Chapter 33 - Cassidy
Cassidy
Cass spent the next week resting, letting her injuries heal. The bruising on her face and side was slowly fading and she guessed her arm was healing, but the cast wouldn’t come off for at least another eight weeks.
Which meant no swimming for her. Showers were hard enough, and a bath was slightly easier.
Robbie came over often, and Gemma spent more time with Frankie, Cass spent more time with Jaden and Wanda, getting closer to them.
They were at the house more often than not, Cassidy’s mom not minding a bit. They were never under foot, and it made up for the fact that she always wanted more children but never did.
Having a houseful, even if they were teens, didn’t matter.
Jaden insisted on shopping for food, since the four mouths Mrs. Gray was feeding went to seven or more.
Cass saw less of Myra now that she was growing up and spending so much time with Alex. Myra was still around, and spent time with Cass, mostly at night.
Cass wondered if it was because Myra missed her, if Myra knew Cass missed her, or so Cass wouldn’t worry that Alex was sneaking into her room at night.
Myra might be a hormonal teen, but Cassidy knew she was responsible to a fault, and didn’t actually worry about the last.
And if anything did happen, Myra was old enough to do what she wanted with her own body.
Cass could only worry about her, she couldn’t stop her from doing… well, whatever.
Towards the end of the first week, the kids all sat down to try to make some sort of plan.
It wasn’t much of a plan, considering they didn’t know much. They had a meeting place, and if it truly was a Facility, then Cassidy and Gemma knew some of the things they might run into.
The security doors in the corridors prevented subjects from going too far, and they could be blocked off on both sides, so a knockout gas could be introduced.
This would put subjects to sleep, then they could be taken back to their cells, or as the Facility called them, rooms.
The guards had normal firearms as well as tranquilizer guns and wouldn’t hesitate to use either one if necessary.
The two combined would be hard to overcome.
Jaden brought up the issue of the supposed transfer. Several teenage girls showing up would look suspicious considering that the Facility usually delt with Jose or his men.
Cass suggested Jessie to play the role of Jose’s guy, but no one thought he looked like a hoodlum. Jaden looked to feminine, and Cass didn’t’ want to, but Gemma suggested Robbie.
He didn’t necessarily look the part but could be made up. Being a football player, Robbie was more muscular than Jessie, and his shaggy hair beat Jessie’s blond surfer hair.
Cassidy relented and said she’d ask Robbie for his help. Jaden said she could use a little make-up to make him look more sinister.
She suggested she could use a marker and give him some tattoos. Cass rolled her eyes but said, “Sure.”
Myra got another email saying that Elias was going to make his attempt at midnight, which was actually good timing, since the exchange was done under the cover of darkness.
The meet was arranged for eleven pm, so they would be a little early, but they could adjust as they went. Since they weren’t sure of how to get into the Facility itself, they might have to use that extra time to figure a way in.
Cassidy wished she knew more before going in, since they barely made it out last time. She really didn’t want to go in, only to be captured again. Not to mention the fact that she was bringing four more people with abilities with her.
Cass really didn’t want to put the others in danger, but she knew she wouldn’t be able to pull this off alone.
Once all the plans were made, Jaden told everyone about the progress on the new house. The old one was being torn down, and the blueprints for a new one were being worked on. Construction could begin as early as the following month. Then it would take around six months to build, before they would be neighbors.
Cass talked to Robbie the next day, and he agreed to help without hesitation. Like the last time, they would get an early start, so he would spend the night the night before.
They had further to travel, so they would all get up earlier, have a quick breakfast and start the drive. There would be six of them, so they could swap drivers if needed, but bathroom breaks would be needed, as well as stops for good, gas or a recharge on Jaden’s van.
So, leaving early would give them plenty of time to get to the area. They didn’t want to be too early, so they would wait somewhere locally until just before the meeting time, so they could arrive just a few minutes early.
With everything set, all they could do now was wait.
