Chapter 6
Chapter 6
“Dad, 1–I heard that you’re not getting along well with the newly arrived Sheriff Longley. Is it true?”
“Auri!” Michael furrowed his brows. “This is a matter related to my work. You’re just a child, so don’t concern yourself with these things!”
“Dad! How can I not be concerned? You’re my dad! Dad, do you remember Channing?”
“Speaker Moore’s son?”
Michael thought momentarily and hesitated before asking, as it had been quite a few years, and he wasn’t sure if it was him.
Aurelia nodded quickly. “Yes, it’s him. He pursued me in high school, but when I went abroad, we lost contact… A few days ago, we unexpectedly met again, and he told me something. Sheriff Longley’s hometown is in the capital!”
“So what?”
Michael’s heart skipped a beat, but he maintained a calm expression on his face as he looked at his daughter.
“Dad, don’t pretend to be composed in front of me. Your work always emphasizes taking sides. Speaker Waltz has been in Navarre for so many years. He has many qualifications and significant authority. There’s nothing wrong with that. But he is getting older, Dad. At most, he’ll finish this term and won’t have the possibility of moving up anymore! Dad, you’re still young!”
In reality, due to her rebirth, Aurelia was well aware that shortly after her father was arrested, Christopher Waltz was brought down by another matter.
However, she couldn’t tell Michael these things right now.
“Channing told you to say these words, right?”
Michael didn’t doubt his daughter for a moment. He wondered how she could speak so maturely, and it must have been Speaker Moore’s son who taught her.
Aurelia had expected this and specifically used Channing’s name to say these things because she wanted her father to think that way.
After all, in her previous life, she was truly a princess sheltered in the ivory tower who knew nothing.
“Dad, it doesn’t matter who taught me these words. I only know that you’re in a very dangerous situation now! I’m afraid you’re being manipulated, Dad!”
“Okay, Auri. I understand. I will think carefully about it, so don’t worry!” Michael seemed to be swayed by her words.
After experiencing so many years on the political scene, he knew the importance of taking sides.
However, the newly appointed Yves, who suddenly emerged, was too young, and Michael didn’t have a favorable impression of him in terms of political acumen or interpersonal skills.
Before Yves suddenly emerged, Navarre had already changed two sheriff’s in succession. Christopher had hinted to Michael that when the time was right, he would recommend to the higher–ups for Michael to move up and officially become the sheriff.
Based on these factors, Michael repeatedly ignored Yves‘ attempts to befriend and recruit him. He had decided to stand firmly on Christopher’s side.
But now, his daughter brought news about Yves‘ background. He was possibly someone from the capital.
This forced Michael to reevaluate his positioning.
Chapter 6
Aurelia had experienced two lifetimes, and even though she had limited worldly experience in her previous life, she was very familiar with and understood every expression of Michael.
Moreover, even though she was younger now, she was not inferior to her father in terms of psychological understanding.
Seeing Michael’s hesitation and persuadable expression, she had a clear understanding.
If there was enough time, reaching this point would be sufficient as a reminder.
However, the trajectory of history wouldn’t change much.
Tomorrow, Marcellus would divorce her, and the day after tomorrow, her father would be taken away by the Office of State Inspector General.
If her father didn’t take immediate remedial measures, it would be too late.
She must put in more effort!
Aurelia secretly pinched her waist. Her tears, which had been flowing incessantly, surged again due to the pain.
“Dad…”
“Hey! Auri, why are you still crying? I promised that I would be careful, didn’t I?”
“Dad, did you move some money to Marcellus‘ company?”
Aurelia cried terribly, and Michael’s expression immediately turned serious.
“Auri, did Marcellus tell you this? Or-”
“Would he tell me? Dad, I know you’re helping Marcellus‘ family against your principles because of me. But did you think. about the consequences if this matter becomes known? You will be in a very difficult situation! It will be impossible to explain then!”
“Auri, it’s not as serious as you think. It’s just a small amount of money. If you’re really worried, I will find a way to pay back in a few days.”
“Dad, you still don’t understand. It’s not about the amount of money. Once this matter is found out and used against you, it will provide an opportunity for others to tarnish your reputation!”
“Auri!”
Michael became cautious and serious due to his daughter’s tears and anxiety.
“Auri, tell me, who told you about this?”
“Dad, please don’t ask anymore. All I can say is that there are higher–ups who are paying attention to you. Dad, take advantage of the fact that irreversible consequences haven’t occurred yet. Quickly close all the loopholes in the next two days.”
“Auri… But what about Marcellus?”
Michael realized what was happening when he saw his daughter like this. Aurelia couldn’t possibly know about these things without someone like Channing telling her. It was impossible to receive such information that he, in his position, didn’t even know about.
Otherwise, his daughter, who had no interest in or understanding of the political scene, wouldn’t suddenly rush back, crying and urgently urging him to resolve such a matter.
Could it be that Yves was really using his connections to target him?
“Don’t worry about Marcellus‘ side, Dad! I haven’t even settled the scores with him yet! Can’t the Francois family’s massive conglomerate handle this small funding issue? He’s harming you, Dad!” As she said that, Aurelia intentionally showed a disappointed and annoyed expression, stomping her foot.
