Chapter 80
Chapter 10
"Now that things have come to this, whether or not we release Easton is up to me. His mother came to see me today, offering one million for a settlement. Amina, what do you think?" Kaylee said sarcastically, sipping her coffee. It was clear she was trying to play both sides. I calmly took out my phone and slowly opened the video I had extracted from the surveillance footage. On the screen, Kaylee and Easton were entangled together.
"Amina, are you setting me up?" Kaylee shot to her feet, unable to sit still when she saw the video.
I gave her a cold glance and then put my phone away.
"Since you've chosen to be a pawn, you better play your part well. If I find out you have any other thoughts, I can't guarantee this video won't be exposed all over the internet. Falsely accusing someone can lead to a prison sentence of up to three years." Kaylee clenched her fists and slowly sat back down, her shoulders trembling with anger.
"What do you want from me?"
I stared at her, my expression cold.
"I want you to keep pressing charges."
The next day, as I arrived downstairs at the company, I saw a crowd gathered below. Before I could get closer, I heard my mother-in-law's voice shouting through a megaphone.
"Amina, that shameless woman, was raped in college! If it weren't for my son, who would want such a woman with a past like hers?"
I squeezed through the crowd and saw my mother-in-law standing at the base of the building, holding a sign and crying out loud. The sign clearly detailed everything about the assault I had suffered in college. The memories flooded back like a tidal wave. "My son only made the same mistake all men make! It was that woman who seduced my son first. Why should she be allowed to get him in trouble?"
My mother-in-law's words dragged my thoughts back to the present. I looked over and caught her noticing me. She quickly strode forward, grabbed my arm, and pulled me.
"She's the one! She was slept with at such a young age, and now my son is stuck with her. It's her good fortune he even married her! Yet, she's ungrateful and dares to report my son to the police and convince that woman to accuse him."
The crowd grew larger, just like when Kaylee and her friends had pushed me out of the dorm, everyone stood by, watching.
But what they didn't realize was, I wasn't the same Amina anymore.
I forcefully pulled my arm away from her grip, and she staggered, falling to the ground. Watching her clutch her chest in pain and scold me, I remained unmoved. I pulled out my phone and dialed the police.
The police arrived quickly, and my mother-in-law was detained. I also filed a lawsuit for defamation against her.
