Chapter 37 - Cassidy
Cassidy
Cassidy rolled over, still out of breath and sweating lightly.
“Are you okay?” Robbie asked.
“Sore kinda. But a good kind of sore.”
Robbie moved closer to her, tying to snuggle.
“Robbie, I don’t want to be a killjoy, but we need to get some sleep.”
“Okay,” he said, not moving.
Cass sighed, not wanting to be a bad guy after such a good night. “Robbie. You can’t be here in the morning. Gemma or my mom might see. Worse yet, Myra might come in even before that. My doors not locked.”
Robbie put a hand on her. “Maybe just one more –”
“Sleep, Robbie. Go. We have all the time in the world once this is over. Tonight was good. Wonderful. It was a distraction. I’m not sure if that was good or bad, but tomorrow isn’t going to be easy and I need rest. So, for now, goodnight.”
Robbie reluctantly got up and got dressed. He left and Cass tried to sleep but was restless.
Cass’s door opened again, and Cass said, “No Robbie. I mean it.”
“Not Robbie,” Myra said. “I waited until he left.”
“Oh,” Cass said and thought, Busted.
Myra closed the door and walked to Cass’s bed. She bent over, picked something up and put it in the trash can.
Cass realized it was an empty wrapper, but wisely said nothing. Neither did Myra.
Myra got into bed, sliding next to Cass. Neither acknowledged the fact Cass wasn’t wearing anything as Myra curled up against her, putting an arm over her.
“I’m worried about tomorrow,” Myra said.
Cass put an arm around the girl. “Me too. You can still stay here.”
“No,” Myra said, adamant. “I won’t let you go alone.”
“I won’t be alone, sweet pea.”
“You know what I mean,” Myra said.
“I do. And I appreciate it. I’ll do everything I can to keep you safe.”
“And I’d do the same.”
“Okay. Now go to sleep,” Cass told her.
“Goodnight. And Cass?”
“Yes?”
“Later on, I’ll have questions. You know that.”
Cassidy sighed but wanted to laugh. “I bet you will sweet pea, I bet you will.”
They both slept until morning.
Morning came and everyone got up and started getting ready.
Jaden took Robbie aside and went to work on him with a marker. She surprised everyone with her artistic skills, giving him several tribal tattoos along with some other things.
Robbie put on a t-shirt that had the sleeves cut off, making him look a bit rougher. The shirt was actually one of his practice shirts for football, but it still looked the part.
Cassidy and Wanda dressed down, putting on grungy clothing, since they were supposed to have been held by Jose and his men for the last two weeks.
Although Jose’s arrangement had been for one person, they had decided on including Wanda in the exchange. This would throw the guards, who were coming to pick them up, and make a distraction for the kids.
The rest wore regular clothes.
After a quick breakfast, they piled into Jaden’s van and took off, but not before Cass gave Harley orders to guard her mom and Alex.
With everyone else going, that left them vulnerable if the Facility decided to strike at that moment.
Harley would do his best to protect them.
