Chapter 21 – ‘Born of Magic’
Once Trevor was gone saying he would check back if he had more information, Demonio looked at Francis. It was clear to the God that he had the right Alpha in line to do what he needed done. But before he went on, he certainly had some questions that he needed answers to. The God leaned back in his seat and smirked.
“I’m going to assume that Trevor is a man you know pretty well and trust actually?”
“You would assume correctly.”
“So, now the question begs to be asked, why would you send him to spy on this Grayson?” Francis ran his knuckles over his beard, figuring out the best way to explain what he was thinking or what he was hearing. And to someone like this God, this might not make sense. Then again, he wasn’t all too sure what this God knew and didn’t know. As a God, Francis would assume that Demonio knew a lot about the super naturals as well.
“Grayson was sent all over the world to explore, to make allies and to learn the different ways of covens, families and packs. By the time I had met him, he had already been to a few various different places and learned quite a bit from his travels; a strange thing to me, but I wouldn’t fault him for it. He was a good guy, not one I could turn to walk down the path I was on, but still made a friend with him. His dad was a powerful and strong Alpha and there was no doubt that Grayson would be the same.” Francis paused and Demonio crossed his legs, his patience slowly thinning it out. He was not a patient God and that was becoming more and more obvious to Francis.
“Yes, I can understand all of that, but what does this have to do with sending a spy over? That’s a lot of resources to waste to just make sure he is still playing nice Alpha.”
“You know that vampires are the best forms gossips right? Anything you want to know, ask a blood sucker.” Demonio narrowed his eyes; he was reaching his breaking point for useless and pointless chatter, although, he would admit that Francis useless talking had spiked a very vague interest. “I had heard that Grayson had found his mate.”
“So?” Demonio roared and Francis lifted a brow.
“So,” Francis started, drawing out the word and finally smirked, “it was rumored that Grayson’s mate was the odd vampire Fire.” That instantly had Demonio charged but he wasn’t boiling over in anger. Now he wanted all the useless chatter he could get. These two names kept coming up a lot with an association he wasn’t keen on at all.
“Why would a powerful Alpha mate with a vampire? Even better yet, how the fuck would they mate? There are just something’s that can’t be done.”
“That was the question I kept asking myself, why a vampire? And if that was it true, because none of that made sense to me. I’ve slept around with vampires, sure, but never, in my mind, would I think of claiming one.” Francis stood up and walked over to the window that was over looking his pack lands; having no problem giving them up for more power.
“Is it true though?” Demonio asked from the same spot. “Is he mated to a vampire?”
“You heard Trevor; there was no mention of Fire. But there has been no name but hers associated with Grayson. And no one has babies. Not that a vampire can even have babies. They are bitten and turned, not born.”
“Not Fire.” Francis snapped his head around and looked at the God. What the hell was that? He wanted to call bull shit because there was not vampire he knew of that was born; they had no means of making that happen.
“What?”
“Have you ever met Fire?” Demonio asked. Francis slowly shook his head.
“No, but I’ve seen her at parties. She is a gorgeous creature, but her eyes often turned me off.”
“She’s odd and different because she’s unlike any other vampire. Fire was never bitten, she was birthed.”
“Now how the fuck is that possible?”
“She comes from a God herself; Sol.” Francis gave Demonio a confused look and the God sighed. His brother did a damn good job of writing his name out of any vampire’s history; no one seemed to know anything about him.
“I’ll explain all about that later. But let’s leave it at the fact that Fire was pretty much born from magic. So with her, anything is possible.”
“Okay, if by some outlandish way Fire is with Grayson and managed to give birth to creatures, they would still be part wolf and therefore no reason to give up a pack, they could lead when he is done being Alpha. That just doesn’t make any sense to give a pack because of them; my mind just can’t wrap around that.”
“Mine either; it’s too far out there for me to agree with. But when you go this party you can at least see if they are together.” Francis narrowed his eyes at Demonio. He was pushing this, but why? What was it to him? How did he even know of her? What was she to Demonio?
“What would you know of Fire anyway, Demonio?”
“She’s my niece, I would know more thank you think.”
-----
Anna closed her lap top as she looked at Dylan, Grayson and finally Fire. When her Beta had sent the news clips of wolves, massive wolves at that, that were going berserk and entering not just villages or small towns but cities and were killing and attacking people, she knew she would have to show everyone. Granted she didn’t want to show them on Dylan’s ceremony day, but she knew she couldn’t wait, not with news this big.
And she knew she would have to show the others. But Derrick was watching two little ones and the witches, well; this was a holy day for the covens, so they were honoring Mundias. And she already knew that she would hear about it, that she didn’t show them right away. But as it was, Grayson and Fire were her King and Queen, they took priority and they even said to wait on showing the witches.
I blinked a few times as I stared at the closed laptop before looking up and locking eyes with Anna. Poor woman would looked worried beyond belief and I couldn’t say I blamed her. I touched Grayson’s arm and he turned to look at me.
“Is this what I think it is?” Dylan finally asked and I turned to look at him.
“I think Demonio has found his Alpha and our time is going a lot faster than even I thought.” Grayson rubbed his eyes and shook his head.
“I don’t even know what to think of this. Humans have assumed us super naturals here existed but we didn’t make points of showing ourselves. And wolves don’t attack like that either. So now, we have vampires drinking like crazy and wolves on killing sprees.” He paused and walked over to the window. “Fuck!” he roared.
“When we saw them,” I told Anna, glancing at Grayson who wasn’t listening to me, “these wolves’ looks more like rabid dogs. Even the vampires had foam coming out of their mouths. I know Jonah and Tessa are busy today but send a message to Derrick and let him know that we have footage and believe that Demonio has found the Alpha; he can see it when I’m done and can watch the kids again. Also, ask him if he can think of any Alpha’s as well that might be into the dark side. Between all of us, maybe we can start making a decent list and start before things get worse.”
“Right away Fire. I will see you down there.”
“Dylan, it’s your ceremony, we will be down there shortly.” Dylan nodded and I walked over to Grayson, kissing the mark on his neck. He shivered and looked down at me. “We can’t do anything tonight, no matter how much we want to. You have a ceremony to perform and I need your mind on that.”
“Can you believe mine was just about a year ago?”
“Yeah, scary huh? You didn’t get to be Alpha for very long, but you did have some good changes to your pack, and they did look up to you.” He chuckled and wrapped his arm around my waist.
“I love you Fire.”
“I love you too Grayson.” We walked down the stairs. And as he opened the door, I paused, something was there, at the ceremony, I could feel it, but hell if I could even start to pin point what it was. I held Grayson closer, needing his warmth and strength and then paused when he paused. I looked up at him and then at the man who had stepped in front of us, his eyes boring into mine. I shivered from his stare but stood my ground, no matter how murderous his gaze was.
