Paulina’s POV ~

I looked out over the pack of Orange River.. and no one stepped forward.. not that I expected them to. I said “I realize none of you ever helped me.. but the majority of you didn’t go out of your way to hurt me either. I wish none of you harm.. but I would like answers.. Why you thought it was okay for Alpha Brennan to do what he did to me.. what justification you gave yourselves to turn a blind eye? Even a toddler knows it’s not okay to physically harm a child. Can any of you tell me why?”

A woman I recognized from the kitchen, who once gave me a bowl of oatmeal, spoke up “Luna Paulina, we were afraid. The morning I gave you food, I was taken to the cells.. and beaten every day for a week. I am ashamed to say I was too afraid to do it again.”

I nodded and told her “I thank you for putting yourself at risk for me. I would have been afraid, as well. So, let’s go with that.. I would like to try something..” I allowed my Alpha aura release.. that has increased since I had been marked and mated.. “The ones who were Alpha commanded to abuse me.. step over to the right… the ones who did it just because it was fun.. or the ‘IN’ thing to do.. step to the left.”

We watched as the pack divided… nearly all the warriors stepped right. About twenty women and girls my age stepped left. Damn! This pack is full of really awful people!

Perseus said “Holy fuck! All you women beat a child.. just because you wanted to. Speaks to the type of disgusting person you are!” I felt the tingling that always comes over me when Selene comes to visit.

My hair started to buzz and my eyes burned. I closed them and let Her come forth. “Alpha Thomas Brennan, Beta Alan Gardner.. You have been judged by the Realm of the Moon. Your wolves are as corrupted by greed and avarice as your human. It is my judgement you all four leave this world today.” And she pulled their wolves to walk the dark side of the Moon for eternity.. while their human vessels fell to the earth dead.

I stumbled and Roman caught me. I looked over the pack and everyone stood with mouths and eyes agape. Orion laughed “Now you know who you abused! You tried to destroy the Goddess’s vessel here on earth. Know that She knows what you have done. She’s always known! My sons and daughter are leaving.. but the Queen and I will remain until the new Alpha and Beta arrive. They are of my choosing.. and everything about this pack will be changed!”

Perseus released all his aura and demanded “None of you will speak of this day to anyone! Not even to each other! You are lucky we do not do to you what this pack did to Mountain Trail!”

I slept nearly the whole way home. I was tired from barely sleeping the night before.. and the Goddess drains my energy. It’s not as bad as the first time she did it.. but I am still acclimating.

At home, Brandon met us in the office.. “I have arranged with the contractors to repair and rebuild what was lost in the fires. The diner will be done within two weeks. There has been rogue activity to the west of here.. terrorizing smaller packs.. and towns.. mostly vandalism and property destruction. But it seems to be escalating. The techs think Black is shanghai-ing warriors by forcing them. Taking entire families of lone wolves hostage.”

Perseus said “I want all lone wolves notified.. Offer them protection of the pack, temporarily. I want those families protected! We don’t need to be killing wolves who don’t want to fight!”

I asked “Do we know if it’s only lone wolves.. or are they abducting from packs, as well. Once Black finds out Brennan is dead, I think he’s going to increase his efforts to recruit more warriors.. since he can’t rely on Orange River’s support anymore.”

Roman responded “The man is truly ignorant to believe he will ever be able to get near Paulina.. much less be King!” Brandon laughed “That’s his ultimate goal? To be king? Talk about your lofty ambitions! What a dumbass!”

Roman remarked “Get us a list of the towns and packs that have experienced these raids. We need to know what aid we can offer.. whether to rebuild. Provide workers or even monetary aid.. we can have them fill out requisitions for whatever they need help with.”

Brandon told us “I will get the emails out today. Let them know we stand behind them and support them in whatever they need. It may be a good idea to send some warriors to run interference with the rogues?” Roman nodded and told him to offer that, as well.

Perseus says “I just would really like to know what he’s doing to convince these people it’s possible to go against a thousand hellhounds and prevail.” I giggle and said “Normals are stupid.” Making us all laugh a minute!
