Chapter 14 - Powerful
He closed his eyes as he drew back and I made sure to lick the blood, smiling at him. God, there wasn’t nothing I didn’t love about this man. And I wasn’t too sure if he knew just how much he had owned me or how odd it was for me to be with one man. Then again that may be why no one ever satisfied me for long, they weren’t made for me.
“You’re thinking,” Grayson said as he rolled to my side and pulled me in his arms, his fingers running over the lines on my forehead. I turned on my side and smiled at him as I ran my hand over his hip and waist.
“Thinking of how no one ever made me as happy as you, do you know that? That in all my years, I’ve never been so content or so in love?” He ran his fingers through my hair and I had to let out a sigh. I could never tire of that feeling, no matter what, when I was in his arms and he ran fingers through my hair, I would do anything for him. And as my words hit his mind and he processed them, I heard the slight growl at the thought of other men. I couldn’t fight the giggle and kissed his chest, which calmed him down.
“You know, I’m the same, no one makes me as complete as you,” Grayson said as he kissed the top of my head.
“I know that we were really made for each other than,” I told him as I ran my nail over his chest. He smiled as he grabbed my hand and kissed the finger.
“There was never a doubt.” I sighed and curled up to him, missing this. We hadn’t had a night to just enjoy each other for a while. “Are you going to tell me what you and Tessa were talking about the other day at the meeting?”
“The twins.” I wrapped my arm around him, my nails running lightly over his lower back and over his most recent tattoo. “You know they are well beyond a wolf or a vampire, there are witch powers too, far beyond what you and I can do.”
“Which would make some sense I guess, given that teaching someone isn’t really as powerful as someone born with it?”
“All very true. But I wanted to make sure that both may have this, so I asked her what witches did when they had twins and she said they didn’t, that having two unharnessed powers would cause problems.” Grayson furrowed his brows, his hands stopping in their gentle motions along my side.
“The room,” he uttered.
“Yes.”
“It was the two of them together though, not just one. It’s like they are feeding off each other. This would make sense given what happened earlier.” I looked up at him, my brow lifted. I hadn’t heard anything but it wasn’t like we had a lot of time to talk either.
“What happened?”
“I went with Dylan to look at the piece of land that Midnight thought of and it was gorgeous and perfect. Close to both Dylan and Elric and had a mountain at our back, a means for an escape.” At that, I just lifted my brow again. Uh, hello, we were all special beings here and escape was not a term we used a lot of. “Yeah, Dylan gave me that same look. Okay, so I spaced that, geez. Anyway, I sat Rosemina down and Dylan sat Rayne down next to her. But then Rosemina growled and something like shot from her hand. Looking back, I believe Dylan was touching her.”
“Who was she growling at?”
“From what very faint scene I could pick up on a wolf, but not an alpha. He was hiding in the trees and it didn’t seem like he was a threat; almost as if he was just watching us.”
“But not one you know?”
“No, but not anyone working for Demonio either.”
“Because he wasn’t an alpha,” I repeated thinking that over. “Do you think anyone knows about us, that maybe people are picking up on things and wanting to find us? Word is spreading through covens too, saying that I may not be in charge. And that could put my coven in danger if other vampires no longer worried about me in charge.”
“But how would anyone know about us? If they did, it would be that we are mated and that would mean people are talking who shouldn’t be.”
“I mean, we have been seen together, but many others know there are sexual relationships between wolves and vampires, but never mating. So, yeah, I guess if others were talking, people would want to see why or how.”
“Well, no offense Fire, it’s not like many people don’t know you or of your name. And I like to think my pack was pretty powerful so some would know who Grayson was, even in the short time I was in charge. Most knew I was away, anyway.”
“So, you think we captured even more attention?”
“I’m saying that I don’t think it helped us. So, yeah, if people talked then maybe more people were curious.” Grayson frowned even more and I could tell something else was on his mind.
“What is it Grayson?”
“Anna, Dylan and I were talking before you and I left. You judge powerful packs by its warriors and by its leaders, not quite by the strength as a whole. We’ve seen many high packs with some of the best warriors fall to other packs because the lack of a strong alpha is present. But you also need a damn good beta, someone who listens yet stands strong.”
“What do you mean?”
“A strong beta needs to be able to listen to their alpha, to follow without question until the time the pack is no longer first. Like if an alpha orders an attack that won’t end up well for the pack, the beta needs to stand up and say no, no matter the cost to him or her. To have a powerful pack, you need both key players.”
“And what, you guys aren’t finding any?”
“Well, that’s just it. Anna would have been one of the most powerful, and Dylan agrees. Her land is huge, her warriors are strong and her leadership is amazing, but she hasn’t been talked to. But…,” he paused and I watched him. It was easy to see that he was trying hard to come up with the words or answers.
“But, what honey?” He smiled at that and kissed my head.
“But we are looking at this as see powerful, not how a God would see. The General doesn’t have the largest coven and he is not the oldest vampire, so why did Demonio pick him?” I licked my lips, feeling the start of my hunger come again but I fought it off. I hadn’t taken a lot but I had taken enough and I needed to let Grayson rest.
“The General is mean, heartless and cruel. He rules his coven in fear, not with respect and that makes him dangerous.”
“Exactly. Which means that maybe we should be thinking of ruthless leader; selfish alpha’s who would risk their pack for something.” I frowned; hating alpha’s like that, although over the years, I have had my fair share of dealings with those types. “I have to talk to Anna and Dylan tomorrow; tonight I’m done talking about this. I want to focus on this oh so sexy vampire I have in my arms, who is fighting her hunger. Why?” I couldn’t help the laugh that escaped.
“You need to stop picking up on these things. But I know I had taken enough and that you need to rest still.” I watched as Grayson’s eyes narrowed at me. “What?”
“I’m perfectly fine for you to take more and you know that.” I sighed, sometimes forgetting how stubborn this man could be.
“I’m just…”
“Stop! You don’t need to worry.” His eyes looked at me before they trailed over me and I smirked.
“Fine, no worrying.”
“Good. Now, I have another confession to make.” His lips ran over my neck and I closed my eyes, letting out a moan as he ran his tongue over my mark.
“And that would be what?”
“Our first night together and you were in the shower, do you remember?”
“Of course.”
“I so badly wanted to sneak in so that I could have my way with you in there.” I squealed as he lifted me up. I quickly threw my arm around him and gave him a quick kiss as we headed to the bathroom. But as he reached for the handle to start the water, I tilted my head, hearing something and stopped him. I looked over as I heard the rustling again, my face a mask of confusion.
“What?” he asked.
“Someone’s outside the suite door.” He frowned but I was glad I had my hearing.
“I smell nothing.” And given everything that was very confusing, and worrisome.
