Chapter 3 - Siblings
OKSANA’S POV
Oksana didn’t know what to think of the situation. When Dima first landed on her, she almost had a heart attack. She thought that was how she was going to die, and not even being able to call out for help genuinely bummed her.
She hated her weak body. Every two weeks, she would get sick. If the wind picked up, she got sick, if it rained, she got sick, and if it was too hot, she would get sick. Oksana hated living like that, and that’s why she is extremely thankful to her family. More so to her sister, that screamed in her stead when she needed her to.
The man on top of her might have been sexy, but she was too scared to care and to listen to a word he said. But now that she knew all that he had gone through just to finally find her... Her heart fluttered with that knowledge, and she felt happy to know there actually is someone out there for her, just like her grandmothers would tell her. Part of her pitied Dima for having to put up with a sick mate like her, but the selfish part of her didn’t want to care about that. Deep down, she knew she had to tell him, and she had to do it right after he got out of her shower. Otherwise, she would lose all her courage.
“Um... Maybe I should make him something to eat.” Oksana mumbled and weakly lifted herself out of her bed and left her room, going down the stairs to the kitchen to prepare something for Dima. All, just so she could avoid the rejection she knew would come when Dima realized she was just a weak, sick human that could never be by his side.
‘Call me weak, but I don’t want to have my heart broken and my father committing murder.’ She mumbled to herself and went down the stairs.
“SANA! SANA! Are you better, Sana?” Akir and Dania, Oksana’s seven years old little brother and four years old baby sister, came running out of their room to meet her at the end of the stairs. They haven’t seen her in four days, or at least she hasn’t seen them in four days, but then again, she’s been sleeping most of the time.
“Hi, guys. I’m better, yes.” She told them and caressed their faces. They beamed up at her and hugged her tightly before each one of them took one of her hands and helped her down the last step.
“Thank you, my little heroes.” Oksana complimented them and kissed each one on their forehead. They were used to seeing her sick and knew that she was still not hundred percent ok, so they insisted on helping her with everything.
Angus always told them that Oksana was fragile. He always painted her as a fragile china doll made of glass. Oksana doesn’t blame him for that, and neither does he do it with bad intentions, but other than Jamila, no one in the family lets her breathe without being glued to her side worried.
These two little ones, currently guiding her to the kitchen, love stories about knights so, their dad convinced them that Oksana needed knights to protect her. He did the same with her other two brothers, Kaavy and Axton, and everyone in the village treats her the same way. Oksana was tired of that treatment, but she didn’t want to offend anyone nor seem like an ungrateful girl, so she bore with it.
“Here, Sana, sit down while Dania and I help you. Just tell us what you want, and we’ll get you everything!” Akir energetically told her and hurriedly let go of her hand to pull back a chair for Oksana to sit down at the kitchen table. As soon as the chair was pulled back enough for her to sit, Akir went back to her side and, he and Dania helped her sit down.
“Thank you, guys.” Oksana sat down and thought about what to make for Dima. She didn’t know his likes and dislikes, but since he was a bear shifter, nothing could go wrong with bacon. She decided to make crispy bacon and-
“Sana, can you make our peanut butter sandwich? The special ones, please? No one else knows how to make them as good as yours!” Dania pleaded and made puppy dog eyes. Akir elbowed her and glared, but Dania ignored him, choosing to push him away instead.
“Of course, hun.” Oksana immediately agreed and stood up.
“What do you think you’re doing, Dania?!” Akir started bickering with Dania in whispers, and Oksana giggled softly at them. She had missed them and their weird ploys.
“What do you think, genius? I asked for what everyone wants.” Dania sassily responded to her older brother.
“Yeah, but you know that we can’t help with the peanut butter sandwiches. They are Oksana’s secret, you genius.” Akir flicked Dania’s forehead, and the youngest yelped in pain before punching Akir. Oksana turned around to scold the kids at the exact same moment the front door opened, and loud laughter erupted from the two figures in the doorway.
“Did you see his face? It was so freaking hilarious!”
“HECK YEAH, I DID! Did you see his eye twitch?” Both teenagers double over in laughter and close the door behind them, making their way further into the living room.
Oksana smiled at her younger siblings’ loudness and quickly turned the bacon before going back to make her secret sandwiches. Suddenly their laughter got cut short, and Axton’s voice rang loudly through the living room and into the kitchen.
“Oksana? What are you doing out of bed and in the kitchen? You were burning up in bed just a few hours ago. There’s no way you’re ok now.” The seventeen years old, thunderous foot’s steps made their way into the kitchen, but Oksana ignored them and continued making enough secret sandwiches for everyone. Before Axton walked inside the kitchen, Kaavy’s voice resonated even louder than Axton’s, catching the kids’ attention.
“WHO THE HELL IS THAT?” The eighteen years old yelled. Oksana didn’t even have to turn around to know he was talking about Dima, hence why she only reprimanded his choice of words.
“Language.” She reprimanded him and finished making the bacon and the sandwiches. Once done and feeling everyone’s eyes burning on the back of her head, she turned around to face her brothers and her growling mate.
“Dima met my younger brothers. Kaavy, Axton, Akir, Dania, met my mate, Dima.” She spoke up and watched everyone’s reaction through the kitchen counter’s window that faced the living room. A deep, tense silence fell over them, and Oksana got ready to push the button that would call her father down in case a fight broke out when Dania spoke up.
“I CAN’T SEE HIM!” The little girl complained loudly and, huffed annoyed, before crossing her arms over her chest and puffing her cheeks.
“Me too, but I heard him growl, so maybe he is a wolf.” Akir agreed with Dania and joined her in sulking, puffing his cheeks and crossing his arms over his chest as well.
“Let’s go to Kaavy! If he can see him, then we will be able to see him as well!” Dania suddenly exclaimed and took off running with Akir right on her heels. They pushed Axton on their way out of the kitchen, and Oksana laughed at their eagerness to see her mate.
Oksana grabbed a kitchen cloth and started cleaning her hands on it while walking to the kitchen doorway, to be able to see the end of the stairs where, more than probably, was where Dima stood. Her brother Axton gave her a side hug and kissed the top of her head while keeping a scowl on his face and eying Dima.
“Stop glaring at Dima.” Oksana lowly muttered to Axton, who kissed his sister’s head and kept on glaring at her mate. Oksana ignored her brother’s ‘sweat caring gesture’ and glared at the side of his head for glaring at her mate.
“WOW! You’re HUGE!” Dania suddenly exclaimed and fell against Akir while trying to look at Dima’s eyes. Akir, who had his mouth hanging wide open, also tried to accomplish the task his little sister didn’t manage to and fell against Kaavy, who now supported the two kids’ weight. Everyone started laughing at the kids’ reactions, and their laughter was so loud that it attracted Angus, Zainab, and Jamila.
