Chapter 29: Then You Are My Elder Brother from Now on
Hayden did not notice anything wrong with her words. So, she just nodded and was slightly happy.
"Ms. Kidman still remembers me."
But Viola responded irrelevantly, "What's your daughter's name?"
Her gaze fell on Stella. After seeing her little cute face, her eyelids inexplicably twitched. How came she felt that this girl looked a bit like Joseph?
Impossible. A voice in her mind reminded her.
"My name is Stella Downey. You can call me Downey."
Stella suddenly interrupted and looked up at Viola, sizing up her.
"Stella Downey?"
Upon hearing this name, Viola clenched her hands. She remembered the medical history list that she had seen in Joseph's office that day. She became more and more suspicious so she directly asked. "How come your surname is the same as your mother?"
Stella did not know what she meant and just turned her head to look at her mommy.
It was normal that Hayden did not understand what Viola meant just now but now, Viola already asked a question that concerned personal privacy. She was indeed stupid if she still did not understand it. She immediately pulled Stella back to her body and spoke with a low tone.
"Stella grows up in the United States and we've just returned here not long ago. So, she doesn't quite understand what Ms. Kidman's question means. Moreover, it's already the twenty-first century, it isn't strange to follow the mother's surname."
Viola was slightly stunned. When she saw Noah hiding behind Hayden intimately, she became even more displeased and her tone became harsher.
"It doesn't really matter whether she follows which surname. I'm just a little curious that a child from an ordinary family is not likely to enter such a school like Blue Castle Bilingual Kindergarten. Ms. Downey is only a manager trainee of ST Group. If you don't have an outstanding husband, I really can't figure out how are you so capable to send your child here."
Hayden looked embarrassed.
She was sure that she had not offended Viola before but Viola was so aggressive that her single sentence could already hit home. Indeed, by just her own, she was not that capable to send Stella here. So, she was dumbfounded at that moment, not knowing how to answer.
"This is others' private matter."
Joseph suddenly interrupted and this concealed Hayden's nervousness. He took a glance at Viola in displeasure, "Does she need to report to you how does she enrol her kid into this school? You've been poking your nose into too many things lately."
Hearing this, Viola's face turned pale.
Joseph surprisingly helped this woman and even embarrassed her openly.
"Joseph, I'm doing this for Noah's sake," she quickly spoke, "I'm afraid that there is an admixture of the good and the bad people in this school, so it's better to ask properly."
"No need."
Joseph no longer looked at her and was having a cold attitude, "You go back to the car first, I'll bring Noah in."
Since the parent of the student had said this, the gatekeeper naturally would not let Viola go in. This was the rule of Blue Castle Bilingual Kindergarten.
"Joseph."
Viola stamped her foot in anger outside the door. She could only watch the figures of Joseph and Hayden entering. The two of them did not even turn their heads back so her face was contorted with rage and fury.
Stella and Noah walked in front of the two adults. When Stella turned her head and saw Viola's behaviour of stamping her foot in anger, she shrugged and whispered.
"Noah, do you really like this aunt? I think she's a little scary."
Since she heard Harrison say that Joseph was going to marry Viola, she searched for Viola's information online. The photos on the Internet were all beautified, which made her looked like a goddess from heaven. But when Stella saw the real person now, she was secretly sceptical.
It was just that she was dressed fashionably. Her face and her way of speaking were totally inferior to my mommy. Mister indeed had a bad taste.
Noah suddenly became slightly agitated and repeatedly shook his head.
"You don't like her?" Stella was flabbergasted, "Then why do you still want her to be your stepmother?"
Noah shook his head even more vigorously.
"You mean that you don't want her to be your stepmother?" Stella's eyes suddenly lit up.
Noah nodded.
"Then..." Stella's eyes widened, "What do you think of my mummy? Do you think it's better to let my mommy be your stepmother? The food made by my mommy and I are very delicious." Noah nodded his head very hard.
Seeing this, Stella was so jubilant that she almost jumped. As if she had found the hope again, she suddenly held Noah's hand solemnly, blinked her pair of big eyes and spoke. "Then you're my elder brother from now on. Don't worry, if I have a slice of meat, I won't let you drink soup only, okay?"
Noah nodded but he suddenly shook his head again. He lowered his head to write something on the drawing board and showed it to her.
Stella did not understand most words. She frowned, "Noah, what have you written?"
Seeing this, Noah turned and ran back. He handed the drawing board to Joseph and pointed to the drawing board, followed by Stella, which meant to let him read out the words.
When Joseph saw this, he looked at him strangely. He saw Noah clutching the corner of his clothes and this apparently sounded like he was very anxious. So, he could only frown and hesitantly read it. "My family is very rich. We can eat meat together without having to drink soup? Noah, why are you writing this?"
Noah coldly glanced at Joseph, snatched the drawing board and no longer talked to him. He walked to Stella's side and winked at her.
Stella smiled cheerfully and nodded happily at Noah.
"Yes, yes, hahaha."
Joseph could not understand the two children's odd behaviour. However, in his view, being unable to understand the children's behaviour was nothing worthy for him to continue thinking about it. So, he did not think much about it.
Along the path, Hayden was depressed and looked preoccupied. She regained her presence of mind only after being distracted by the two children. After hesitating for a while, she said, "Mr. Beckham, thank you for helping Stella to enrol into this school."
Joseph looked at the front without any expression on his face. He spoke insouciantly.
"Don't think too much. It's just because Noah gets along with Stella very well. Stella is considered Noah's first friend. So, being his father, I rather hope that she can accompany Noah." Hearing these words, Hayden was speechless.
The reason he spent so much money to let Stella study in this school was just that he wanted Stella to accompany Noah. It was true that rich people could do whatever they wanted.
If it was not because Dr. Wilson was here, she would certainly not bow to the superior in order to get the scanty pay.
Now, she could only bow, and must bow hard.
Hayden followed him. She clenched her fists so tightly that some creak sounds were made as she was boiling with rage. "What sound is that?" Joseph turned and looked at her all of the sudden.
Her hands relaxed and her face was full of smiles.
"Is there any sound? How come I don't hear it."
Joseph's eyes narrowed and he spoke faintly.
"Is it? Maybe I heard it wrongly."
The enrolment process was already settled. The two children were led directly to their assigned classes by the assistant administrator.
The reason Hayden came to the school this time was to take a look at the environment of the school. Joseph had the same purpose as hers. The only difference was that Hayden had to get back to work before nine o'clock. So, she was walking swiftly.
When she walked to the playground, she simply took a look and was about to leave. But she then suddenly heard a questioning voice behind her. She stopped moving.
"There are no safety measures for the swings here."
Joseph looked at the assistant administrator who had been following him. His tone was somewhat sullen.
"Are you sure these are safe?"
