Chapter She can talk??!!!!!
The morning approached quickly. I peeled myself off the floor. My back was hurting from laying against my bookshelf.
I am never sleeping on the floor again.
As I let out a yawn, I searched the ground around me for the black, furred dog but noticed Macy wasn’t there.
My brain went into panic.
“Macy?”
Where did she go?
I heard a silent bark.
“Macy!”
I ran downstairs, looking through all the rooms for the large dog.
She isn’t in the house. But where did she go off to?
I heard her bark again.
The hell is she doing?!
Then I heard something I have been wanting to hear for the past two days.
A person’s voice.
Their voice was distant but I heard it in my head loudly, “Hey there. Where did you come from?”
It was a girls voice that sounded caring and sweet.
I bolted outside.
“Macy! Where are you at?!”
I saw the dog run from the corner of the house across the street, her tail wagging and tongue out. She trotted to me and nudge me with her head like she wanted me to follow her. I followed her around the corner and saw a girl curled up on the ground against the trash cans.
She was about my age. Her short, blonde hair was frizzy. Her pale skin had dirt and black smears on it with a few cuts. Her clothes were pretty tattered with rips at the seams. Her eyes were bright green, almost as bright as mine, and widened when they noticed me.
Holy shit! It’s a person!
Her voice was quiet, “A-are you real?”
I smiled, “Yes... You can speak.”
Her beautiful eyes began to tear up, “I do! Yes!... Yes! I do!”
I crouched down next to her, “You don’t need to cry. It’s okay... My house is right across the street if you want to wash up. I am a little short on food, sorry.”
She wiped her face and let out a smile, “That is great. That actually sounds amazing!”
I stood up, holding out my hand for her, “Let’s get going then.”
She stared at my hand for a moment before taking it and standing up. Her eyes were sparkling and big like she has just seen the best thing in the whole world. To be honest for me she was the greatest thing to seen after the past two days.
There is an actual person I can talk to!
I took her across the street and opened the door, letting her enter first and closed the door behind us.
I chuckled when her eyes widened again while she looked around, “Welcome home!”
I can’t believe I am actually talking to someone right now!
I got lost in my train of thought then I remembered she was still standing next to me, “Oh yeah... sorry the bathroom is upstairs. I will show you and get you some clean clothes.”
“Bathro...,” She stopped herself as her eyes went dull for a second then back to their bright, green. “Sorry, never mind... I feel so stupid sometimes. It’s like I can’t remember simple things.”
She laughed it off.
“It’s okay, I understand. Here it’s this way.”
She followed me upstairs through my room and I opened the door to the bathroom for her, “Feel free to use anything you need.”
I went over to my closet and pulled out a pair of pants, a t-shirt, and a hoodie, “These will probably be really big on you but it will do.”
She took them from me and she froze for a second while her eyes turned dull, “Thank you.”
She smiled again before disappearing into the bathroom and closing the door. I sat down on my bed.
Oh my god there is a person in my a house. A girl too! Where did she even come from? How can she talk when everyone else can’t? Why do her eyes keep turning dull? Is she like me? Does she know what is happening? I don’t even know her name!
I think I am going crazy.
Get a hold of yourself Ben!
Macy was sitting on the ground by the bathroom door watching me, like she was guarding her.
Chill, I am not going to attack her in the shower. You weird dog.
The door opened, stopping all my thoughts. She stepped out of the bathroom looking like a whole different person.
Her skin was pale, like mine being almost white. Her short, blonde hair was now neat and straightened into a pixie cut. Her bright green eyes stood out even more now. The clothes as expected where very big with the sleeves of the jacket covering her hands and the bottom of the pants falling onto the floor.
She stood there for a second and looked at the ground.
Oh god, think think...
I opened my window to the balcony, “Hey, do you want to sit down?”
She looked up and nodded.
Damn, I am getting good at this social interaction stuff.
I jumped out onto the balcony and she followed. I motioned for her to sit in my chair while I sat on the window sill. I got a headache suddenly and held my head in my hands. She looked up at me with worry, “Hey are you okay?”
I managed to get out a few words, “Yeah they normally go away...”
My head began to hurt even more.
My mom was sitting on the window sill while I was reading a book, “So your birthday is coming up.”
I hummed in response.
“Well... I just figured that you might want a few more books for your library but, since you are so interested in your book instead of talking to me... I guess you don’t want them.”
I immediately dropped my book and hugged her, “No please! I am interested.”
She let out a laugh, “You will do anything for a book. Won’t you?”
I leaned back and thought for a second, “Yes!”
She laughed again, “I love you.”
“I love you too mom.”
My head decreased in the pain slowly and my nose started bleeding. I opened my eyes to see the girl holding a tissue up to me, “You get them too?”
I took the tissue and wiped my nose, “Yeah. It sucks.”
She laughed, “Yeah, I hear that. So I never asked your name?”
I laughed too, “It’s Ben. Ben Foster.”
She stopped for a second while her eyes went dull again, “Sorry I was having trouble remembering. I’m Luna.”
“Well it’s nice to meet you Luna.”
She put a big smile on her face, “Well it’s actually amazing to meet you!”
We both laughed.
Thank god I found her. I feel like a person again.
