Chapter 7
Isaac served the prepared meal and invited Brittany to sit down. Brittany got up, walked to the table and sat down carefully, avoiding her injured area.
Isaac prepared a cup of warm milk for her and put it in front of her. He then sat down and asked, "How did you get hurt?"
As soon as the words came out, Isaac felt regret. Technically they were husband and wife, but their relationship was far from intimate. Isaac wasn't the type to poke his nose into other people's business, so why did he ask?
Brittany paused, took a sip of the milk and said, "I fell accidentally."
Her eyes seemed a bit unnatural. It was clear she was lying.
Knowing she didn't want to tell the truth, Isaac didn't ask any more questions and said, "Let's eat."
The takeaway Hannah had ordered tasted good. Even after reheating, it didn't affect the taste. Brittany's appetite wasn't good; she barely touched the food and only had a bowl of porridge.
After dinner, Brittany, holding her waist, limped back to her room.
Isaac hesitated for a moment, then called out to Brittany, "Aren't you going to take a shower?"
Brittany looked exhausted.
"Not tonight, I'm not feeling well." Brittany shook her head.
She felt lucky enough to be safe and sound, let alone doing physical activities like taking a shower.
Brittany woke up from a good sleep and felt much better. She got up with difficulty, made a resume, and sent it to various jewelry design companies.
Just as she predicted, because of her bad record, she didn't receive any calls for three days.
Isaac came home an hour early and would apply medicine for her before dinner and prepare a warm cup of milk.
Brittany had a feeling that Isaac was coming home early for her.
Thinking of this, she asked, "Did you get a job? Why are you coming home so early these days?"
Isaac was holding a cup of coffee. The coffee beans he brought himself smelled high-end. She had asked before, and Isaac said they were a gift from a friend.
"I got a job. I'm new, so there's not much to do, so I came home early."
Isaac lifted his eyes and flipped through the latest financial magazine, "Aren't you going to work?"
He remembered that Brittany was working for the Dustin family, why hasn't he heard anything recently?
"I got fired."
Brittany leaned on the sofa, "I'm looking for a job!"
So it turns out he wasn't coming home early to take care of her, but because he was new at work and had nothing to do. As expected, she thought too much. A sense of disappointment flashed by, then she returned to normal.
"How about we go out for a meal once I find a new job?" Brittany asked, partly to celebrate and partly to thank Isaac for his care.
"Sure."
In the following days, Brittany actively sent out resumes but received no interview calls.
Instead, she got a call from Finn, "Brittany, I heard you're looking for a job. As long as you apologize to Patty, I can persuade your father to take you back."
The man on the other end of the phone sounded a bit pitiful, as if he was giving her a handout.
What's with this guy? First he hurt her, then he gave her hope?
"Finn, are you having fun doing this?"
Finn seemed to be provoked, "Brittany, don't be ungrateful." If it weren't for his respect for the Dustin family, he wouldn't have called Brittany at all.
"Thanks for your kindness, but it's really unnecessary."
"You-" Finn was very angry.
"You can think of me as being ungrateful." Brittany quickly hung up the phone and then blocked Finn's number.
Her waist injury had improved. She went downstairs to buy some ingredients and planned to make dinner to reward Isaac. While she was busy, the phone in the living room rang. Brittany dried her hands and answered the phone, "Hello?"
"Hello, is this Miss Brittany?"
"Yes, we are VelvetGlow Jewellery. Our director is very satisfied with your resume. Would you have time for an interview?"
Hearing this formal voice, Brittany was very happy, "Yes, I'd love to. Is tomorrow okay?"
"Okay, ten o'clock tomorrow morning."
Brittany hung up the phone, humming a tune, and started preparing dinner.
When Isaac came home and saw the abundant dinner, he was stunned, "Did something good happen?"
"Yes, I got an interview invitation."
Brittany served a bowl of soup, "You've been helping me with the medicine these past few days. It's been hard. Let's eat."
Isaac washed his hands and sat down at the table, "Which company is it?"
"I'll keep it a secret for now."
Brittany knew that VelvetGlow Jewellery was a traditional design company, but its performance had been declining in recent years. It was not as good as before. It was already beyond her expectations to receive an interview invitation.
Isaac didn't ask any more questions, finished his meal, and voluntarily washed the dishes. Then he took the medicine and signaled Brittany to lie down.
Brittany felt a bit uncomfortable, "I'm much better now, I don't think-"
She didn't think she needs the medicine anymore.
He always made her feel itchy, and... it felt weird.
Isaac looked at her deeply, and Brittany got scared, obediently lifted her clothes and let him apply the medicine. After a few days of rest, her injury had indeed improved a lot. When applying the medicine, Isaac's fingertips accidentally touched her waist, and Brittany moaned, her face immediately turned red.
Her waist was slim, with charming shape.
After he finished applying the medicine, he wiped his hands with a paper towel, "Good luck on your interview."
"Okay."
After Isaac left, Brittany lifted her head, her face still red. It took her a while to return to her room and get ready for the interview.
Early the next morning. Brittany arrived at VelvetGlow Jewellery very early. The receptionist led her to the director's office, "Please-" Brittany walked in.
The person inside stood up, "Bri, long time no see."
"William?" When Brittany saw the man's face, she called out in surprise.
The person in front of her was a fellow alumnus from the same department at college. They were pretty tight back then, but he went abroad for further studies and she got roped into a plagiarism scandal, which led them to lose touch.
Who would've thought they'd bump into each other here?
William Dillion poured a cup of coffee and slid it over to Brittany, "Take a seat, let's chat."
Brittany didn't beat around the bush, "William, didn't think to give me a heads up about you coming back?"
"I just got back. I was planning to catch up with you, but then I saw your résumé and thought to meet up."
William was always a gentleman, even now, holding a high position, he was the same.
"My résumé "
"I've seen your résumé, but I don't believe you're that kind of person." William knew she was referring to the plagiarism scandal.
"Bri, I've seen your talent, and I genuinely want to work with you."
Brittany always admired William. He was refined and talented.
"I won't let you down."
William gripped her hand tightly, "Welcome to VelvetGlow Jewellery. Knock 'em dead."
Grandeur Capital.
Nathan pushed the door open, a stack of files in hand, VelvetGlow Jewellery's information on top.
"Mr. Salter, are you seriously considering acquiring VelvetGlow Jewellery?"
Nathan had been with Isaac for years, and this was the first time he heard of Isaac's interest in the jewelry industry.
Isaac glanced up, flipping through the files, "VelvetGlow Jewellery may not have been performing as well as it used to, but it's still solid. If we seize the opportunity, we can profit."
Nathan never doubted Isaac's judgment, "I'll speed up the acquisition process and finalize the agreement as soon as possible."
Meanwhile, Brittany joined VelvetGlow Jewellery and was led to the design department by William. He clapped his hands to gather everyone's attention, "Let me introduce our new designer, Brittany."
Sparse applause sounded, and then, the woman sitting in the most prominent position stood up, showing displeasure:, "Brittany, is that really you?"
