The Hybrid Queen Unedited

Chapter 24

Reid had confessed to killing my mother and her Mate. He had known who my father was all along. How could I have not put that together? He had killed my mother’s Mate. My father. Only I knew nothing about him. I didn’t know what he looked like, I could not even remember seeing any pictures of a man who could look like me. So my father had been a warlock? Had he had magic in him? I rubbed my forehead with the heel of my hand. I wondered if Cal would be able to teach me more about my powers or if he was here only to teach me what he knew. I watched as Elijah spoke with him. He seemed at ease with him, as if they were lifelong friends. I sat at the base of the podium, wondering why Elijah’s father had banished him from Court to begin with. I had questions for him. I did. However I was finding it hard to think of them.My mind was still on my mother. She said she had given birth to me but that she was not my mother. What did that mean? How was that even possible? I sighed in frustration, wondering if I would ever get the answers I needed. My eyes wandered back to Cal and Elijah. They were both headed my way now. I stood up, dusting my dress off, folding my hands in front of me. Elijah stopped at my side and smiled at me. “Faye, I have brought Cal back here to teach you,” he told me. Cal smiled a wide and brilliant smile. “That is, if you will have me,” he amended. Before I could answer, an odd look came over his face and he sniffed the air. Cal suddenly stood straight, looking around the room. “What is that beautiful smell?” he demanded. I looked around, confused. All I could smell was Elijah, who was standing so close to me I could feel the heat coming off of him. I looked up at him and he was watching Cal, a puzzled look on his face. Then Amilia was walking through the doors, her head bent down over a chart, her heels clacking against the polished, amber stone floor, as she strode toward us. She stopped, suddenly, her head snapping up, as if someone had called out her name, as if she had been lost in whatever she had been looking at. Her eyes fixed on Cal and a deep blush colored her face. “Cal?” she demanded. Before anyone could say anything, Cal had Amilia in his arms and was kissing her, right there, in the middle of the room, in front of the whole Court. Lost in the kiss, Amilia dropped her clipboard to the ground and wrapped her arms around Cal. Elijah dropped my hand and was before them in a flash, a loud growl rumbling through him. Amilia broke free of Cal, her face dazed and dream-like. She mumbled something but even my wolf hearing was unable to catch it. Elijah grabbed Cal by the back of the shirt and thrust him away from Amilia, so hard he was knocked off his feet, landed on his back and slid a few feet away from where he had been standing. I was so surprised by Elijah’s sudden outburst of anger that I stumbled down the podium a few feet and stopped when Amilia turned to face her brother, her face full of anger and a loud, sharp growl slipping from her chest. Elijah’s anger faltered somewhat and he suddenly looked unsure. "Mate!” she hissed at him, teeth becoming sharp. Elijah shook his head. “You’re kidding, right?” he demanded. “How is that possible?”Amilia ignored him and turned to Cal, walking to kneel beside him. “Are you hurt?” she asked him. Cal shook his head and smiled at her, getting to his feet. He turned to face Elijah who growled at him. “Your Grace,” he said and bowed his head. “I am as surprised as you are,” he said and the look of bewilderment was clear on his face. He had not come here, looking for a Mate. He had not come here in search of anyone who could be his. Elijah growled as he came back to stand beside me. “This does not please me, Cal,” he warned. Amilia glowered at him now. “It is not up to you to be pleased, Elijah!” she reminded him. “Cal is mine. I am his. That is how the bond of mates work. You know this!” She looked pointedly at me and gave her brother a small smile. Elijah sighed and ran a hand through his hair. “Fine!” he snapped at them and they both took off down the hall, giggling like school children. I was thrilled, overjoyed for Amilia. She had found her Mate. It looked like Cal would be coming back to stay at Court. Or, if he did not want to, would he take Amilia with him? Besides Elijah, Amilia was the last of the Yansa line. It worried me a little, But I pushed the feelings of unease away. Amilia had found her Mate. I should be happy for her. I grabbed Elijah’s hand and he looked down at me. “You know that vacation we were talking about?” I asked him. I watched his emerald eyes grow dark. “Yes, I remember,” he answered.I smiled, knowing what he was thinking. “How soon could we take it?” I asked him. Elijah sighed, looking around the room. We were pretty much alone. There were two guards by the door and his mother, retreating down the hall. Gripping my hand tighter he pulled me toward the hall, leading to our room. “Elijah-” I began, wondering what he was thinking but he cut me off.“I need to feel you!” he hissed at me and bounded up the steps, pulling me behind. I had to jog to keep up with him. Elijah took the steps two at a time, and before we reached the top of the stairs he had me in his arm. He threw the bedroom door open and set me on my feet. “You need to tell me when to stop!” he reminded me as he reached for me. I smiled and nodded, letting him pull me into his arms. His mouth crashed against mine and I moaned a little as his hands ran up to my shoulders and pushed my dress aside. This seemed to excite him more. His hands wandered down my sides and then I was in his arms, bridal style, and we were headed for the bed. Elijah set me down gently and began unzipping my dress. An odd feeling of excitement bubbled in the bottom of my stomach. The dress slipped from my shoulders, pooling at my feet. I stood there in a simple black lace push up bra and a black lace thong. Elijah stepped back, his hands falling to his sides as he took me in. As I stood there, I began to feel uncomfortable. Never had he seen me like this before. Never had I been this exposed to him. He had touched me, yes, however that was in the dark. Now, with a lamp burning beside us, he was able to see me in full, the light making my pale skin look even more ghost-like. Then, ever so slowly, Elijah reached out with one finger, trailing up my arm and across my chest. He curved around the small hill of my breast, his breathing coming a little faster. My arms ached to reach for him, to use his to cover myself with however the look on his face made me stop. “You are so beautiful, the moon would be jealous,” he said, taking a step to me. I smiled a little. “I doubt that!” I said under my breath. I was not sure how I felt about this now. He had said to tell him when enough was enough, but we had been talking about our mating just a few days ago. I would be completely naked before him whenever that would take place. What if...“Mate me!” I whispered at him. Elijah leaned away from me, looking down at me. “What?” he asked me. I watched his hand go to the front of his pants. I felt a small smile creep across my face. “Are-are you sure?”I nodded and reached behind me to unhook my bra but he stopped me. “No,” he said quickly. I felt my face drop. “You don’t want me!”“Not like this! Remember when I said I wanted to take my time with you?” he asked me. I swallowed as he pushed me back onto the sheets. “Right now... I just need to feel you.” His hand ran down my middle, stopping at my belly, his eyes hooded and drowsy looking. I was surprised he was holding back the way he was. He had been begging to Mate me and now he wanted to take his time? I mean sure, he had said he wanted to take his time but for what? Elijah leaned down and pressed his mouth to my skin, his lips trailing along my shoulder. “When I take you, I want your head to be here... I want your attention all on me, in this room. No one else,” he murmured against my chilled skin. I tried to answer but his hand was trailing up and down the inside of my thigh. I swallowed and tried again. “Yes.” was all I was able to get out. I held as still as I could as he traced the curve of my neck with his lips. His hot breath was on my skin, making me wither and squirm.I sighed. I wanted my mind to be here, with him, and nowhere else. I wanted to concentrate on his hands on my body, his lips on my skin. “Faye,” Elijah mumbled against my skin. “You are too tense. You need to relax. You have had quite a day!” He pulled his face from my chest and looked up at me. “Relax!”I sighed and pushed lightly at his shoulders. Elijah leaned away, sitting back on his feet. “I’m sorry... I just feel like we are running out of time!” I said as I fiddled with my fingers. Elijah reached and took my hand. “We have time. Cal is here now and he will teach you as best he knows how,” he reminded me. I nodded again. “I know... The Elders scare me,” I said. Elijah shook his head. “There is no reason for you to fear them. They are there for me when I need advice from The Great Spirit. That is all. They hold no power over me. Or you,” he said softly. I knew that to be true, however they did not waste any time on coming here to see me. They had wanted to know if what Summer had said about me was true. They had taken their leave without really asking any questions. I wondered, after things settled down a bit, if they would return. Too bad they were not here when Reid had been caught. “What are we going to do about Reid?” I asked him. Elijah shook his head. “You are not going to do anything about it. You need to focus on getting your powers stronger,” he reminded me. “I will have to meet with the Elders again to see how best to go about this. Someone like Reid is rare. He is a threat. Depending on how big a threat he is, I am sure the whole Elder’s Clan will show up here,” he said. Elijah sighed and rolled onto his back, a hand over his eyes. “Would that be such a bad thing?” I asked. Elijah looked at me, his face drawn and tired. “It would be if they think they can overthrow me. There are some in the Clan that did not agree with what some of the Elders were seeing. The Great Spirit sent them all visions of what was to come. They all agreed that after testing, the winner would be put on the Lunar throne. Meaning, king of wolves. Some seemed to think this was a bad idea. Samuel, Michael and Luke were some of the ones who did not agree with the idea. They argued that putting me on a throne at such a young age would cause more damage then it would do good. A meeting was called, my father left to inform friendly tribes of the news and well... the rest you know,” he said. I did know the rest. “Reid was part of The Clan?” I asked. It made sense. He was hungry for power and he would take it anywhere he could get it. I still wondered why he had killed his entire tribe though. It puzzled me. He’d had power when he was leader of the tribe. “So that is why they were so sure he was dead!”Elijah nodded, his eyes closed. “Yes,” he sighed. “When The Clan got wind of the Hunters they scattered, retreated to the towers.” I nodded, my mind racing. The towers. There were books in there that would be of use to me when I started training with Cal. “Cal has magic. How is that?” I asked him. Elijah sighed. “He was adopted into the family. No one really knew of his powers or his origins until my father sent him away after he burnt half the library down. Amilia was inside. Now that I think of it, they were together a lot when we were young,” he said. “How long ago did you father send him away?” I asked. Elijah shrugged. “We were still children. It has been some years,” he answered, wrapping me in his arms. He snuggled me recklessly close. “You need to sleep! You have a big day tomorrow,” he reminded me. I sighed I knew he was right. I turned to face him and he opened his eyes to look at me. “Thank you,” I whispered. He smiled. “For what?” he laughed. I leaned down and kissed him lightly. “Everything,” I said. Elijah’s hand snaked around my arm and pulled me closer, not willing to let me go just yet. He tucked me in around him and we both drifted off into a deep slumber.
