Chapter 11
Chapter 11
Pre–rituals
There were a few things I couldn’t stop thinking about after Alex and Kade’s encounter yesterday. It added salt to the open wound that no one wanted an omega without a wolf when Kade said he wouldn’t mess with me. It shouldn’t have though. He was an Alpha. Taking omegas as mates wasn’t their forte, especially Sanders wolves. Alex, he said the advantage, but how? And the battle. season, what was that? I found the answer to that when we got to school the next morning.
Apparently, there were a couple of ceremonies before the actual event in a month and the omegas did all the work. Everyone else was supposed to show up and perform.
“How come we don’t have battle season back home?” I asked Blair as we carried boxes from the castle attic into the kitchen. I hadn’t started panting yet after making two rounds down there.
“It’s kind of an academy thing. To determine the extra strong wolves and sometimes… extinguish the weak ones.
I gulped, “Like us?”
She shot me daggers, “Who are you calling weak?”
“Sorry, I just… omegas aren’t the strongest in the pack.”
She threw her head back and groaned. We made it outside into the warm sun. All the omegas. were unpacking age–old decorations for the gamma female ceremony tonight. The good thing was we were allowed to come and actually enjoy ourselves and then clean up the mess tomorrow.
“No, not like us. Omegas don’t participate in the battle seasons… anymore.”
“That’s a relief. At least there’s one thing I’m glad we’re not involved in.”
“I know. Come on, let’s get this finished so we can leave.”
After the ground was swept and the leaves were in buckets and the decorations dangling from the trees it was around four in the afternoon. I was about ready to collapse. It was then I saw the Alphas coming out. I guess they were just inspecting our hard work. I noticed Kade, jaded. compared to the others who went around inspecting the area.
He looked uncomfortable despite the soft white cotton sweatpants and hoodie he had on. Looking at him reminded me of him coming out of the pool, dripping wet. I looked away before he felt my eyes burning him. What would have happened if Alex hadn’t stepped in? Leaves scattered in front of me, sticking to my clothes and spreading on the spotless green grass.

“Hey!” I snapped.
I came face to face with a grinning Leiah. You’ve got to be kidding me. I turned to Blair and she had her face glued to the floor. No… we just finished cleaning.
“Something to say omega?” Leiah asked, crossing her arms over her chest.

I looked at every person who spent the last few hours gathering sticks and leaves. Every face is downcast except the on–looking Alphas. Kade was watching us. As was Harlow the alpha female with the long white hair who helped Leiah kick me out of Alpha Castle the last time I was there. They were with their other friend who completed their trio.
“We just finished cleaning those places.” I said through clenched teeth.
She laughed and flipped her hair over her shoulder, “So? Do it again. It’s only leaves and it was only one basket that fell over.”
“Oh, yeah? You think it’s so easy?”
“Well, any old omega can do it, right?” She tilted her head at me.
“Good.” I picked the broom next to the discarded basket and shoved it at her.
“You do it.” She didn’t catch it. It rolled off her like the gasps out of everyone’s mouths.
“Gabriella,” Blair muttered.
Too late.
“Since anyone can do it. It wouldn’t be such a problem for a big alpha female like you.” I shrugged.
Harlow shot daggers at me with her pale eyes, but in my temporary moment of insanity, her threats didn’t faze me. If Leiah could, steam would be coming out of her ears. She kicked the broom aside.
“You want to know just how big and bad of an alpha I am?” She blasted.
Everyone around me scurried away I shut my eyes and knew what was coming. She blasted me with her power, rattling my brain. I couldn’t just look down like everyone else. I had to pus
her buttons now I was paying for it.
“You think you’re so tough!” She yelled. Another wave of power hit me. It was like a wave crashing against a house made of twigs. I hit the ground.
I opened my eyes and no one would look at me. No one but the people who sided with Leiah. Kade had his arms crossed over his chest, glaring at me. There were no saviours for me here.
“I’ll show you what you really are!” Leiah stomped her heel on the grass.
“Leiah! That’s enough.”
“Come any closer and I swear you’ll regret it.”
My vision had blurred but I was sure Alex was bearing down on his mate while I lay shattered on the floor.
“Leave her alone. You shouldn’t even be here.” Alex barked.

“No, you should be anywhere near her!”
He shrugged her off and walked over to me. Then another crushing wave hit me and I groaned.
“Leiah”
“Get away from her. You know how bad it can get and I’ll only get worse if you don’t get the fuck away from her. You know you can’t stop me.”
He exhaled in exasperation and walked towards her. Of course, he would choose her. He grabbed her arm and brought it to her chest.
“You and I need to talk in private.” He said.
I didn’t hear a response. I think I may have passed out for a couple of seconds before I heard Emery’s voice.
“I think she needs the nurse” She said.
“No. come on Gabbie. Wake up Blair yanked on my arm.
I blinked my eyes open and the setting sun hurt them. It felt like someone pushed a rock on my head
“I still think she needs a nurse. That was a pretty powerful blast. Emery said.
Blair nodded. I managed to sit up on my own. I felt worse when I saw the others picking up Leigh’s mess.
-You didn’t have to do that Gabbie Remember keep your head down.” Blair said.
“It isn’t fair.” I protested.
“Of course, it isn’t fair. Just do what you have to so you make it out alive.
“I think it was pretty cool that you stuck up for us. You should head back to the quarters though and rest it off.”
“I should help-
“Emery’s right. The side effects will wear off in an hour.”
They helped me to my feet. It would be a wobbly trek back to the quarters, but I did as they said. Leiah waved at me on my walk of shame back to the quarters. Suddenly I couldn’t let her get away with this. I could make her trip on a branch and break a leg. Lock her in the beta gallows or the cellar. I shook my head and let it hang as I let the defeat sink in for now.
I collapsed on my head and then pulled out my phone from under my pillow. All I wanted was to speak to my mom. I hadn’t heard from her since I left home. Mom hadn’t returned any of my

weeks now. I dialed her number, but it didn’t even ring. The number was disconnected.
No, it had to be a mistake. I dialed again. The same conclusion. I gripped my phone. What had happened to my mother?
