Chapter 35
Chapter 35
Obviously, Maddox also recognized Aurelia’s joking tone which contained no hint of rejection or distance, so he was slightly overjoyed in his heart.
His originally controlled tone and nervousness also relaxed a little.
He said, “In fact, there’s nothing else. I just want to congratulate you on regaining your freedom, and thank you for letting me watch something entertaining these days! Someone seemed to be particularly annoyed and inexplicably pissed off on the board of directors yesterday, provoking some people in the family and making them unhappy!”
Although Maddox had heard from Aurelia that she would divorce Marcellus, he did not expect her to be so fast.
Judging from the timeline, Aurelia had immediately signed a divorce agreement with Marcellus the next day after she signed the shares purchase agreement with Maddox.
Aurelia was really decisive, sharp, and direct.
Of course, the news of their divorce was still confidential, but Marcellus definitely did not gain any advantage from it.
This much could be seen from Marcellus‘ particularly irritable but subtle emotions these days, as well as the continuous visit of his personal attorney.
Maddox was really curious about how Aurelia decided to proceed next. After enduring it for several days, he finally could not help but make a tentative call to Aurelia today.
“Isn’t it good? Maddox, you should be happy!” Aurelia said casually. She obviously did not want to talk about it in depth.
“Aurelia, what’s your next plan? How about we cooperate if you’re willing to?” Maddox suggested.
“Cooperate?” Aurelia paused slightly. “In what way?”
He answered, “Aurelia, I will provide funds for you to utilize. I won’t interfere in any of your investments and decisions. No matter how much money you make or lose, the risks and benefits will be shared fifty–fifty between us. How does that sound?”
“Maddox, am I hearing it right? Do you have so much trust in me? What makes you think you can earn money through me instead of losing?” she countered.
“I don’t think you will make a steady profit. Didn’t I say that whether it is profit or loss, it will be split?” Maddox said.
Aurelia replied, “It’s because of this that I become more curious. You’re obviously taking the shorter end of the stick from this cooperation. Don’t tell me you’ve become a philanthropist, Maddox!”
“Aurelia, if I said that I liked your potential and thought you must have something hidden up your sleeves, you wouldn’t believe it, would you?” he asked.
“What do you think?” she responded.
Maddox chuckled. “Aurelia, have you noticed that we are so similar in some ways? We don’t trust others!”
“You’re wrong! I just don’t believe you!” Aurelia corrected him.
Maddox explained, “Aurelia, I’m not that bad! Well, to be honest, I need the support of the person backing you. You understand my foundation in the Francois family. Naturally, I have the means to get Marcellus Corporation, but if I want to expand it, I can’t do it without a backer!”
Once he brought this up, Aurelia understood that Maddox needed an officer to be his backer and he would use this relationship to support him to consolidate his position. Right now, he had obviously set his eyes on Michael, Aurelia’s father.
Since he was extending his hand, Aurelia had no reason to join hands with him if all he gave was empty talks.
Therefore, the so–called cooperation by giving her a sum of money for investment and use was equivalent to proof of allegiance and guarantee.
If Aurelia had made money from there, it would have been through his help. Therefore, it was impossible for her to leave him alone when he was in trouble.
Meanwhile, if Aurelia lost money, it would be better for him. Although she had to bear the loss equally, Maddox was the one who provided the capital, so all the losses were still Maddox’s. If Aurelia lost so much money, Michael, as her father, would remember this debt, and it was even more impossible for Michael to stand put when Maddox needed his help.
This was the conclusion of interest.
Although it sounded unreasonable, it was the most effective shortcut in the process of forging an alliance.
In the beginning, many political and business associations established connections with each other in this way.
Moreover, Maddox had another belief in his heart; it was his confidence in Aurelia. Aurelia had hidden her talent throughout her marriage. It was an unbelievable endurance level she possessed.
However, her decisiveness once she was determined would terrify others. Maddox would not believe it if she was said to be incompetent and did not have her own plans.
Now that she had finally divorced Marcellus, it was a good time for Maddox to establish a good relationship with the Swanson family. How much longer must he wait if he did not act now?
Putting it bluntly, even if Aurelia was worthless, her father was at least the chief deputy sheriff of Navarre. Such a high- ranking official was someone Maddox might not be able to get into contact with even after trying his best.
Aurelia also understood that Maddox wanted to take advantage of the situation, but she had her own plans too.
In 2006, the stock market was blooming, so it was the time when she could make the most money. If Aurelia wanted to build. her own business empire in this life, she had to have sufficient funds.
Although the shares were sold for 8 million dollars, she used it to help Michael immediately. Naturally, she would get this. money from Marcellus, but it would not be anytime soon.
Moreover, Aurelia asked for 10 million dollars in alimony after the divorce. It sounded like a lot of money, but it was still too little compared to the initial capital that Aurelia wanted to have.
At this time, Maddox’s initiative to invest in her came at the time because she could totally take advantage of him to earn
money.
As for the backer he wanted, as long as he was really capable of taking over Marcellus Corporation, giving him a little help would not be so bad.
However, Maddox was a scheming man. The investment capital coming from him had to be processed formally as a sum she borrowed from him. This was so that he could not use this as blackmail and impede her in the future.
Aurelia had already made up her mind, but there was no trace of it in her words. Instead, she smiled nonchalantly and said, “Maddox, you think too highly of me. However, I can’t make the decision for my father. Besides, you should alter what is changeable, and accept what is immutable. Nobody can stay in their position forever, so I advise you to take a wait–and–see attitude. If you placed your bet on the wrong person, you will be reduced to poverty and ruin.”
Aurelia sounded as if Michael was in a bad situation, and he might even lose his position as an official.
Maddox could not tell whether her words were true or not. He wondered, “Is she deliberately testing my determination and stance, or is she telling the truth?”
After a few seconds of puzzlement and hesitation, Maddox smiled again and made his decision.
