Chapter For the King of Wolves
Morgan gets up early and goes to the work out chamber of the castle. Something tells him he needs to be there. When he arrives, he finds Eugéne working out alone, punching a punching bag. He stops and watches the little page for a while. Eugéne doesn’t let the punching bag punch him back this time. He works at it furiously.
“Eugéne... Don’t over do it...” Morgan says.
Eugéne stops the bag from swinging and turns to face Morgan. Morgan realizes something is wrong by the redness around Eugéne’s eyes.
“Eugéne... What... What has happened...?” Morgan asks.
“King Silverous is dead...” Eugéne says, “If I wasn’t so loyal to King Rosen I would have let him go free and he wouldn’t have died...”
“Oh... This isn’t your fault...” Morgan says.
He stoops to hug the young boy.
“It could have happened to any of us... You weren’t the only one who stood guard of the wolf...” Morgan says.
“I saw Silverous’s spirit... He told me to keep working and training for King Rosen... I am doing this for the king of wolves...” Eugéne says.
“You probably stayed up too long last night... Spirits don’t wander this realm,” Morgan says, ruffling Eugéne’s hair.
“I saw him! I know I did!” Eugéne says.
“I saw him too,” King Rosen says.
He walks into the room and both Eugéne and Morgan bow before him.
“It is my fault and my fault alone he died. Though I do regret being so rough with him, I cannot let his people out of slavery. This institution is a necessary evil. Our kingdom has thrived using them as free manual labor,” King Rosen says.
“Your Majesty, I am your loyal servant. Is there something you want me to do?” Eugéne asks.
“Here’s the keys to the dungeon. Take the body and burry it so that I have room for other prisoners,” King Rosen says.
He tosses a set of keys to Eugéne. The young boy begins to cry, but obediently follows the command of his king.
“Y-y-yes... Your Majesty...” Eugéne says.
Eugéne leaves at once to begin his task.
“You’re training a page as a squire, Morgan?” King Rosen asks.
“He begged for it...” Morgan says.
“Do not let him use a sword. Kids his age shouldn’t be allowed near swords,” King Rosen says.
“Why not, Your Majesty?” Morgan asks.
King Rosen gives Morgan a pained look.
“Swords are only to be handled by those who know how to not kill their mentors...” King Rosen says.
Morgan stared after his king as he walked out of the room.
