Chapter Chapter Nine
“We are so not doing this,” Lilliana said shaking her head.
Me, Lliana, Erik and Aaron had decided to go back to our flat and discuss the, I have to say, extremely good job offer. But of course, all of them have to stand against me.
“You think this is bad without a good reason for it? Well, that’s really professional,” I told them sarcastically.
“There is a reason, Amber. This was definitely not a coincidence. And this man and his Mrs. evil - glares wife are obviously using us to get something,” Aaron told me.
“That’s a crappy reason to turn down a good offer like that.” I told him.
“Well, you can’t just go with a bunch of people you don’t know to explore an island that DOESN’T EVEN EXISTS.” Lliana said angrily.
“I don’t know why don’t you trust them that much they even seem like good people,” I told them honestly.
“Lliana is right. That’s a total insanity,” Aaron tried persuading me again.
“Okay then, if you’re not coming with me, I’m going on my own.” I took my decision bravely hoping that they’ll change their mind.
“You can’t,” Aaron said.
“Why not?” I asked stubbornly.
Aaron opened his mouth to answer me but the door of Lilly’s room was opened and Erik was standing there with half of his body out.
“Amber, can you come here for a minute, please?” Erik asked politely which is completely not his way. I shot him a questioning look but he stood there silently.
Since we came here Erik took his laptop and locked himself in Lilly’s room during all the time we’ve been arguing.
“Uhm, Sure.” I told him and made my move towards the room.
I entered and he closed the door behind me.
“Is everything okay, Erik?” I asked him worried.
“Yeah, I just thought that you should see this before you try persuading them,” He said then sat in front of his laptop and I sat next to him looking at the screen.
“What is it?” I asked.
“Look, I did a little research about that professor and the island he talked about,” He said.
“That’s weird. Why would you do that? Don’t tell me you don’t trust them too.” I said.
“It’s not like that. I just thought that it’ll be good to know those people and if they were lying to us before we take our decision,” He defended himself.
“Alright, What did you find?”
“You know when that professor told us that he doesn’t want any companies evolved in his research about this phantom island?” He started and I nodded.
“It turned out that he and his wife were kicked out of the university they were working in, because they were working on a project that stood against the university’s rules and threatened it’s business.” He was taking to me while showing me some of theirs and the university’s photos.
“You mean they tried to gather the team they wanted from the students and use the university’s money to fund the expedition?” I asked.
“Exactly, and no one knows where are they now or what are they planning.” He completed.
“I don’t really see why have they been kicked out of it.” I told him.
“Are you kidding me? If the university actually let them go for it, thousands of dollars would’ve been thrown in the air.” He explained.
“Why didn’t they consider that it could really be there?”
“Because I searched for that phantom island and nothing came except some old myths about people who protects an island or something like that nothing scientific,” He said.
“I don’t know. I’ve got a feeling that’s telling me it really exists and that we should be going there,” I told him honestly.
“You actually still want to go after all that I’ve told you? Think about it Amber, you’re contradicting all of your studies.” He asked me surprised.
“Sure, why not?
“Think about it Amber, you’re contradicting all of your studies.”
“I think so. Just promise me that you’ll keep all of these stuff you told me today between the two of us,” I told him. If Lilly or Aaron ever find out these things they’ll definitely not come with me.
“I don’t think this is a good idea, Amber” He shook his head.
“Why? I’ll finally have the job I’ve always dreamed of and you’ll get to work as well, it’ll be fun.” I said happily.
“You could be right. I don’t know,” He hesitated.
“So you promise me?” I asked.
“Fine,”
“You can leave the these two on me and no leaks, Erik.” I told him again making sure that he’ll not open his big mouth to anyone and he nodded.
I jumped up and ran to the door getting ready to persuade these two.
Three hours later, we were all feeling sleepy and tired BUT my mission was accomplished and we’ve made our plans, after calling, on meeting them in the address they gave us from the phone call.
I was incredibly happy that I thought I should prepare my stuff and pack my clothes but I can do that later in the morning.
But the excitement was filling my heart to the full. I couldn’t even breath without smiling.
My dream is going to be true.
