Chapter 2915
Chapter 2915
"You're a Russell now, so your grades represent those of the Rusell family. If your grades are poor, it will reflect badly on your father! Be a good girl, Sadie, and listen to me. Just stay at home and study. Consider it as keeping me company, okay?"
Karen held Sadie's hand, not letting her leave. She had been feeling anxious lately, sensing that something big was about to happen every time her daughter insisted on going out.
However, Sadie firmly broke free from Karen's grasp. "Don't worry, Mom. I'm just going out to buy a few books. I'll be back soon. If you're still worried, I'll video-call you when I get there, alright?"
The more Sadie disobeyed her, the more Karen suspected that her daughter was hiding something from her. However, she could not stop her since she was heavily pregnant.
Soon, Rita came downstairs to have lunch with the family. Karen immediately lost her appetite when she saw Rita was there, and it was the same for Rita. However, Rita forced herself to stay at the dining table to get more information for her investigation.
Nevertheless, Rita was not one to starve herself. Especially when Sherman found out what she had been doing lately, he would always pick her up from the Russells' estate after she was done investigating. She had no idea where he found all these delicious dishes, but he would take her around the city to explore every corner.
They had been everywhere from five-star hotels to street corners. Rita got to know Sherman better with each trip, but the more she got to know him, the harder she found it to let go of him.
'This is the last time,' Rita told herself. At the same time, another voice echoed, 'Why would he be so patient with me if he doesn't have any feelings for me?'
Rita knew the answer to this question, but the more she knew, the less she dared to get close to him.
Vince noticed Sadie was absent from lunch and expressed his dissatisfaction. "Isn't Sadie on her semester break? Why does she keep going out? Don't you care about your daughter's studies at all?"
Karen hurriedly explained, "Of course I do. Sadie went to the library with her classmates. We just had a video call a moment ago. I wouldn't be happy if she keeps going out as well."
Rita took a bite of her food before saying leisurely, "Well, that's strange. I was at the library earlier, but I didn't see her. If Sadie needs it, I can lend her my library card."
Karen forced a smile. "That won't be necessary. Sadie has enough money to get her own card. Your father has never been stingy with her allowance."
"Oh, I see. It seems like she's been quite focused on her studies lately," Vince remarked.
Karen nodded repeatedly. "Yes, she is."
"Well then, how were her grades last semester? Although this international school isn't big on rankings, I think you should still know her grades, Dad. Otherwise, it won't be easy to send her abroad for studies in the future."
Rita's rare concern for Sadie surprised even Vince. "What's gotten into you today? Have you had a change of heart? Why are you so concerned about your sister now?"
Rita smiled softly. "I just feel like it's been a long time, and I've grown up, so it's time to move on. After all, we're all family, aren't we? Karen, how were Sadie's grades? You can tell me. If they're not good, I can help her find a tutor. You don't want Sadie to be stuck here forever, do you?"
Karen certainly did not want Sadie to be stuck by her side forever, but coming from Rita, those words were difficult to trust. She struggled to believe Rita would be so kind as to help Sadie.
