Chapter 1
Chapter 1
Aurelia Swanson staggered and was held in Scott Smith’s arms unsteadily as they walked out of the automatic door of the hotel.
Carlos, the driver of the company, had already driven there to meet them at the hotel lobby,
Seeing Scout holding Aurelia and walking out, he hurriedly got off the car and opened the door to the backseat.
“Mr. Smith, why did Ms. Swanson drink so much again?”
Scout’s handsome face suddenly showed an expression of extreme humiliation and anger that he tried to hold back.
He then ordered in a low voice, “Carlos, stop asking. Drive slowly on the way back later. Ms. Swanson has hardly eaten. anything today. After drinking all that alcohol, she must feel very upset in her stomach. She might puke if you drove too
fast.”
“Yeah, I understand, Mr. Smith. You should get in the car, too.”
Not long after the car slowly left the front door of Golden Bay Hotel, Aurelia’s entire body was already leaning into Scott’s
arms.
Finally, she massaged her splitting forehead and forced herself to prop up..
She opened her eyes, and her gaze was unfocused due to being intoxicated. She was so exhausted that she asked lazily, “Scott, where are we?”
Scott hurriedly held onto Aurelia carefully and massaged the temples on both sides of her head, his heart aching for her. However, he didn’t dare to show her the gentle gaze that he had.
He only replied gently, “We just left Golden Bay Hotel. We’re on the highway heading home now, but there’s still some distance before we arrive. It would be best if you got some shut–eye. I’ll wake you when we arrive.”
“Okay,” Aurelia replied faintly and stopped asking.
Aurelia habitually enjoyed his skillful and traditional massage skills, once again tilting her body into Scott’s young and firm
chest.
Ever since Aurelia divorced that heartless man, she had been sinking into the mire every day of her life, and every step of it was difficult and painful.
Even today, she still stubbornly refused to leave this city–the city that broke her heart and where she had lost everything.
On one hand, she was looking for an opportunity to defeat and take her revenge on that man.
Secondly, she wanted to show Marcellus that she could still live well without him.
Aurelia was actually not someone useless like Marcellus had perceived. He thought she was only a pitiful woman and the sheriff’s daughter.
In fact, Aurélia was also a capable woman who could dominate the business world.
Unfortunately, ten years had passed. The harder she tried, the more she noticed how huge the gap was between him and herself.
Her trading company was famous in the city and had both scale and influence as well.
However, Marcellus Corporation, which was run by her ex–husband, Marcellus, was already famous in Nuthana and even in the whole Tospait. It was a very well–known top–tier company.
Chapter 1
Marcellus was also rated as one of the top ten young entrepreneurs, philanthropists, one of the top 100 star entrepreneurs in the prefecture, and so on.
In contrast, Aurelia needed to drink, flatter, and talk about businesses all day, appearing in various dinners and wine parties, whereas he just needed to sit in his brightly–lit office in the high rise building. He would only need to press the intercom, and countless businesses would wait in line just to have a chance to work with him–to work with Marcellus Corporation.
That was the difference between them.
Aurelia didn’t want to admit that, but the gap widened every single day, and she couldn’t ignore the difference between them even if she wanted to
Between them, it was no longer like before when Marcellus‘ family had to beg for Aurelia to marry into theirs.
To everyone in Navarre, no one remembered that there was a chief deputy sheriff named Michael Swanson from ten years
ago anymore
Of course, no one remembered that he had a daughter named Aurelia anymore too.
In the political scene, one would lose all respect when they were gone.
A retired official couldn’t be able to guarantee that the successor succeeding in his place would take care of his children and descendants after that.
Besides. Michael was reported by someone else, stating that he stepped down on the charge of embezzlement, bribery, and misappropriating public funds.
It was true when they said that everyone would seize the opportunity to attack a person when they lost their power.
Aurelia didn’t resent the world, nor did she resent others for all that happened.
However, there was one person she would never forget or forgive, and that was her ex–husband, Marcellus Francois.
If it hadn’t been for his betrayal, Michael, her father who had always loved and cherished her, wouldn’t have left such a disgraceful image of himself in front of the four million citizens of Navarre.
If that didn’t happen, then Aurelia wouldn’t have fallen into this state. A state where she had to put on a smile, to have to put on a show, to maintain her livelihood.
And there was also something that she had longed for, thinking that it was the production of their love.
However, she didn’t expect that the unborn child would be disdained by him.
Aurelia had devoted countless efforts and had gone through much trouble so that she could surprise Michael on their wedding anniversary.
In the end, it turned into a pool of bright red blood, and the man just walked away heartlessly at that shocking sight
He didn’t even look back at her–not even one glance.
The child had been completely ignored by his biological father before he was born.
She still remembered the walnut–colored wooden stairs he chose before their wedding clearly. It turned out that those stairs
were
With this, she thought that it was the end of her life. However, she didn’t know that her losing the baby and hum divercing her was just the beginning of Marcellus‘ heartlessness.
The next morning, she was lying alone in the ward of the obstetrics and gynecology department of Serenity Hospital in the county with a pale face, drinking the oatmeal sent by the nurses alone.
The scene playing on the morning news happened to be of her father, Michael, the chief deputy sheriff of Navarre, being taken away by the Office of State Inspector General.
Overnight, the world had changed and crumbled for Aurelia.
