Chapter 42
Chapter 42
Marcellus thumped his desk in annoyance. He looked at the file folder in front of him with a complicated look. It contained the documents that were supposed to be used against Michael.
Now, Michael had been transferred. It seemed that these documents were no longer useful, at least for the time being.
He quickly picked up the phone and made a call. However, no one answered the phone after a while. It continued to ring until there was no response.
Marcellus cursed inwardly, “That damned woman! What’s wrong with her? She acts like a meek kitten most of the time. I can’t believe she mocked me during our quarrel that night. Otherwise, our marriage wouldn’t have ended so quickly.”
Once the divorce agreement was signed, Aurelia disappeared for five to six consecutive days. Marcellus didn’t know where she had gone. Furthermore, she also didn’t pick up his calls.
At first. Marcellus felt good about himself. He thought Aurelia must have regretted their divorce, thus hiding somewhere to cry. Unexpectedly, when he called her a few days ago, she didn’t sound sad on the phone. If anything, her voice was as cold as that night.
“What the heck is going on? Why has everything gone so wrong all of a sudden?” he wondered.
When Marcellus was looking for Aurelia now, he still failed to reach her through the phone.
Nevertheless, even if Marcellus was furious, he didn’t know where to find her for the time being. “How could I not be angry?” he mused.
Meanwhile, Marcellus had no idea that Aurelia was currently at the most prestigious firm in Navarre, Elite Securities. She was trying to poach a senior–level manager in their office.
It wasn’t that Aurelia didn’t plan this at first. She could operate by herself. However, the funds involved were a bit large. Besides, she needed to use many accounts. Since there was no special operation team, it was difficult for her to transfer the funds.
The person Aurelia wanted to recruit didn’t necessarily need to be good at securities analysis. Nonetheless, this person must have a good reputation professionally. Otherwise, Aurelia’s identity would be easily exposed.
Charles Shawn was undoubtedly such a person in this industry.
Charles was a man in his 40s. He was calm and competent in his job. Although his determination didn’t seem sufficient. enough, his clients could always keep a small sum of the surplus when others were losing money. This was considered an achievement in the securities and finance industry.
What Aurelia particularly valued was that Charles had a very good overall concept. He was a cool–headed person who rarely acted impulsively. He always remained calm and cautious at all times. Moreover, Charles did not lack the sensitivity and foresight of the economic situation, which made him the most suitable manager in the finance world.
Therefore, when Aurelia decided to use the stock market to accumulate her first stash of money, she immediately thought.
of Charles.
The reason why Aurelia paid attention to this person was that in her previous life, Charles passed away due to a car accident a month before she died.
Aurelia remembered that Navarre Financial Times published a special report on Charles. The article talked about his life and investment ideas and cases in detail. At the same time, the writer also mourned his untimely death. Aurelia saw the article by chance back then, and it left a deep impression on her.
“I was reborn this time. Perhaps I can change more than just my own fate. If Charles is willing to work for me, he might have a completely different life in three years, she thought.
If Charles refused her offer, Aurelia wouldn’t force him. She still had another person waiting for her to negotiate with as a

backup plan.
However, she was not sure whether Charles‘ fate would follow the trajectory of her previous life.
Fortunately, Aurelia’s worries were superfluous. After she carefully explained her intention and sent a sincere invitation, this wise and elegant man in his forties only pondered for ten minutes before deciding to accept her offer. Charles agreed to become her financial manager.
He would manage the 19 million dollars of stock funds for her.
In fact, among the many stocks that Charles had traded in the past, 19 million dollars was quite a big sum. However, it was far from being a unique case. He had also taken over many trading that was more than ten times the transaction amount.
Nonetheless, he had never received such a request as Aurelia did so far.
“She decides to hire a special operation team just because she wants to invest in the stock market privately. Does Ms. Swanson really think that the stock market is a big gold mine where she can make money with ease?” he wondered.
Nevertheless, Charles didn’t raise these questions. The reason why he agreed was purely for the excellent benefits Aurelia offered him. He would receive an annual salary of 2 million dollars. She promised to honor the deal regardless of losses or profits.
Even if Charles were to work at Elite Securities for another decade, he would never receive a salary like that.
In fact, Aurelia gave him two choices. The first one was an annual salary of 2 million dollars. The second option was to receive three percent of the stock profit.
Charles chose the former without considering the latter. In his opinion, Aurelia was a newcomer who had no experience in stock exchange. It would be a good operation if she didn’t lose more than ten percent of the 19 million dollars after one year. It was almost impossible to make a profit.
“Even if we can make a profit, how much money will I get from three percent?” he pondered.
Of course, it turned out that Charles would rue the day he turned down that offer a year later. However, that was a story for another day.
After reaching an initial employment agreement with Charles, Aurelia finally breathed a sigh of relief. All that was left was the actual operation.
“Mr. Shawn, the management of the funds is in your hands. As for the stock traders, I want to recruit a special team from Gronga and let you manage them. What do you think?” Aurelia suggested.
“Recruitment from Gronga?” he asked.
Charles looked a little stunned at that moment. Although 19 million dollars was considered quite a large sum in 2006, if they invested them in the stock market, it wouldn’t be considered much.
“She is willing to pay 2 million dollars a year just to hire me. Besides, she wants to go to Gronga and recruit a huge team of stock traders. Is she so sure that her investment will definitely generate high returns?” Charles contemplated.
Even though the stock market had been on the rise this year, no one could determine how much profit individual stocks could make. Aurelia’s actions seemed a bit too presumptuous.
“Yes, I’m going to do this. Mr. Shawn, you should start handing over the work in the next few days. Then, you will come over to help me. As for renting a brand new office space and registering a new investment company, I’ll leave all these procedures. to you. By the way, Mr. Shawn, after the stock traders have been recruited, you should make arrangements for their food, clothing, accommodation, and transportation. It’s better to rent four or five places to accommodate them separately instead of a small office building.” Aurelia instructed.
“Ms. Swanson, what are you…”
