The Cherished Wife (Noelle and Charles)

Chapter 836

"What do you mean by that?" Maxwell frowned deeply.

Charles remained composed. "It's nothing complicated. It's just that I've been your grandson for more than 30 years, yet you still don't understand what I want. Whether or not she's Kelly doesn't matter. What matters is that she's mine. There's no comparison between them. Kelly has never measured up to her."

"Y-You're deliberately trying to anger me, aren't you?" Maxwell's expression darkened with rage.

"What's so special about that woman? All she has is a face identical to Kelly's. You can have any woman you want. Plenty of daughters from respected families are a perfect match for you. Noelle's family... She's not worthy of you at all."

"You're right about being unworthy. I'm the one unworthy of her," Charles interrupted calmly.

"You..." Maxwell's anger rose further, and he was unable to find the words to say.

"Is this the only reason you summoned me here today? To have dug into Nelly's background so quickly, it seems you're very concerned. Since you've already discovered her family history, you must also know by now that there's no way I'm leaving her." Charles narrowed his eyes slightly.

He stood, slipping one hand into his pocket as a faint smirk formed on his lips. "She's my wife."

"What did you say?" Maxwell sprang to his feet, staring at Charles in disbelief. "You... You married her?"

Maxwell's investigation into Noelle was thorough, driven by her uncanny resemblance to Kelly. He once adored Kelly but turned against her after learning she betrayed Charles.

During the company's year-end

party, Maxwell had already caught wind of the drama between Winter and Janet, but what stood out most was the quiet presence of Noelle, who unnerved both Clarisse and Janet.

Although the conflict between Winter and Janet stirred a lot of chaos, Maxwell could not ignore Noelle's involvement. When he later discovered her connection to the Smith family, he thought no further of her-until now.

"What do you mean by this?" Maxwell demanded.

Charles replied coldly, "Exactly what I said. Noelle and I are married. Asking me to leave her is futile."

"Y-You ungrateful child! Are you trying to drive me to my grave?" Maxwell raised his cane, ready to strike Charles in his fury.

Before Maxwell could act, Mateo stepped in, grabbing the cane. "Dad," Mateo said, shaking his head.

Maxwell glared at him furiously. "You knew about this, didn't you? With all that commotion at the year-end party, there's no way you didn't know who Noelle was."

Mateo sighed. "Yes, I knew about her." However, even he was unaware that Charles and Noelle had married.

"Charlie, tell us the truth-what's going on with you and Noelle? You know she isn't Kelly. You can't treat her as if she is. It's not fair to you, Kelly, or Noelle."

A bitter laugh escaped Charles. "What gives you all the confidence to think you know me so well? Because of Kelly?"

His eyes darkened. "It doesn't matter

whether you believe me or not. Nelly

is my wife, now and forever. If

anyone dares come after her, they'll have to go through me first.
