Chapter Honesty
Roisin and her team set out, leaving Anya and Wes in charge of Ishtall and Sanctuary's respective laboratories. Their first destination was Camp Almost Heaven, in the ruins of Terrana, which was a few days north of Sanctuary.
On the second day of the journey, Syl led the way, Roisin walked with him, and put her hand on his shoulder.
"Are you sure... you're okay going here?" Roisin asked, Syl silently nodded, then sighed.
"I have to see it, with my own eyes" Syl frowned.
"I can't imagine what its like... I'm sorry" Roisin nodded.
"That's not true" Syl smiled slightly. "You know more than anyone what it feels like to lose... everything" He said as he gazed at the ground in front of him, the flora had begun to spread even further out from Sanctuary than expected. Roisin nodded and hugged Syl's arm.
"I'm glad I can be here for you, I wouldn't want you to face this alone" She smiled. Syl laughed slightly, and ruffled Roisin's hair.
"You didn't let everything that happened change you, did you?" He asked. Roisin shook her head.
"I can't. If I lost myself... the others need me to be strong" Roisin smiled sadly. Syl frowned to himself.
"Roisin. You can't bottle up your emotions to please others" He sighed.
"What do you mean?" She asked.
"All your life, you've done it. Always put others before yourself. You need to be selfish sometimes" Syl explained.
"I can't be though. I'm..." Roisin paused before looking at the blue skies over head. Syl stopped and grabbed Roisin's hand, stopping her too.
"Roisin" Syl said, in a tone that she wasn't familiar with.
"What?" Roisin asked, almost angrily.
"I love you, you're my sister, I... want to protect you, but you won't let me. You can't shut me out from your emotions forever. I know you better than anyone. Even Dex or Uncle Atlas, we grew up together, we argued, fought, shouted. I can't bear the thought of not knowing what is going on inside that head of yours" Syl explained. "That day, back in the apartment, before I left for Una Academy, I made a promise that I would always protect you, no matter what. I don't intend to ever break that promise" He added.
Syl steeled himself for Roisin's fury, closing his eyes, but to his shock, rather than a fist to his arm, he felt Roisin hugging him, as she cried.
"I don't wanna die, Syl" She cried. The others had since walked ahead, and were well out of earshot by now. Syl hugged Roisin back.
"I won't let that happen, don't worry, Ros" He comforted her as tears fell from his eyes onto Roisin's jacket.
"You can't stop it... no one can. It has to be me..." Roisin cried, as she pulled back and looked in Syl's eyes.
"What... do you mean?" He asked, looking confused.
Roisin reached into her pocket, and pulled out the piece of Light Matter. Syl reached for it but Roisin closed her hand.
"What is that?" Syl asked.
"Light Matter... the only thing that can kill whatever those things are" Roisin sighed deeply, as she put the Light Matter back into her pocket.
"And only you can use it?" Syl asked. Roisin nodded, and gazed at the sun.
"It'll kill me, but we'll be safe" Roisin said, in a calm tone.
"I..." Syl began. "No, there must be another way, Roisin, we can work it out" He reasoned.
"No, you don't get it, Syl" Roisin grunted angrily. "It has to be ME! Like always! I get the broken arms! I get thrown about! Use as a pawn! So of course it has to fucking be me!" Roisin shouted, as her voice echoed for miles around, her eyes slowly turning red. She awaited Syl's reply, in her fury.
Instead, Syl threw his arms around Roisin and hugged her, without saying a word.
"If this is the path you choose. I support you. If you do not want to do this, then don't" Syl whispered. Roisin hugged Syl back and cried.
"If I don't, this whole reality will be over" Roisin cried. "I have to" She added.
"Maybe our time here is done. If you don't want to die, I don't mind standing with you at the end of time. It is ultimately your decision, I will stand by whatever you choose" Syl said, as he hugged Roisin tightly.
"Thank you, Syl" Roisin cried into Syl's shoulder.
"You're my sister, and my best friend. I'll protect you until the end" He smiled, as the winds ble
