Chapter 10
I should have known how much hell I was getting into when we pulled up to the training grounds. I had almost wanted to tell the driver to take me back to the Manor so I could go to the gym. I knew it must be empty because almost every Pack member was here. Lily and Tay were taking turns timing each other on the track field. Megan was rock climbing and other members were jumping rope, jogging in groups of five, some holding planks and others doing other various activities. I swallowed hard.“No worries, love,” Elijah whispered in my ear, making goosebumps appear onmy skin. “Just pretend it is you and me out here,” he suggested. That I could do. I turned to face him but stopped when I spotted Summer over his shoulder, watching us, a scowl on her face. “What is she doing here?” I demanded. Elijah turned to see who I was talking about and then sighed. “I ordered her release today,” he told me. I narrow my eyes at him.“Why?”Elijah sighed and placed his hands on my shoulders, stepping into my view of Summer. “Because, as annoying as she can be, Summer is one of my best trackers. She has abilities that others don’t,” he told me. I rolled my eyes. How could the Great Spirit grant her anything? She was horrible. “Abilities like what?” I asked him.
Elijah rubbed his chin. “She is a skilled tracker. She is able to see- like literally see the scent of her target. It is an easy game for her,” he told me. I had to admit. I was impressed. It was quite the gift. Elijah placed his hand under my chin and made me look at him. “She means nothing to me!” he insisted. I sighed. The thought of kissing him came to mind but there were a lot of people here. I could just do it to show Summer I was not here for playing around. I was here for Elijah. That was all I was interested in. I nodded and he smiled at me. “Elijah, I was wondering-...” I stop before I can get the words out. I did not want him to think I was trying to run. I was sure Amilia had told him by now about the doubts she thought she saw in me at times. Elijah turned back to face me. “Yes, Love?”I bit my lip and I heard him growl at me. Before I knew it, I was in his arms and he was moving to the edge of the forest and into the dark shade of the trees, out of sight from the others but surely not out of earshot. I was against a tree, with Elijah towering over his, his breathing coming a little labored. “What?” I asked him. I did not like the look in his eyes. He was making me uneasy. Elijah leaned down, his lips next to my ear. “Keep biting that lip, and I will bite it for you!” he hissed at me. His hot breath washed over my neck and shoulders. “Sorry!” I whispered back at him. Elijah groaned and then took my head in his hands. “I would like to kiss you,” he told me. I felt myself blush, the things bigger than butterflies were beating in my stomach. I wanted him to kiss me. I did. Something was stopping me though and I was not sure what it was. I sighed and pulled away from him. Elijah growled at me and pulled me back to him.
“Do not deny me this, Faye!” he pleased, his voice gruff, as if he was struggling to restrain himself. “Do you understand how painful it is, not having you next to me at night?” he asked me. I eyed him and he rolled his eyes at me. “Not like that! I told you I was giving you time. What I am saying is, it torments me that you sleep so far away from me. It kills me inside that you always seem so far away in your own mind- so far away that I sometimes fear I can not reach you because I can not see or understand what is going on in your head,” he told me. I watched him, his bright forest green eyes were so deep and full of lust in that moment I am not sure if I would have stopped myself, even if I wanted to. I reached up, touching his face. Elijah closed his eyes at my touch, the look on his face was so as of my touch gave him relief from some kind of pain. I knew and understood that pain. It was odd. We hardly knew each other yet there was this bond, this connection that was there from the moment he had set eyes on me. I leaned in, pressing myself to him and reaching up on my toes and pressed my lips to his. What neither of us were prepared for was our reaction. Elijah growled possessively at me and my back hit the tree again, his lips crushing down on mine. Elijah warped his hands around my ass and hoisted me up against the tree, wrapping my legs around him. My hands were no longer my own and my nails raked down his chest and around his back, holding him to me. Our lips melted perfectly as one, our bodies were molded into each other as if we had been sculpted to fit each other. Elijah broke away, his lips moving over my jaw and down the side of my neck. I felt his lips become harder and his hands hold me closer and tighter to his body. He was excited. I could feel him. This was not helping me at all. Heat was any day now and I had to find out where I could spend the next few days, away from the other male wolves. Elijah nipped at my neck and I shied away from him with a small giggle.
“Elijah-”He sighed and pulled away from me. “I have claimed you. I thought it had bothered you that I had not done it yet, so I did. Why do you still deny me?” he asked. By the look on his face, as soon as he spoke the words he regretted them. He laughed at himself. “I’m sorry. I do not want to seem like some hormone crazed boy. I am King and I should be acting like such and giving my Queen the space and time she needs. I’m sorry,” he said. I sighed as Amilia’s words came back to me. “But you do not have time, do you?” I asked him. Elijah leaned away from me, still holding me against the tree, my feet dangling in the air. He regarded me for a moment. “What?” he asked me, his eyebrows raised. I look down at his chest and trace a small scar on his shoulder with my index finger. “Nothing,” I tell him. Clearly Amilia had told me something she should not have and I was not about to get her in trouble. I pressed my lips together, refusing to answer. “Faye, please tell me,” Elijah said as he pressed me harder against the tree, grinding himself into me, poking me between my legs. His happy helper down there was... standing at attention. Elijah shifted just a little bit more and I could almost feel him poking me in a sensitive spot between the thin workout shorts that separated us. I gasped and my hands flew to his shoulders. “OK!” I told him and he leaned down to press his lips to my neck again. “Amilia said you had contenders for your crown! That you needed to mate, marry and breed your Luna as soon as you could secure your reign as King!” I gasp. Elijah dropped me to the forest floor. I landed lightly on my feet and watched him as he turned away from me. He was angry now. I could not help it. I was angry too. He had just dropped me. High and dry. I blush. What had I expected? For us to mate right here while the rest of the Pack was just a few hundred yards away?
“I will not not have you rush into something you are not ready for!” he said. “You are still looking for something to grasp, something to hold onto to keep you falling into the darkness of the pain of losing your family!” he told me.
I blink a little confused. “What are you saying?” I demanded.
Elijah sighed and turned to face me now. “What I am saying is that I will not mate or wed you before you are ready! I refuse to have you rush into this just to save me!” he told me.
I sighed. “I get that, but if other tribes are to rise against you-”
“I have seven years for that, Faye,” he reminded me. ”We have seven years for that!”I watched him stalk off back towards the camp. I sighed and followed him, looking for Amilia and Tay. They were nowhere to be seen. Where had they gone. I had angered Elijah and now I was sure he was going to be angry with me while training. I smiled to myself. Elijah had not seen my powers in action and no one knew that I had been practicing in the library. Elijah was walking back over to me with a weight ball tucked under one arm. I took a deep breath, bowing my head and made my shadow self appear in a poof of black silky smoke behind him. “Elijah!” I called out. He turned to face me. “Here catch!” he said and threw the ball at me. I tried to catch the ball but it was heavier than I expected. It knocked the wind out of me and I was slammed back into my own body, vanishing on the spot with a deep poof, bringing the ball with me. Elijah stood there for a moment, looking around to see where I had gone. When he saw me, he rushed over to me and helped me to my feet. “What the hell was that?” he demanded.
I groaned ignoring his offered hand and dropped the heavy ball to the grass. There were other pack members looking at us now, some jogging over to help. I politely declined help and they went about their training. “Faye?” Elijah demanded. I huffed out a breath and got to my feet. I could feel the fractured ribs already healing. “I was trying to show you my ability. I figured it could come in handy during a fight or something,” I told him. Elijah just looked at me as if I was crazy.“Why on earth would you need to fight anyone?” he demanded of me. I looked up at him now, confused. He looked angry. “You just said-”He cut me off quickly. “You are my Luna. My Queen. I will not have you fight in battles!” he said as if to put an end to the argument. I crossed my arms at him. “Then why am I here?” I demanded.“Why did you bring me here to the training grounds when I am never going to fight?” I demanded.Elijah glared at me. His eyes were cold and he breathed out hard through his nose. “Fine,” he said coldly. “Summer!” he called. I gaped at him. He was going to make me train with her? I nodded to myself, a plan already forming in my mind. I could do this and impress Elijah, the whole pack that was here right now and teach Summer a lesson. I felt a smirk form on my lips. She had no idea what she was in for. Summer laughed and shook her head. “Your Grace, please, I would crush her in an instant! She needs training,” she said. Elijah did not look at her when he spoke. He kept his eyes on me. “Well, then you have nothing to worry about, right?” he said. I nodded. I could do this. I knew I could. Summer shrugged as an evil grin spread across her face. “Fine by me,” she said and walked toward me. “Get ready because I am about to kick your ass into next week!” she said and swung her fist at me. Summer blinked as her fist ran right through my body. She tried again. I smiled at her. She had no idea. I watched her as she began looking around the ground. Then I remember what Elijah had told me. She could see people’s scent’s. She was looking for mine.
I decided to tease her a little. My shadow self moved and gripped her arm, spinning her around to face me. Summer growled at me and tried to punch me again. The two best things about this power was one, I could only be touched if I wanted to be, while in shadow self, and second, I had learned how to duplicate myself. I made a second form of myself appear behind her. “Looking for me?” I asked her. Summer screamed in rage and swung out at me. I side stepped her then kicked her in the side as hard as I could, both of my shadow doubles vanishing on the spot. “This is not fair!” Summer wailed at Elijah. “Looks fair to me,” Tay said as she crossed her arms. Summer turned back to face me and ran at me. I side stepped her once more and cracked my elbow into her back. Summer went down into the dusty dirt path with a grunt. She lay there for a moment before I reached down to help her up. She smacked my hands away and jumped to her feet. She pulled a silver dagger from her boot and swung it at me. “Silver? Really, Summer?” Tay demanded. Elijah took a step forward. “Kings Guard!” he ordered. Summer ignored the threat of her king and flipped the dagger in her hand. “Come at me, bitch!” she said. I felt my body go into a defensive crouch. “Elijah is mine and he always will be!” she hissed at me, her eyes rimmed with tears. I watched her. She was losing it. Did she really think that fated wolves could just resist the bond of mates? Did she really think that they could ignore the pull? There was no such thing as rejection. If a mate was rejected, they both would die. The heart would just die off, killing them both. I growled at her and forced four of my shadow self’s from my body. I watched as Summer’s face fell. She flipped the dagger a few times and then threw one at one of me. It passed through me and that shadow vanished on the spot. Summer growled out and I could see her shift coming on fast. I smiled at her.
“So you wanna play games, bitch?” she snapped at me.
Before anyone could do anything, Summer stripped naked right there in front of everyone and then she was on all fours, a blond, sleek looking wolf. She growled at me and then lunged for me. Sadly the wrong me. She attacked another shadow me and then there was only tow left. Little did she know of the tricks I knew. I knew Elijah would be impressed and would be amazed at what was about to happen. Amilia was next to Elijah now.
“Stop them, Eli! Faye is going to get hurt” she was saying.
“Quite!” he hissed at her.
I was glad he had faith in me. I turned my attention back to Summer who lunged at me as soon as I looked at her. She had gotten the right one. Perhaps I had given myself away when I had looked at Elijah. I laughed at her before she could reach me. When she made contact with me I exploded in a deep purple-ish black smoke and my last shadow self vanished too. It was only a split second when I reappeared behind Summer, mid air and kicked her in the shoulder. I landed on my feet slightly wobbly, suddenly not so sure of my balance. She whined and went down quickly and I glared at her. “Let it go, Summer” I warned her, nausea creeping up on me. She growled at me but then limped away into the woods. I smiled to myself but then my head felt like it was going to suddenly split open. I gasped and clapped a hand to my forehead. Pain lanced through the side of my head and I felt dizzy. Someone was calling my name and there were strong hands on my shoulders. I turn to see Elijah and Amilia beside me. I reach up and touch my lips. When I pull my hand away it is covered in blood. What was going on? Did Summer get a hit in and I didn’t notice it? Odd. I looked up at Elijah again who was shaking his head and speaking to me but his voice seemed muffled. Amilia looked worried. What was going on?
“Faye?” Elijah said in my ear as he bent closer to me. “Doctor Larson is on his way. He can help you!” he was telling me. I sighed. I didn’t need a doctor. I just needed rest. Amilia was leaning into her brother and was telling him about my abilities and that I had not really used them much since before I got to the pound. He growled and looked back down at me as a strange man appeared next to him, a large leather bag in his hand.“What did she do?” he demanded as he leaned over me. I knew him from somewhere. I knew his face. I was not sure from where. I struggled against him as he reached for my arm. He looked up at Elijah and Elijah held my arm down as Larson stuck me with a needle. I gasped in surprise but my head cleared almost as soon as I felt it. I turned my attention to Larson who was fumbling with a stethoscope. I knew him.Once I realized who he was and where I had seen him I let out a long drawn out scream.
