The Heiress’ Hidden Alliance

Chapter 46

Chapter 46 Pretending Not To Know

Standing in the middle, Matthew exuded an air of intimidation.

It made people fear meeting his gaze or harboring any contempt.

After sweeping his gaze around, he seemed to have made a decision to redevelop the plot of land.

“Is that… Matthew Quigley? Wow, we’re really lucky! If I weren’t married and only had eyes for my husband, I would have been tempted.” Nancy’s eyes sparkled as she stared at Matthew.

Suddenly, something came to mind.

She immediately turned to Aurelia. “Since you and Curtis have broken up, why don’t you consider working at Quigley Group? Then, try to win over Matthew and become his wife. If you marry into the Quigley family, your biological parents will surely regret their past actions. Also, look at Matthew’s physique. Everyone might be wearing suits, but he wears it the best. I bet he has a six–pack and a V–line, and those legs look so straight and strong. You’re absolutely stunning in terms of beauty. If you play your cards right and use a bit of charm, he might just fall for you.”

Aurelia looked at Nancy, who was lost in her fantasies, and didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. She was on the verge of blurting out that not only did she know Matthew, but they were also married.

However, having agreed to a secret marriage with Matthew, she decided to pretend not to know him.

“Even if I were to stand naked in front of him, he wouldn’t spare me a second glance. Let’s just quietly enjoy our barbecue, Aurelia asserted.

Nancy was relentless in her daydreaming. “If you were completely naked, even I would be seduced, let alone a man. All you need to do is strip down and lie on the bed. Any man would lose control of himself. Even if he were gay, he would be turned straight.”

“Your attention on me seems a bit intense. Does your significant other know about this?” Aurelia teased.

Nancy chuckled, stopping herself from daydreaming any further. How could Auri and Matthew possibly progress to the stage I have imagined? They don’t even know each other. Even if Auri really could get a job at Quigley Group, she and Matthew would be like two parallel lines, never intersecting. They are just worlds apart.

When she mentioned her husband, she made a face and said, “I should have gone out with you yesterday. He had a pile of work at the company yesterday and didn’t come home until the wee hours of the morning. It was a shame that all the dishes I prepared had gone cold. Alright, enough about me. Let’s talk about you. What are your plans for the future? Curtis has been looking for you everywhere. He even called me. Are you going to waver and forgive him?”

“No.”

Aurelia dropped the beef onto the grill, her eyelashes concealing the cold glint in her eyes.

“Hmm… I think Matthew seems to be looking at you,” Nancy said, her excitement palpable as she noticed. Matthew’s gaze sweeping over from outside the window.

Aurelia lifted her eyes and looked over.

She happened to make eye contact with Matthew.

The two of them were like they had exchanged some secret code. After that one glance, they calmly averted their gazes as if nothing happened.

“You’ve made a mistake.” Aurelia said.

Nancy murmured, “The way he looked at you just now seemed like surprise, and it was as if he recognized you. But you two don’t know each other, so I must have made a mistake. Let’s eat. It’s been a long time since we last came. Just the smell alone brings back old memories.”

While eating, Aurelia joked, “I remember you telling me that when you were little, your dream was to become a police officer, right?”

“Yup.”

“I feel that you had a talent for it.”

It’s a pity that Nancy isn’t a police officer, given how accurately she discovered that Matthew knows me.

How did you know? When I expressed my intention to join the police academy, my entire family was against it. Later, seeing how busy the police officers were, I realized there probably wouldn’t be much time for romance. For Justin, I gave up on that idea.” Nancy’s voice was tinged with a hint of regret

Outside the door, Matthew was somewhat surprised when he saw Aurelia

She was very relaxed when she was with her friends.

When he saw her pretend not to recognize him, his face turned somewhat somber.

A few supervisors, who were reporting on the progress of their work, noticed the deepening frown on Matthew’s face. Their hearts pounded nervously and they immediately began to speak with even more

caution.

Just moments ago, Gordon hadn’t noticed anything unusual. But now, he suddenly spotted the only group of customers in the barbecue restaurant. To his surprise, one of them was none other than Aurelia.

What a coincidence to run into her!

He surreptitiously observed Matthew’s expression, which was indeed quite frightening.

Could it be that Mr. Quigley and Ms. Shaw are arguing? Upon seeing her now, Mr. Quigley is still somewhat angry? Although I hadn’t spent much time with Ms. Shaw, she seems to be a very easygoing person. Could it be that Mr. Quigley is upset because of the photos he previously sent

After Aurelia and Nancy finished eating, Nancy insisted on taking Aurelia to a nice place.

She said she wanted to show Aurelia what kind of man was a real man.

The two had just gotten into the car when Nancy’s phone rang.

“Hubby?”

“Mom isn’t feeling too well, could you please check on her? I’m currently on a business trip in Huxville and can’t return for now,” said Justin over the phone.

Nancy frowned. “You went

to Huxville?”

“I arrived there this morning. I’ll be back the day after tomorrow.” Justin’s tone was somewhat indifferent, briefly stating his itinerary before hanging up the phone.

Nancy stared at the disconnected call, somewhat lost in thought.

Realizing that Aurelia was by her side, she came back to her senses and said apologetically, “I can’t make it today. Auri.”

“Let’s go again next time. I’ll take you home now.” Aurelia noticed a change in Nancy’s mood.

This particular phone call had evidently left the usually cheerful Nancy feeling somewhat downcast.

She had met Nancy’s husband, Justin Hoffman, before. The couple had known each other since childhood, growing up together in a large compound. Although Justin’s family had prospered over time, creating some disparity in their family backgrounds, they had been childhood sweethearts. Justin, being three years older than Nancy, had always taken good care of her.

Therefore, the two got married after Nancy graduated.

Whatever conflict they had was probably minor squabbles between husband and wife.

After dropping Nancy off at her home, Aurelia noticed that the mall was still open, so she went and bought two sets of men’s clothing.

She happened to pass by Xavier’s dormitory, so she brought the clothes to him.

As it turned out, he was very busy that day and wasn’t in his dorm. So, she sent him a message and left his clothes with the security guard at the entrance of the dorm. He could then pick them up once he was done with his work

As she reached the parking lot and was about to get in the car, her wrist was suddenly seized by someone.

“Auri. you already know what transpired. I too am a victim. It was Winona who had a crush on me and persistently pursued me. Those photos of yours from before, as well as the videos circulating online, they’re all fake. After her plastic surgery, Winona looked remarkably like Melanie. From a distance, people sometimes mistook them for twins. I don’t agree on breaking up. I haven’t done anything wrong.”

Aurelia looked at the shameless Curtis. “Let

  1. go.
