Chapter 107
Meredith recuperated in the hospital for a few more days.
This time, she was no longer in a hurry to get out of the hospital. She had encountered several accidents in succession, which made her very scared after those accidents. She could feel more at ease in the hospital.
These days, Derek was also very busy and didn't seem to have time to visit her.
Meredith guessed that perhaps Nova's fall made him anxious, so he didn't have time to come over and take a look at her.
Perhaps, he was also resentful of her. Derek had clearly wanted to save Nova, but he had been fooled by those people and saved Meredith.
After thinking for a while, Meredith also planed to see the condition of Nova. Although what she had done boomeranged, she paid the price by falling from such a high place.
Meredith asked the nurse and quickly found Nova's ward.
"Mom, what should I do? My legs!" Nova was sobbing.
After a period of treatment, Nova's lumbar nerves were found to have damaged, and some hidden diseases would exist in her legs. Although Derek had found the best doctor to treat her, she could not recover completely.
She was destined to be disabled in the future.
Meredith was a little scared when she heard about this. If she had fallen at that time, she would have been worse than Nova.
Thinking about it, Meredith made a decision to leave Derek as soon as possible.
Ever since Derek had woken up from the hospital bed, he had been trying his best to expand the business of Xavier Group. And he was hardhanded and usually brought precise crushing blows to the competitors.
This style antagonized too many people.
Meredith thought that similar things might happen again if she was around him. This time, she was lucky. What about the next time?
Even for the sake of her fetus, she didn't dare to take the risk.
After making the decision, Meredith waited here. After a long time, Derek came. When he saw her, he frowned, "Why are you here?"
She was not fully recovered. Why did she run around?
Meredith glanced at Nova's ward behind her and thought that Derek was afraid of causing Nova to misunderstand.
So Meredith took a few steps and looked at Derek, "I have something to say.”
Meredith found an empty corner, "I want to leave Xavier Group."
Derek's frown tightened, "What?"
"I'm afraid of danger. I can't let my fetus take risk.”
Meredith said in a determined tone.
On the one hand, Derek would easily bring danger. On the other hand, she just heard about Nova's condition. Nova would definitely hate her for the sequela.
Meredith didn't want to involve herself in such a complicated situation, so the best way was to leave.
Derek looked at her eyes, "This will never happen again.”
"But I don't want to take any risk," Meredith insisted.
"It's safer if you stay by my side.”
Derek didn't want to back down either. He couldn't allow Meredith to be out of his sight.
It was impossible for her to stay with another man.
Seeing that he was so stubborn, Meredith could not help but clench her fists, and the anger that had accumulated in her heart exploded, "Safe? That means you don't hesitate to not consider my safety?”
If it weren't for those thugs who didn't keep their word, she would have been the one in the ward now!
Only then did Derek realize that he never seemed to explain the reason for that choice. Just as he was about to say something, Meredith waved her hand impatiently, "I just want to ask when I can leave. I want nothing but staying away from you."
Meredith's undisguised resistance made Derek extremely angry.
"Stay away from me? Meredith, I won't agree. You can only stay by my side for the rest of your life!" When they were arguing, Nova's mother came over and said, "Mr. Xavier, my daughter knows that she may have a sequela. Now she wants to end her own life. Please do something about it!"
When Meredith heard this, she thought she had better stop arguing with Derek. She took a step back, "In that case, you should go and see her. I'm serious. Please think about my words carefully.” After that, Meredith left.
Derek watched her leave without hesitation and angrily kicked over the trash can not far away. This woman really knew how to go against him.
Meredith returned to the ward, not in a good mood.
Derek's stubbornness made her angry, but she just didn't have the strength to contend against him. However, she did not want to let others decide her life and death again.
With that in mind, Meredith couldn't even eat lunch.
Derek calmed Nova down. He owed her in this matter, so he tried his best to help.
"I will send you abroad for the best treatment, and you don’t have to worry about the cost.”
Nova was a little moved when hearing this, "Then, will you come and see me? Mr. Xavier, can you leave a place for me by your side, I..."
"This is not what you should think."
Derek didn't answer, but obviously, the answer in his heart was no.
The only thing he could do was to get Nova well treated and give her a sum of money so that she could live comfortably for the rest of her life.
He couldn't promise anything else.
Nova was a little disappointed, but Derek did not comfort her anymore. He walked out and glanced at Meredith's ward.
He had intended to accompany Meredith after sending Nova to another hospital abroad, but when he thought of what she had said today, he perished the thought.
He told Damian on the side, "Go see what's going on with her and report to me."
Damian curled his lips. He thought Derek clearly wanted to know her condition and Derek could just walk a few steps and see that himself.
But of course, he couldn't disobey Derek's order, so he had to go
Then the nurse told Damian that Meredith didn't have a good lunch today. She just ate a few mouthfuls and seemed to be in a bad mood.
Damian frowned and walked in, only to find Meredith sitting on the bed in a daze. Her slender body was covered in a wide hospital gown, which was agonizing.
"Miss Mason, is there anything bothering you? Are you worried that there will be a danger in the future? Don't worry, I've already dealt with that matter. Such things will never happen again.” Damian comforted her. And Meredith shook her head, "I'm fine."
But she didn't look fine.
Damian looked at her a few times and suddenly thought of something. That day, Derek seemed to intend to explain something to Meredith, but he forgot after being interrupted.
After thinking for a while, he asked tentatively, "Miss Mason, are you unhappy because Mr. Xavier didn't choose to save you that day?"
