Chapter 37
Brittany didn't want to make things awkward with William. "William, I don't think I'm cut out to keep working at VelvetGlow Jewellery. I want to start my own business."
William sighed. He was worried that Brittany was leaving because she wanted to distance herself from him.
"Bri, if you've decided to leave VelvetGlow Jewellery, just go for it," he said, pausing for a moment before adding, "And remember, if you ever hit a rough patch out there, VelvetGlow will always welcome you back."
He was relieved that he had never expressed his feelings for Brittany. At least they were still friends, still able to care for each other.
"William, thank you," said Brittany.
Brittany knew she couldn't go back. After hanging up, she drove to the seafood market.
To celebrate signing a partnership agreement with Wesley, Brittany bought some lobsters and other seafood, then returned to her apartment with the rewards.
The apartment was as quiet as ever. She started preparing dinner.
Grandeur Capital.
A man in a black suit was sitting in a leather chair, joking to the guy in a pink shirt across from him, "I recently invested in a new studio, the owner's a newbie, who knows if it'll pay off." Isaac asked, "Got nothing better to do?"
Wesley, a CEO himself, was discussing petty investments with him.
Being friends with Isaac was such a bore, Wesley thought. "By the way, William's out of the hospital. How about we catch up over dinner? Maybe tonight?"
Just as they were discussing, Isaac's phone buzzed. He glanced at it instinctively.
Isaac picked up his phone, shot Wesley a warning look, and then looked down to reply to the message.
Wesley asked, "Whom are you texting? Your wife?"
Wesley was curious about who Isaac's wife was, who could possibly have Isaac wrapped around her finger. Brittany had sent a photo of the dinner she'd prepared, with a note. ["Get home early, seafood waits for no man."]
Isaac checked the time and replied, ["I'll be home at 8."]
["Okay,"] Brittany responded. Once she knew when he'd be home, she didn't text further.
Isaac put down his phone and turned to Wesley, "We'll talk about William some other time."
Wesley nodded and changed the subject, "Have you met the girl William's into?"
Isaac countered, "Have you?"
Wesley laughed. Had he ever! He'd been curious about who had helped Brittany at the Field family dinner. Turns out, it was William. What a coincidence! The girl William was into was Brittany. If it wasn't for their connection, he wouldn't have invested so casually.
"That's a secret. If you're interested, you can find out for yourself."
Isaac responded, "I'm not interested."
Wesley, who had known Isaac for years, was familiar with his character. Clearing his throat, he started, "Let me tell you, that girl is his school mate, rumor has it—" His phone rang. Isaac gestured for Wesley to stop talking and answered the call.
"Hello, Granny."
"How's my granddaughter-in-law doing, Zac? I miss her. When are you bringing her over for dinner?" Grace's voice echoed on the other end.
Isaac rubbed his temples, "Granny, I'll bring her over when I have time."
Seemed like Granny was really fond of Brittany. She had been nagging about her a lot lately, giving him a headache.
The old lady sounded displeased, "Give me her contact info then, I want to call her!"
Isaac was moving too slowly for her. If he didn't act fast and secure Brittany, she would leave and it'd be too late to regret!
Seeing how anxious his grandmother was, Isaac reluctantly agreed, "Alright, I'll send you her contact info later. You should get some rest." After hanging up, he looked at Wesley, "Anything else?"
Wesley wanted to say something but decided against it. Isaac had to find out himself! Or maybe William could pull off a surprise confession!
"Nothing, I better get going." Wesley stood up to leave, then called William, "William, how are you feeling since you got discharged from the hospital?" "Care to join me for dinner tonight?"
"Zac just got married recently, he's busy rushing home to his wife," Wesley casually mentioned.
Sitting in his office, William paused, "Zac got married as well?"
