The Misfits

Chapter Epilogue

The visit to Lyle and Maggie Clark’s home was delayed for two weeks but was not what was originally expected.

Cassidy, Gemma, Myra, and Halley all came for their summer visit, but also included were the seven kids that had been kidnapped from their families.

Cassidy talked it out with Lyle, telling him what actually happened, and what was decided on to tell the public.

Lyle went to the police, letting them know that the explosion and fire from Marshall, South Carolina were actually caused by kids escaping from a ring of human traffickers.

His claim wasn’t believed at first, and when he proved he was keeping and protecting seven kids, who backed his claim, it made national news.

The kids were interviewed on TV and made reference to being kept in the Facility and that they were glad it had been destroyed and if there were more, they hoped they too would be found and destroyed.

They referred to their guardian angel, who rescued them, and their hunt for other places like that one.

That would let the people who ran the Facilities that it was known, and if there were more out there, they were being sought by someone, or a group of someone’s. And if they were smart, they would realize that the people hunting them had the abilities they were searching for.

They would be smart to be concerned.

After the families came to collect their children, Cass, Gem, Myra, and Harley had the vacation they had waited for, although Issy was sorry to see all of her new friends leave, especially Frank, who spent countless hours amusing the two-year-old with all of his water creations.

She was disappointed that Cass couldn’t swim because of her cast, but that didn’t stop Cass from using her abilities, and Myra made up for it by nearly living in the water with Issy.

Jaden offered a bonus to the builders of her house if they could do a quality job, and get it done in under six months, and they did.

Jaden turned eighteen and with her own house, and Gwynne Gray’s help, along with her father’s money, filed to adopt Wanda and Alex, along with Bree and Mitch.

Gwynne Gray agreed to foster Edward and Roy, and to be there to help out Jaden should the need arise.

With the help of money, the families in question, nor Child Services could find fault in either person wanting to help out these children in need.

The actual paperwork would take time, but it was all done but being official. The one family of two, expanded to two families of eleven. There were several references made to the X-Men and Professor X in the arrangement, as everyone had to work o their skills in case the Facility tried to recapture them, or they found another Facility and had to rescue more kids.

Wanda talked to Elias every day, or more often, not including email, texts, and instant messages. Visits were scheduled as well for certain young, but very demanding girls who insisted on time with their friends, especially Elias.

Jaden’s house, as well as the Gray house were open to all of them, as well as their families. The families had all been told the truth, so they knew how important all of these kids were to each other, not to mention how much they owed the group of kids who rescued theirs. For now, the kids were safe and happy.

The members who ran the Facilities were not happy, however.

“There’s no word from Ms. Hawkins?” the CEO asked an underling.

“No sir. None at all. It’s presumed she perished with all of the others at the Marshall Facility. We had word that one guard survived, but he’s gone dark, and we haven’t been able to find him to get answers,” the man answered.

“And the kids?”

“All trackers went offline. The last known positions for all of them are at the Gray location. Those trackers are also useless. It’s been determined that they were removed some time ago. The two at the Gray location have been together, going in circles, and all over the area, at the exact same time. So, unless the subjects have literally been together for months, they are no good.”

The CEO’s jaw muscles tightened. “And what of this veiled threat to take on other Facilities?”

“Unknown. But so far, the subjects have managed to escape from one, and completely neutralize another, so I wouldn’t consider it an empty threat. Security agrees.”

The CEO grunted. “Fine. Tighten security at the remaining Facilities and remove any loose ends. Dismissed.”

The underling left the CEO’s office, the door sliding closed behind him. He hit a button on his phone and his assistant answered.

“Yes sir?”

“Suzy, please get Mr. Rolokov on the phone.”

“Right away sir.”

The CEO waited the few minutes it took to get the other man on the phone. His phone rand and he hit a button.

There was a squeal of noise and them a robotic voice announced the connection was secure. It was now unable to be listened into by anyone, even the Intelligence community.

“Very good to hear from you Mr. Chairman. How can I help you?”

“Mr. Rolokov, I have a problem that I need to be resolved – discretely. Several subjects are now free. We cannot allow that.”

“I see. I must warn you however that if they disappear how, it may raise flags. Things must progress slowly to keep it from the public eye.”

“I’ll let you deal with the details. Just make sure it gets handled before it becomes an even bigger issue, affecting more Facilities.”

“As you wish Mr. Chairman. My standard fee will of course apply.”

“Naturally. Let me know if you need anything. Goodbye.”

The CEO hung up; satisfied things would be delt with properly.
