Chapter 47
“Aurelia, stop messing around. I’m showing you my respect by coming to pick you up How much longer will you keep causing a scene?”
“What? Marcellus, you’re such a joke! Who’s causing a scene here? Who has the patience to argue with you? Who do you think you are? Let me say it again, let go of me right now, or don’t blame me for not being polite!”
“Aurelia, you…”
Marcellus suddenly stiffened, as if he didn’t expect Aurelia’s attitude to be so strong and uncompromising, whether on the phone or face–to–face.
“What happened to Aurelia? How did her temperament change so drastically?”
Aurelia forcefully pulled her arm out of his grip, raised her chin high, and looked at Marcellus with a contemptuous and disappointed gaze as she spoke.
“Marcellus, I used to take you seriously, thinking you were somewhat intelligent. But now… I know why you came back looking for me. Is it because you’re having trouble understanding the current situation? Marcellus, not understanding is normal, but there will be even more things ahead that you won’t understand!”
“Aurelia, what do you mean?”
“What do I mean? I mean we have divorced. When will you repay the money you borrowed from Michael?”
As soon as Marcellus heard her words, his expression immediately turned slightly unpleasant, and he immediately started explaining.
“Aurelia, did you hear something? No matter what you’ve heard from others, it’s a misunderstanding! They’re just trying to sow discord between us. Think about it, Michael is my father–in–law. How could I harm him?”
“is that so?” Aurelia didn’t say much, but she looked at him with a cold and skeptical gaze.
Marcellus felt uneasy under her piercing stare. If he had nothing to hide, he wouldn’t be afraid of scrutiny. He knew he had something to hide, so he couldn’t maintain his composure.
Seeing Aurelia’s complete lack of belief in him, Marcellus immediately began to argue loudly, “Aurelia, if you don’t believe me, I’ll go back right now and return those two sums of money to Michael’s account!”
“Are the financial matters of the Francois family no longer a problem? Do you have the means to repay it?” Aurelia sneered.
“Aurelia, it seems no matter what I say, you won’t believe me! We’ve been married for three years, and even if I haven’t always been attentive or considerate, we’re still a couple. Do you think 1, Marcellus, would be the type of person to betray and harm my father–in–law?”
“Don’t let yourself be swayed by others‘ attempts to sow discord and make you doubt your own husband’s character! If I truly had any ill intentions toward Michael, and speaking bluntly, if Michael had been negatively affected by these two financial matters, do you think 1, Marcellus, as a grown man, would still need to come back and beg for your forgiveness in such a submissive manner?”
“They say true character is revealed in times of trouble. And isn’t trouble the ultimate test of a couple’s relationship? Aurelia, please stop being stubborn and angry with me. Michael is currently at a low point in his career, and this is the time he needs our comfort and support. If he finds out that we’re in such a state of discord, what kind of impression would it leave?”
“Regarding those funds, yes, there were some difficulties at that time, and I needed a quick turnaround. I even advised Michael not to help me, but he insisted on it. As his son–in–law, it wouldn’t be right for me to defy his good intentions. That’s why I agreed. Of course, I understand that this will put Michael at a certain political risk. As soon as our financial situation stabilizes, I’m prepared to repay him immediately
“If it weren’t for that day when you caused a scene and demanded alimony of 10 million dollars, I would have already repaid that money. To be honest, when I heard about Michael’s transfer, I was worried that it might be related to those funds and that he might be affected by them. Aurelia, can we please stop arguing? Can we find a place to talk calmly? I’m begging you. Can we do that?”
The more Marcellus spoke, the calmer his attitude became. He grew more righteous and stern in his words. Wheh Aurelia saw his expression of concern for Michael, she couldn’t help but admire his thick–skinned and cold–hearted nature.
If Aurelia didn’t know the true development and outcome of all the facts and hadn’t paid a heavy price for it, Marcellus‘ acting skills alone would be enough to convinice many people that he was undoubtedly a good husband and a good son–in–law!
Unfortunately, Aurelia couldn’t help but feel that she had underestimated Marcellus‘ shamelessness. To be able to lie so boldly and still maintain such a righteous facade, she doubted she would ever encounter another person like him.
“You speak so convincingly, but I don’t believe you.”
“Aurelia, what exactly do you want?”
Marcellus was getting frustrated, yet he pretended to be ready to accommodate her once again, which made Aurelia feel nauseated.
“Transfer that money into my account!”
“Well…”
“What? No money? “Didn’t you say that?”
“Aurelia, if I give you this money, will you stop causing trouble and agree to go home with me?”

Chapter 47
“Marcellus, there’s no need for this act! I know what you’re worried about, and I know what you’re afraid of. I can tell you that this money should have been returned. Whether you admit it or not, the result will be the same!”
“If you return it willingly, I can still leave you some dignity. But if you try to use this as a bargaining chip, you should know who will end up unlucky!”
“If I were you, I would give the money back as soon as possible and keep my distance. It’s better to avoid attracting trouble in the future. Remember, in the political world, there are no permanent enemies! And you’re just a businessman, so focus on your business and don’t try to play politics!” Aurelia continued, “That’s all I have to say. Think about it yourself!”
“Aurelia, you’ve truly changed! I won’t persuade you to come back with me now, I can see that you’re determined this time! Based on the bond we had as a married couple for three years, can you answer me one question?”
Aurelia smiled faintly, “What’s the question?”
“I want to know if this is your true character all along, and you were just pretending to be weak in front of me, or if there’s something that caused such a drastic change in your attitude toward me. You weren’t like this before!”
