“Gabriella.”
I cringed. Every time someone called me by my full name it meant something was wrong.
“What?” I turned around to find Alex leaning on the bookshelf.
The library was quiet especially since it was late afternoon. Even the librarian wasn’t in. With classes suspended, there was no need to study, though I wanted to keep myself busy. The Omega dance ceremony was tonight which involved petite skirts, tops barely covering our breasts and old folk songs. Plenty of food as well. A huge bonfire would be lit to welcome battle season.
A day after the ceremony would be a ceremony where the betas would be pre–chosen for their Alphas. A lot of food would be involved as well.
“Shouldn’t you be learning dance steps?” Alex smirked.
I’m not dancing. The older omegas are doing it.”
“You’d look hot in those skirts.”
“We’re all wearing them.” I shifted on the spot. Communicating with him was still weird because of all that happened between us.
“Look Gabbie, I’m sorry. I went overboard but I couldn’t see the girl I loved with the guy I hate with my chest.”
“Kade isn’t a bad guy, Alex.” I fiddled with my fingers.

“You guys could be good friends and have an alliance when you become Alphas I guess.”
“That’s why Leiah is my mate I don’t need to be friends with Kade. For your sake, I’ll try to tone it
down.”
He closed the gap between us. He hesitated before bringing his hands to my cheeks but he did and his warmth travelled down my spine.
“Forgive me?” He brought his face closer to mine.
My breath caught in my throat.
“I do,” I swallowed.
Another inch closer. “Kade doesn’t have to know.”
I swallowed around the lump in my throat. I wiggled out of his hold and kissed his cheek. I wrapped my arms around his torso and buried my face in his chest quickly. I could tell Kade about that. He’d

He squeezed me and kissed my forehead. “I’ll take it, I was too late”

Alex and I walked out of McGregor Castle into the biting wind. Kade said he’d be running the mountain with his betas all day so I would only see him at the ceremony.
“Alex?” I asked recalling words he spoke about my Dad when Kade after I escaped Leiah’s clutches.
“Gabbie?”
Remember what you said about my Dad? Are you going to tell me?”
He let out a shaky breath. “Are you cold?”
“Don’t stall. What do you know?”
“Not much my Dad wouldn’t spill.”

stranger.
Alex’s brows dipped. “Did she know it was you?”
“She did. I called back but she didn’t respond. A man at the pack said they were hiding but I don’t understand from what.”
“Listen, Dad said he got a call from your Dad months ago asking him to send you here for protection.”

Alex lifted his shoulders. “From whatever he’s hiding from?”
“So he’s alive? All this time he’s been hiding?”

“The truth would be nice. I have to get ready for tonight. Emery wants to do my hair.”
“Should I walk you back to the quarters?”
“No, I have some things to get from Kade’s room.”
It’ll be dark by the time I turn around to go to the quarters though there will be a lot of people preparing for the ceremony. I hoped to see Kade but he wasn’t back yet. The room richly held his scent. and I took a moment to breathe him in.
I grabbed my bag and left the Alpha castle. I was wary that Harlow could be anywhere. She killed her best friend she crossed a boundary there who knew what that would unleash in her? Power kills added. power to the killing wolf so she was stronger now than before.
I held my bag close to my body as I left the imposing castles and entered a part with no security lights. The stars were my only aid and even they were obscured by dark clouds. The omega quarters were a few more minutes away. I saw the soft lights in the distance. I couldn’t walk any faster the darkness seemed to be getting darker.
I thought the panting coming from the night was me but when the panting turned to a growl I turned around and landed on my ass. An animal with smooth fur black fur like a panther and eyes like green marble. I crawled backwards slowly. This was the beast.
“Okay… I whispered..
It advanced lowering its head as if getting ready to attack. It had the head and body of a wolf but its unusual fur told me it had to be mixed with something. It stared at me as if I was a curiosity to it. I wondered how detached it was from its human form.
I slowly rose to my feet and it watched every limb move. Maybe it won’t hurt me.
It snapped its jaw at me and leapt forward. I ducked out of its way and instinctively kicked its nail. The wolf howled into the woods and stumbled. It turned around and glared at me. Its eyes went from green to hellish red.
“I should have done that.”
I was glued to the spot. It turned around and ran forward passing the omega quarters.
-Crap.”
The wolf disappeared but I had another problem. I couldn’t stop myself from that illegal blow this time. It saved my life but if I kept doing it I would be kicked out of the school definitely.
