Chapter 56
Chapter 56
Gabbie POV
“We have to go.
Kade appeared as I picked up the teacup. I hadn’t gotten to a chance try the blueberry muffins yet.
“Where to?” I asked.
“Your trial. It’s right now.”
My palms sweat and I set the cup down.
“I thought it was tonight,” I said as I stood from the comfy patio chair.
Eva and Gareth stared at us in disbelief.
“I meant it when I said I would testify about when Harlow and Leiah attacked you the first time, Eva said.
“Are you sure you want to do that, mate?” Gareth said rubbing her arm.
“I’m not scared of them.”
“Thanks, Eva, but Harlow did most of the attacking.”
“It still shows that she’s capable of attacking you again.” Eva replied.
“I have a strong and compassionate mate, Gareth said and planted a kiss on Eva’s lips.
She blushed and giggled.
Kade hauled me away. I had no idea what to expect. I knew for a fact I would be punished because I used illegal blows but if I didn’t I would be dead. Kade squeezed my hand as we neared the castle.
“Don’t worry about it, mate.”
“I don’t know what to expect.”
“After this neither do I.
We met Alex and Leiah outside Headmistress Athena’s office. Leiah licked her front teeth and smiled. Eva said she would meet us later when she was called in. Harlow would be called as a witness too and she would come up with a horrible story to make me look terrible.
Alex and Kade shared a brief nod. I almost missed it.
“Enter, Athena’s voice boomed.
Kade pushed the door in. He hadn’t left my trembling hand.

Athena’s office had been transformed. There was a long vanished table where four men with salt and paper hair sat and stared at us. On the sides of the room stood two men each and in the centre was a table with two chairs. One for me and Leiah.
Athena rose from the centre seat of the panel in front of my table.
“In the name of fairness, Sanders and Henry pack will not provide defence for either lady. Instead, an independent panel will pass judgment.
“Fuck. Kade said.
I stared at him unable to untangle my tongue. He squeezed my hand for support but I felt the tension in his muscles.
“Take your seats Alpha Heirs.” Athena ordered.
Kade slipped away and I felt my hope deplete. Alex walked over to where his Father sat while Kade stood next to the Sanders Wolves representatives. Leah confidently sashayed to the table secured for us. She swung her right leg over her left thigh and leaned forward.
It was awful panel judges. This girl has been a menace since the day she walked into the Academy. Frankly, I don’t think wolfless‘ should be allowed in the school.”
She just had to go there. A few members stared at each other.
“But you did attack Gabbie, a girl who couldn’t defend herself. You won’t deny that because we have a witness,” Athena said.
“Stupid Eva,” Leiah muttered. “I
came to steal other women’s talone. I didn’t initiate the attack it started because the cunt
Heat rushed to my face. Kade let out an even exhale.
“Anything to say, Miss Chambers?” The man to Athena’s right asked.
“I was only defending myself. Leiah was going to kill me.”
“Never… I was defending myself from her duh.”
“How when Gabriella can’t shift?” Athena asked.
“She threatened me of course. She wants my mate.”
“It sounds like a good time to call Alpha Heir Alex Henry for his involvement,” the man who spoke me to earlier said.
Alex ground his teeth and stood beside Leiah.
“I wasn’t there. I took Gabbie and my omega and my mate was pissed it was my mistake.”
The panel members stared at each other. I rattled my brain for more to say than I was defending myself but the door rattled from someone hammering on it. Athena was quick to rise.

“What is it?” She bellowed. Alpha power blasting with her tone. It went right through me and I cuddled my head.
The double doors burst open and two beta females entered.
“The Alpha females are fighting. We need help.”
We didn’t need to ask who they were. Athena hiked up her dress and crossed the room. Everyone rose with her. Leiah went pale.
“Please, no, she whispered.
The representatives from the pack stared at each other in confusion but the rest of us followed Athena
“How bad is this?” I asked Kade.
“I’m not sure mate.”
The beta females took us to the Alpha castle. Gareth was being held back by four betas. Athena stopped in her tracks. A white wolf stood over a jet–black wolf passed out on the ground. My chest ached from my heart hammering against it. Please let the black wolf be Harlow. The white wolf turned its head revealing a mouth stained with blood.
“Eva.” I gasped.
Kade wrapped his arms around my middle.
-No one can intervene.”
“Eva” Gareth yelled. “No!”
The betas released him as if his arms suddenly turned to burn metal. Gareth dropped to his knees and shouted at the sun. He ripped his shirt open, revealing a black mark covering his chest over his heart.
“What is that?” I asked.
Kade held me tighter. He couldn’t take his eyes off the two wolves. Harlow shifted back to human form. but the black wolf remained still.
Don’t let it be true, I prayed.
“It’s bad. Gabbie.”
Athena raised her hand and glared Gareth’s way. A crushing wave of Alpha power zipped passed us to get to him. My vision blurred from the sheer force of Athena’s power. Kade enveloped me to shield me from the blast. When it was over Gareth was out cold.
“Someone call all the instructors,” Athena said in a hoarse voice.
“That was a power kill,” Kade said speaking my fears.
Eva was dead.

“Battle season has begun.”
Athena’s words echoed in my head. The time I’d been dreading had come and it had arrived with death.
