The New World

Chapter 33 – The weapons

I knew I should probably have been shocked, but these were my kids, special in their own right and the fact that Goddesses talked to them in their dreams just seemed too normal. I might have been a little more worried, I think if they told me Sol talked to them. I glanced at Grayson who merely shrugged his own response and I laughed.

“And how did you mold it, that stone is hard, none of us could do that,” I asked him, holding out my hand for him to put the stone in it. I looked closer at the rock that he was playing with and watched as he shrugged.

“The stone, um might, be hard, mommy, but it’s warm. Don’t you feel it?” I measured the weight in my hand, and felt the thickness, but nothing felt hot. I shook my head at him and then handed it to Grayson who also shook his head as well.

“No, Rayne, it’s not hot to me, but it might be to you and that’s okay.” I sat down on the couch and he crawled on my lap, his arm coming around my neck.

“I have special powers, huh?” he asked.

“You do sweetie, you and your sister. You are both unique.” His tiny hands played with my hair and his red eyes glanced into mine.

“Is that why we don’t play with other kids?” I tried so hard not to laugh or snicker. How could I explain that they were alone in this world, that at this moment, no one was like them and therefore no one could know about them yet?

“Rayne, you and your sister,” I started and then stopped, looking at the crowd for help but they all just shook their heads. They would understand what was going on, why this might be harder to explain, and they were just as much at a loss for words as I was. “It’s dangerous for you two, and for mommy and daddy if a lot of people knew about you. There have never been two hybrids, not even one, in our life. Hybrids don’t exist, they can’t.

“But you two have other powers that make it all possible. And if anyone found out before the time was ready, you two could be lost to us. This is why it’s very important that you are always with someone who is in this room because they will take care of you.” And that was the truth. Everyone here knew who Grayson and I were to be, which meant they all knew that these two little ones were the prince and princess, and just like they would lay down their lives for their king and queen, they would do the same for this young royalty.

“Got it, mommy.” I stared into those eyes, so much like my own, and saw wisdom there that went far beyond his age. Their words might be limited, but they grasped a hell of a lot more than we understood.

“Good, Rayne. Now, want to go with us while we take these stones to daddy’s friend?”

“You don’t need me for that so I’m going to bail out. Your blood helped, Fire, but I need a decent meal.” I nodded and then glanced at Elric, who nodded as well.

“Take a friend with you. Not that I don’t trust you, I don’t trust what this world is becoming,” I told him and Derrick nodded and walked out with Elric, both Anna and Betty bidding their farewells as well. “Tessa, why don’t you go with Jonah and rest up too? We can handle this; after all, it’s going to be our blood to help forge it.” Tessa nodded and followed the crowd out. I turned my attention to Grayson who lifted Rosemina up. “Are you ready?”

“As I’ll ever be. Come on, babe,” he said, holding out his hand for me. I took as I stood back up, Rayne taking my free hand. He opened the door and then stopped, as did we when we saw the three people on the other side.

“Let us accompany you; you’re going to need it.”

“And here I thought, you all were leaving us to handle everything on our own,” Grayson said, walking out of the room. The trio followed the group and the twins kept looking back at them, smiling as they went.

“It seems the goddesses have been talking to these two little ones,” Celeste said and I lifted a brow. “Mundias told us that the spell to forge these couldn’t be found any place.”

“I thought they weren’t really getting involved?” Grayson questioned and Jameson shrugged.

“They aren’t, exactly,” Jameson said, “but that doesn’t mean they can’t give us some information to help or push us along to lend a hand.” I shook my head as we walked into the room, laying the bags on the table that held the stones. The team already had the dimensions for the weapons that we were wanting to be made with the points of the blade, or the edges all being made of the stone.

I watched as the witches took the hands of the twins, cut their little hands and then ours, the droplets of blood landing on the stones and the bags that the witches opened up. Then they created a circle around the stones, words coming easily from their mouths. The twins watched them with confused looks before turning their attention to the bags and the stones. The chant was short and they repeated the few lines again, the twins joining them. We all watched as the stones started turning red, something that was impossible for them to do before they died down to the black stones. Finally, the witches stopped, smiled at the twins, nodded to Grayson and me, and left just as silently as they came. I looked at Grayson who waved his hand for the men to start.

Mariana walked down the hallway of the old house, memories flooding her mind. They once were mostly silent, members of his coven not staying for long. And now, the hallways were filling up with demons, both vampires and wolves. Her eyes scanned the groups and she noticed that there didn’t seem to be one witch amongst the demons so she was going to say Demonio hadn’t yet found the one he wanted. She paused as she stopped outside the study, curious as to why he would call her. Mariana opened the doors and walked into the room, stopping before the desk at the God who was sitting behind.

“Good evening, you called me for, sir?” Mariana wasn’t surprised she got the call from The General asking her to come back to the house; however, she was slightly surprised it was at the request of the God.

“Yes, I wanted to talk to you some more about Fire and Grayson and you seem like the only one who would have the answers I seek. Please sit so we can talk.” Mariana tilted her head at that as she sat down. What more information could he possibly want from her now?

“It’s not like I know their life story, but I will try to help in any way I can, sir.” Mariana was aware that the God thought her to be dumb and useless, which is what she wanted, so again, a surprise to say she was here.

“Was Fire and Grayson coming together pretty fast?”

“Yes, I would say so. About a year ago, I believe they found each other and it was a fast union.”

“And did they fight it? Their union?” Mariana narrowed her eyes slightly at that question. She wasn’t a fan of Fire’s, of course, but that didn’t mean she didn’t know some snippets of their relationship. She just couldn’t quite figure out why he wanted to know.

“That I can’t say. Fire and I aren’t the greatest of friends and their relationship wasn’t business I wanted to know about.”

“I see, you don’t care for her?” Demonio asked and again, Mariana was confused.

“I was into Grayson, we had a fling prior to them coming together, and I might have been jealous about them being together.”

“Yes, I guess I can understand that. What do you know of their kid?” Mariana paused at that. Where did he get that they had a kid? She had been with them and wasn’t even sure she believed that, especially as she was a vampire herself. And if the rumor was true, it was a set of twins, not one child.

“There’s two that I heard of. But that’s all it was, mere rumor.”

“You never the saw the twins?” Mariana licked her lips at that question.

“No,” she replied, honestly. With her two eyes, she hadn’t seen them. She was invited to the baby christening at the time, though, she knew a baby was there. “I had left the camp before any of that if it’s true.”

“You say if, why? Is it not possible?” Mariana hardly got nervous with questions. In most cases, when questions started to bother her, she would just take the person asking them out, usually had quite the meal out of it. But being that it was Demonio, she knew she didn’t stand a chance.

“It’s not. I am a vampire, quite a few hundred years old in fact. And any of us having children is impossible. So, if you want my honest thoughts, and if there are kids, it’s not Fire’s. Grayson may have slept with someone or they had a surrogate of some sort, but I do not believe it was Fire’s. Nor do I ever recall her with child, which is something I saw before I left them.” She watched as Demonio’s face fell. It was obvious that was information he didn’t want to hear as if he didn’t think about it, and she couldn’t help but wonder why.
