Chapter 45
Chapter 45
They completed quickly the hospitalization procedures, and the ward was indeed a luxurious single room.
Although the medical standards at Petunia Hospital couldn’t compare to Serenity Hospital, the rooms‘ condition and luxury were much better than those at the old–fashioned government hospital in Navarre.
It was highly favored by the local expectant mothers. After all, when it came to giving birth, a quiet and comfortable living environment was their first
choice.
It was quite surprising that Scott was brought to Petunia Hospital by an ambulance. It was probably a coordinated effort between 911 and Petunia Hospital, as they had some kind of agreement. Unless a specific hospital was requested, patients in need of rescue would be prioritized to Petunia Hospital. This practice was not limited to a single county but was prevalent in many regions.
Fortunately, Scott only had a minor concussion. As long as he stayed in the hospital for observation for two days without any complications, everything would be fine. Aurelia had no intention of burdening him further and didn’t insist on transferring him to another hospital.
After settling him comfortably on the bed, Aurelia quickly went to the water dispenser and fetched a cup of warm water, bringing it over and placing it
in his hands.
“Drink some water first. Your lips are dry and cracked. After you finish, tell me what happened. Who hit you? Can you remember what they looked
like?” Aurelia said.
“Aurelia, I’m fine! I-”
“Drink the water first!”
“Oh, okay” Scott was indeed thirsty. Seeing Aurelia staring intently at the cup of water in his hands, he quickly lowered his head and drank it.
“Do you want some more?”
“No, thank you, Aurelia. I’m really sorry for causing you so much trouble.”
Aurelia continued, “Don’t say that. If you still think I’m trustworthy, tell me what happened. If you feel uncomfortable discussing it or don’t want to, I won’t force you.”
“No, it’s not like that, Aurelia. I’ll tell you! It was just a misunderstanding. The girl who works as a cashier in the restaurant where I part–time, she’s also from our school, but not in the same department. Recently, someone has been pursuing her, but she doesn’t like him, so she always asks me to wait for her after work… Today, that person came again, thinking I was her boyfriend, so…”
“So he got someone to hit you?”
“Not exactly. I already explained it to him!”
Aurelia looked at Scott’s handsome face, which looked embarrassed and helpless, and couldn’t help but feel a pang of sympathy. He was just an innocent young man. Compared to his capable and composed appearance in her previous life, he was quite different.
At this moment, there was no trace of that version, but Aurelia preferred him to remain naive and innocent like this. At least he wouldn’t have to work as hard as he did in his previous life.
“I understand. When you’re discharged, you should quit that part–time job. Don’t do it anymore. Find a new one instead.”
Initially, Aurelia wanted him to come by her side and help her. At least she could take care of him. But hoping Scott walking a completely new path in life without her, the words almost slipped out of her mouth, but she swallowed them back and changed her suggestion to finding a new job.
Scott blushed and nodded without hesitation.
Although Scott knew it wouldn’t be easy to find a part–time job that would accept him as a student and offer a better salary, he agreed without any objections. He knew that Aurelia had his best interests at heart and didn’t want him to suffer any further losses. He was touched by her genuine
concern.
In fact, Aurelia thought far more than Scott could imagine. She didn’t just consider the possibility of those who attacked Scott returning to harm him
again.
Aurelia also thought about the girl from his school who knew Scott wasn’t her boyfriend but didn’t clarify the situation when he was being beaten. Just this despicable motive alone was enough for Aurelia to dislike her.
Aurelia didn’t want to constantly scrutinize others with a cynical view based on her own experiences, just because she had endured many difficulties.
However, in today’s society, many college students lacked self–respect. They might appear pure and innocent on the surface, but in reality, they might not be as virtuous as they seemed. It was merely a matter of price.
The incident where Scott, an innocent person, was beaten was a simple analysis.
Assuming the girl really didn’t like the person pursuing her, she had plenty of ways and reasons to refuse him. However, she deliberately dragged Scott into the situation, using him as a scapegoat. Moreover, she didn’t even apologize or show up after Scott was beaten.
Based on this alone, regardless of whether she was truly innocent or not, Aurelia couldn’t think well of her.
It would be best for Scott to stay away from such a calculating woman. Otherwise, he would be used again in the future.
Chapter 45
This was Aurelia’s true thoughts.
Seeing Scott agree without hesitation, Aurelia felt much relieved.
Just at that moment, her phone rang. Aurelia took a look and saw that it was Marcellus calling again.
She furrowed her eyebrows and hesitated for a moment before answering, “Hello.”
“Aurelia, why didn’t you answer my call this afternoon?”
Although Marcellus tried to hide his anger, his tone still carried a hint of complaint.
“What do you want from me?”
Marcellus should be grateful that Scott was beside Aurelia, so she did not directly mock him with her current temper.
However, Marcellus could feel it in her tone from the other side of the phone through that cold sentence that pushed him away.
“Aurelia, do you have time? How about having a cup of coffee together?”
“I don’t have time. If you have nothing else, I’ll hang up. Don’t bother calling me in the future.”
“Wait. Aurelia, are you in a bad mood?”
“Marcellus, what the hell do you want? Does my mood have anything to do with you?”
“Aurelia, I heard about what happened to my father–in–law. 1-”
“Marcellus, we’re divorced! Get things straight. He is not your father–in–law anymore!”
“Aurelia, don’t be so harsh. I didn’t mean any harm. I just wanted to comfort you. Didn’t we agree that we can still be friends after divorce?”
“Who agreed with you? I am not your friend. Marcellus, if you have anything to say, say it. Don’t beat around the bush. I’ve married you for three years. Do you think I don’t know what kind of person you are? During our three years of marriage, have you ever cared about me? Now that we got divorced, why do you even care? Don’t you think you’re hypocritical?”
