’t be cocky Ivan. I’ve come against it and it’s incredibly powerful.”

“You’re a beta. I’m an alpha. See the difference?”

I frowned. Ivan’s judgment was clouded by his inflated ego and it could put the rest of us in danger. I hoped Ryan would push the issue but he nodded and walked out of the hanging vine door.

“Five hours,” Ivan reminded us.

“Dick,” Leiah muttered.

“Yeah.” Finally, we could agree on something.

Minutes later I had my boots and rubber gloves on trying to rake up the leaves but there was too much mud to do it quickly. I wasn’t thrilled about cleaning the animal remains. They terrified me reminding me that this was a dangerous animal’s hangout too.

Leiah hadn’t stopped groaning she barely knew how to hold a rake. I tried to hold in my laugh but I

was unsuccessful.

“You think this is funny. Wait until we get out of here cunt.”

“Just when I was thinking of helping you,” I sighed.

“Why would you do that? The only reason you came here was to steal Alex from me.”

That’s not true.” I stopped and stared at her.

Leiah glared at me. I had feelings for Alex, strong ones but they don’t compare to what I feel for Kade.

“I’ve known him since we were kids. I liked him for a while but I don’t anymore, happy?”

“No. You still stole Kade from Harlow.”

“Did you not hear about her mate mark disannearing Kade and I are fated mates Tr

didn’t ask for this!

1/5

Sure I wanted a mate but I didn’t pick him out of a hat”

Leiah rolled her eyes and slammed her rake into the ground.

“Watch me.” I said.

“You don’t have to help me,” she muttered.

Still, she mimicked my motions and eventually got the hang of it

“Harlow said it wasn’t true about her mark disappearing. She said Kade got rid of it because of you.”

“That’s not true. Kade said it vanished after he recognized me as his mate.”

“I didn’t want you near my man and neither did she. Alpha Females don’t like challenges.”

“Even challenges from their own friends?” I asked thinking of Eva.

“Despite battle season, Harlow shouldn’t have… killed Eva. She’s always been jealous of Eva’s strength. I know my ability. If I worked hard I could do great things but Harlow worked hard and she couldn’t match Eva’s strength. She was born with incredible strength.”

“You think killing Eva was about jealousy?”

Leiah nodded then her face recoiled. “It stinks here.”

“You’re telling me,” I mumbled.

Hours went by without much said between us. That short conversation was the most nonthreatening verbal exchange we had since we met.

“Hasn’t it been five hours yet?” Leiah wiped the sweat off her brow.

“I doubt it.”

Leiah marched to the vine door. She pushed it open and gasped.

-Those pigs! They left us.”

I dropped the rake and fumed. I should have known they wouldn’t take their jobs seriously.

“Let’s get out of here,” she said.

“They’ll know we left.”

“We’ll do it tomorrow. It’s hot and it stinks here.”

“You’re right.” I dropped the rake.

A meaty arm yanked my arm backwards sending me into the mud. I stared up at Baxter’s amused face.

“I wouldn’t move if I were you omega,” he said.

“What are you-“Leiah gasped as the blond wolf who attacked me last night wrapped his arm around her neck and pinned her to his body. “You’ll lose this arm I swear,” Leiah growled.

connected with mine and he smirked.

Calm down Leiah, I’m here for her.” Harlow’s cool voice came from behind me.

“Don’t move omega. We know you like illegal blows.” Baxter slammed his boot on my hand. I bit my tongue to contain the scream.

“Harlow, where have you been?” Leiah demanded.

“So you could lecture me about what happened with Eva? I don’t have the time. I’m the first Alpha Female participating in battle season for years.”

My hand burned under Baxter’s foot. I sunk my nails into his ankle but he backed out a laughed. instead.

“You never stop, do you?”

couldn’t get his meaty leg to move. Tears stung my eyes. I must have broken bones in that hand.

“Leave her alone,” Leiah yelled.

The blond wolf tightened his hold on her neck and she winced.

“Wow, Gabbie. You stole my man and my best friend. Is there anything the little omega can’t do?”

“I haven’t done anything wrong? Kade’s my fated mate,” I said through the tears

“You should have rejected him. You should have known your place. You have no place in the life of an Alpha.” She lowered her body to my level and smiled.

“What do you want?” I rasped.

“For

you to disappear.” She turned to the blond wolf. Leo, make sure that one doesn’t move until we’re out of sight and scent.”

Leo nodded. He smirked at me once more. This was revenge for what Kade did to him yesterday.

Baxter finally removed his foot from my hands. I cradled my wrist and shot Baxter daggers. He picked me off the ground using my arm.

“This is going to be fun. It’s going to be hard to fight without your hands.”

“I’ve still got my legs and they can do much more damage.

‘ll have fun destroying that pretty little mouth.”

“Move out Baxter,” Harlow ordered.

I stared at Leiah. She was just as helpless as me. She mouthed the word ‘sorry‘. I nodded. Baxter shoved

“Don’t try anything funny,” Baxter said.

“You rotten wolf!”

Baxter wrapped his hand around my throat and squeezed.

“I bet you like them rotten.”

“Gross.”

“Sanders is as rotten as they come.”

“Focus Baxter!” Harlow spat.

“You said I could have fun with her,” he pouted.  Sᴇaʀch Thᴇ FindNʘᴠᴇl.nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“You can but keep in mind our plan can come undone at any moment. Either Kade or Alex could come running.

Baxter released me and grumbled something inaudible. He shoved me forward. My hand throbbed. I wasn’t like them I didn’t have fast healing. Would it matter if she was going to kill me?

Aren’t you scared of being punished? You don’t have battle season to use an excuse.”

She flipped her white hair over her shoulder but she didn’t stop to look at me as she spoke.

-No

one cares about a wolfless.”

“Kade does! Emery too and Alex as well.” I had parents hiding in the world and I liked to believe they cared if I lived or died.

“A small list of a thousand wolves who wouldn’t care. You’re no superstar.”

“Head Mistress Athena won’t let you get away with it!

“Yes her. I heard she downgraded your punishment. Why would she do that? What do you have against her? Now there’s a hard woman. She could have gone all the way in battle season and become the first Alpha Queen but she chose to run this dump. Pathetic. I’ll handle her.”

Was Harlow scared of anything? I thought.

I heard water crushing against rocks in the distance and my blood chilled. The first place Kade and I were intimate was by the lake shore but we were far from that Spor

“Keep walking. This should be fun,” Harlow said.

If I ran Baxter could shift and catch me. He could do further damage to me. The ground tilted up. I dragged my feet upward. If Leiah didn’t get free and find Kade I won’t survive. What if she doesn’t care to find him? We’re not even friends,

“I didn’t steal Kade, Harlow,” I said firmly.

“I didn’t ask not to have a wolf. I’ve been waiting for it to show up my whole life!”

“Save the sob story. I’m settling the score and that’s final.”

We stopped at the end of a cliff. A vast body of crystal blue water stretched for a few miles, I swallowed. She was going to dump my body in the lake. No one would find me.

“Baxter you can have five minutes with her. I’m guessing that’s all you need to satisfy yourself.”

Baxter licked his lips and advanced slowly.

“We’ll need more than that right omega?”

“Don’t touch me,” I rasped.

“You want it rough? I’ll give it to you rough.”

I ducked and kicked the dirt off the cliff. The water held out its hands for me. I’d rather deal with it than let Baxter violate me. I locked eyes with Harlow the corners of her lip twitched. I gripped my aching wrist and stepped back into thin air. I fell effortlessly. Kade’s face flashed before my eyes Islammed into cold water.
