Chapter Escape
We were both startled awake by yelling and Macy’s bark. There was an alarm going off and a red light flashing on and off making the room go from dark to red. Luna was confused as she sat up in bed and looked around, “What in the hell is going on now?”
A few people in white lab coats run past our room, their coats flying behind them. I yelled out to them, “Hey! What is going on?!”
They ignored me and kept to their course. Luna looked panicked as we both heard screams and yelling from outside. I grabbed her hand, “Don’t worry, we will figure this out.”
She nodded, breathing out but tensed up when gun fire started erupting outside.
Dr. Flora run up to the hologram turning it off, “Oh thank god, you guys are still here... We have to go! Now!”
We both jumped up, making sure Macy was with us. Luna was the first one to start asking questions as we followed Dr. Flora down the hall, “What is going on outside? Why are alarms going off?”
She looked back at us smiling, “Well someone accidently turned off one of the perimeters that was holding in that giant mob of people... Now, while everyone is being distracted by that, I am getting you out of here. But first, we have to get to the main room to find your dad’s info.”
Luna tensed up, “That means that giant mob of people are outside...”
Dr. Flora smiled again, “Yeah and they are definitely causing a distraction. No need to worry though, darlin. We are going to stay clear of them.”
Luna relaxed a bit when we got into the main room. The place was trashed though. Some tables were flipped. Broken glass was on the floor, along with papers thrown about. Lab equipment was tipped over and thrown about. Dr. Flora clapped her hands together, “Okay! now we just have to find a tablet that isn’t broken or smashed. You guys take that side of the room.”
We all began looking through the mess until Macy barked, catching everyone’s attention.
“Well, well... looks like we have found a traitor. Dr. Flora, why are they out of their cell?”
We all looked up to see Dr. Cory standing in front of the door. He must have just come in from the outside as his coat was dirtied and ripped up. One of his glasses lens was cracked looking like a spider’s web. He had a crazed look on his face, as a cut above his left eye was dripping blood down his face and into his mouth, “So how are we going to deal with this? After all we can’t let you two just waltz out of here.”
What the heck does waltz mean?
Shock.
Oh yeah... I am stupid.
Luna was confused too and I laughed, “It is a type of dance Luna.”
Her eyes flashed then she laughed too while Dr. Cory was absolutely throw off about what was happening between us.
I looked at him, “Sorry for interrupting your moment, we just had some confusion. Carry on, something about us waltzing out of here, right?”
Dr. Flora has now walked over behind us, slipped a tablet into Luna’s grasp.
Ha! I am pretty good at stalling.
Dr. Cory looked at us weird but carried on with his attempt at scaring us, “I can’t just let you leave. We have a city to save and you have to die tomorrow. I have a job to do, which is to make sure you make it until tomorrow.”
I heard Dr. Flora whisper into Luna’s ear, “Do you still have that vile?”
Luna nodded.
“Good, now just wait for Sgt. Lee.”
She nodded again and decided to snap back at Dr. Cory, “And we have a job to make it out of here. Which starts right about... now.”
Suddenly, a guard came in through the door shooting Dr. Cory in the leg with a rubber bullet. He fell to the ground, yelling out in pain. Luna ran over, taking the cap of the vile she had and held it to his nose, “Payback really is a bitch. Isn’t it?”
Damn girl.
Once he breathed in the gas his eyes closed, passing out.
The guard chuckled, “Now that was perfect timing.”
I laughed, “He will definitely be feeling that in the morning... Anyways who is the guard?”
Luna smirked, putting the cap back onto the vile again, and slipped it back up her sleeve, “Ben meet Sgt. Lee... Sgt. Lee, Ben... I told you I made a new friend.”
Sgt. Lee shifted his rifle on his chest, “Luna... the truck is ready. Let’s get you guys out of here quickly. If they find out I deserted and stole a truck, I am screwed and so are all of you.”
We all left the main room going through the hallways to a back door. A truck was waiting for us as promised and we all loaded in. Lucky, everyone was to distracted with the people out front that didn’t notice us leaving.
Finally, something is going for us.
Sgt. Lee began driving, “I have your guys’ backpack for you that you dropped during the chase. Where do you guys want to be dropped off? We don’t have much time.”
Luna laughed, knowing exactly what I was going to say.
I looked towards him, “Do you remember where you found us before we started running?”
He nodded, “Yes I do.”
“We want to go there. I have an old friend I would like to pick up.”
