Chapter Alpha King
Max POV
Ares was like a beast tackling all the disgusting rogues. How dare they try to invade our borders. We never had problems with rogues before. Satisfaction filled my body every time he killed one, and I knew it was coming from Ares. He hated rogues.
Terry’s voice came on the mindlink. “Alpha, should we not raise the alarm?” Ares answered him quickly. They all knew Ares was in charge while fighting. “No, Beta Terry, those rogues will be all dead before the ones who can’t fight would get into the safe room.”
There were only so many rogues, but Ares pushed hard to get everything over quickly. He was antsy to get back to bed with the little wolf. Suddenly we felt fear and pain without anyone attacking us, and I knew where it was coming from. “Julie,” I told Ares, and he said. “Mate is in trouble.”
Ares released a feral growl louder than ever before, shaking the ground, and the rogues fell to their knees. He howled to the moon to let the warriors know to finish them off and took off running. He started to sniff the air while running. “Where is she, Ares?” He increased the pace. We needed to find out where she was. There was no scent to go on, but I had not felt her crossing the border. “We should move around. I can’t smell her, Max.”
We moved around for a while, and finally, Ares picked up a faint scent and ran towards it, following his instincts. And when my eyes picked up the brown wolves and the disgusting smell. My head went back to the book. The same brown wolves were trying to attack the little one. Ares was unstoppable, increased his pace, and tackled them all before they could touch their filthy paws on her.
Ares shifted back but did not give me control back, and I let it make him happy. He broke the logs, protecting her and squatted down near her body, smiling at her. He pulled her closer and kissed all over her face. “You scared me, little one.” I could feel all his love for her. The mate bond pulsed with happiness calming her. She was trembling. Julie groaned in pain, and her eyes glowed pink. “You came from me, my love. I knew you would.”
Ares laughed and kissed Aphrodite. It had so much passion, and when they stopped, she said. “Julie is in pain. Her shoulder is broken. You need to fix it before it starts to heal.” I could feel her tiredness and the coldness of her body. Her clothes were all dirty and wet. “Ares, let me take over. You will hurt her more.”
This time he did not complain. He knew it would be best if I fixed Julie. We concentrated on the pain taking it from her, and I put her shoulder back in place to heal, and I heard Aphrodite’s tired voice. “Good job, handsome.” When I looked at her, she was asleep. I rubbed the dirt from her face and smiled. I was happy we had found her in one piece. Grabbing her in my arms, I carried her back to our room.

Jordan POV
I woke up and could hear howls and the chaos far from the pack house. But I did not hear the alarm going off. Were we being attacked? I got my dressing gown, mindlinked Robbie and headed to the Witch’s room. She could get us out of here fast if someone were attacking. We needed to go to Vermont to find what I had been looking for, for many years.
When we got inside the Witch’s room, she was chanting in a circle of candles. I looked at Robbie, and he smiled, happy to comply. He hated Witches.
With one push, she flung, hitting the wall, and before she could react with magic, Robbie grabbed her neck with his claws piercing it. I got closer and asked. “Is that you creating chaos outside? If Maximus found out, we all be dead because he would think we put you up to it. You have no idea what kind of things I have witnessed that his wolf is capable of.”
With much difficulty, she moved her head to look at me. “Vermont will not give you what you are looking for. They cannot help you become an Alpha king. But Maximus can.” I looked at Robbie, and he eased her leash.
I narrowed my eyes. This bitch knows too much. “How do you know about Vermont and my plans?”
“My mate is an Omega, and Kell promised if I helped the council for a while, he would allow cross-breeding. That is how he is keeping me at the council. Kell has my mate in the pack cells; I know he would never allow it and was lying to me. I did not come willing to work for the council and needed a way out. You are ambitious, and I started to watch you and your plans. I felt how jealous you are of Maximus.”
“The Witch in Vermont is powerful, but I never felt a power like Maximus. He knew what I would do to his mate before I did it. Vermont can help you, but Maximus will take you out when he finds out you betrayed the council to become an Alpha King. His wolf will never bow to you. You need him first, then the Witch.”
I looked at Robbie. He was on my side because I promised him he would be my General. He thought we would be fighting more wars when he joined the council and was tired of the diplomacy. Robbie was stronger than any Alpha, but nothing compared to Maximus, and the Witch could be right. “Robbie will kill you if you are lying to me, Melissa. Now, tell me, what do you want? And why is there chaos outside?”
“I want to be free with my mate without anyone taking us apart. I will help and work with the Witch from Vermont to get what you want. The chaos outside is a distraction. I enchanted rogues to attack the western border to take Maximus away from the pack house. I am intrigued about his mate and wanted to find out before presenting the opportunity to you. There is something about her, they were trying to hide, but I can feel something.”
Robbie looked at the Witch and, smiling, asked. He loved chaos. “What is your plan? If it is to grab the pretty little Omega. I am more than happy to do so. Would love to have some fun with her to make the cocky Maximus feel pain.”
Melissa shook her head. “No! We can’t take her from him now. We need to make sure they are mated before taking her. We need his strength to our advantage. Your kind gets more strength after they are mated to a fated mate. Jordan, with Maximus and the Blue Moon doing the work, every pack will have to accept you as an Alpha king, and the remained council will not be able to recruit packs against you.”
I like the way she thinks. I knew Maximus would be a problem in my plans and asked. “You need the little Omega after the mating, then?” If someone were going to have fun with that pretty little thing, it would be me. She would be a perfect Queen. “If we have her, we control Maximus. You saw how possessive he was, and he would not want anything to happen to her.”
I smirked at her. “Robbie will take your mate from the pack cells. As a gesture of generosity, I am going to let him be with you. But I will grant the cross-breeding only after you get what I want. I want to be an Alpha King, and I want everybody to fear my wolf as they do Maximus’.”
She smiled like she had won the best prize in the world. Fated mates only make us weak that was why I rejected mine. If they die after the mark, we die too, and there is also the constant worry that something will happen to our other half. “I will need a Queen, and the little wolf will be perfect for the job. I want you to find a way to take away Maximus’ mark when the time comes. After Maximus gets me what I want, I want him weak, and we will take his pack.”
Robbie grinned, and I knew it was his dream to be a general of a pack full of skilled warriors like the Blue Moon. With them, we would be invincible, and no one would dare cross us. Every wolf would bow and obey us as they do Maximus.
I could feel the concern coming from Melissa. “Taking a mark and destroying a mate bond is very dangerous. That is dark magic, and she could die in the process.”
I narrowed my eyes at her. She might have presented me with a better way to get what I wanted, but I had to show her I was in charge. “Your job now is to get what I want, Witch. You will have to find me another pretty wolf as a replacement if she dies. Besides, if that happens is because she is too weak and would not deserve to be my Queen. It would be no waste if she died as Maximus would die too, and our problems would be solved.”
I moved my head to the messy circle of candles. “Now, return to your job and search for answers. If you are intrigued about her, we must go to Woodland. Michael will have answers for you. He is her uncle.”
Robbie and I sat on the sofa, watching her work. We could not trust her, yet she needed to prove useful. After an hour, she said she could not feel the little Omega anymore, and I knew we were wasting time there and should leave for Woodland.
We packed everything and left Maximus’ territory. I did not want to see him at breakfast if he had figured out it was the Witch’s doing. After nearly the whole day of driving, we arrived at the Woodland, and I hated it there. They were too pacified like Ferdinand and had no ambitions. Well, apart from Michael. He was ambitious but stupid and lazy.
He was awaiting us at the pack entrance with a smile. I bet he thought I was bringing back his little Omega. His smile faded as soon as he did not see her getting out of the car. “Jordan, I thought you were bringing my Omega back when you called me.”
I hugged him. “Long time no see, my friend. Let’s go inside and talk business.” We got inside his office, and he did not invite his Beta to this conversation. Nobody knew what he had done to get that seat. I looked around and knew he had to be beneficial to me now, and it was time to collect the debt.
“You owe me, Michael. I did not help you kill your brother to become this lazy Alpha. You promised this pack would be stronger if I helped you and would back me up when the time came. I only see useless wolves running around and Maximus’ men coming to fix your problems.”
“Jordan, we are friends, and you know a strong pack takes time to build.” His face got white. He knew he did not do anything we had agreed many years ago. “No, Michael, you are only useless, but you will serve me in another capacity. You lied to me about the claim that Omega is your niece. Tell me the truth, or Robbie will kill you now. Why do you want her if you were only hurting her?”
He sat back and rubbed his forehead. “It is my wolf. He wants her.” That was news to me. He told me a different story before. “You told me your wolf wanted her mother. That is why I helped you kill your brother.”
“My wolf started to get obsessed with my sister-in-law when she got pregnant. He didn’t want her. He wanted the pup inside her. That is how he killed her so easily when she did not accept staying my Luna. He was going to kill her anyway once Julie came of age. And she had just turned 18 when Maximus took her.”
I laughed at the news. If Michael’s wolf were obsessed with the little Omega, he would do anything I wanted. If I manipulated him right, he would do what I wanted to get her, and Maximus would not even smell my scent near his mate. This trip to hell might not be a waste after all.
Now you know about Jordan’s plans, as he was not gifted like Maximus by the Moon Goddess. He is envious of what Maximus has and wants to create it himself and become an Alpha King.
