Chapter 14
Upon hearing the noise, Brittany quickly wiped away her tears and said, "I'm okay."
The call was a buzzkill for Brittany, making her lose interest in continuing the chat with Isaac, so she retreated back to her room.
Isaac watched her leave with a frown on his face.
Suddenly, the phone rang.nlt was a call from Grace.
Isaac picked up, "Granny."
"Zac, I think Brittany is a real catch. Since you've tied the knot with her, you should treat her nicely and clear up the air about your status to avoid any sticky situations."
Having met Brittany, Grace was quite impressed with her.
But Isaac didn't respond. His marriage to Brittany was nothing but a transaction; he didn't need to worry about any complications!
"Granny, you should call it a night."
Velvet Glow Jewellery.
Brittany walked into the office, hearing whispers around her.
"Sydney, congrats on landing Mr. Tueley's project!"
"Yeah, I heard Mr. Tueley was chuffed with the designs. We're all going to be riding your coattails now!"
As the flattery started to pour in, Sydney puffed out her chest with pride. Spotting Brittany, she walked over and said, "Brittany, I'm sorry about this. The project was mine, so the recognition is also mine." Brittany clenched her bag, her knuckles turning white. "Sydney!"
"Don't get bent out of shape."
Sydney lightly patted her hand. "You've been Patrina's sidekick for years; aren't you used to it?"
Brittany's face turned red; she pushed Sydney away and stormed into Frank's office. "Frank, don't you think you owe me an explanation about the recognition?"
Frank, who was sipping his coffee, paused mid-sip, his face turning sour. "Brittany, you're new here; I don't blame you for not understanding company rules. But the decision about the recognition is final. I'II double your commission."
Frank thought that Brittany was just making a fuss about the recognition because she was underpaid.
Now that her commission had been doubled, what else could she possibly complain about?
Brittany bit her lip; she knew Frank was doing this on purpose, taking matters into his own hands!
Frank also knew that Brittany was a talent he didn't want to offend, so he softened his tone: "Sydney is under Mr. Salter; we can't offend her. Think about it: what's more important than making money?" Brittany pushed Frank away, saying, "This is the first and last time!"
She left the office, Sydney looking smug as a bug, raising an eyebrow. No matter how pissed Brittany was, she would have to back down in the end!
Brittany returned to her seat. Anger, humiliation, dissatisfaction-all kinds of emotions were jumbled up, but she was forced to keep them under control.
Sydney, banking on the power of the Salter family, had snatched away her recognition!
The sad part was she couldn't even fight back!
William was tied up with negotiations with the consortium; he didn't have time for Brittany, and Brittany didn't want to add more to his plate as she felt it was her fault that he was stuck in this mess. The Dustin Group
A new product was launched, but the sales were meh.
They could have used Brittany's design, but Patrina meddled with it, and the result was a flop.
Robert looked at the sales data, frowning.
The secretary, who had been by his side for years, suggested to Mr. Dustin, "From a design perspective, I think Miss Brittany's design is far superior."
When Brittany was around, she personally created all the design drafts for the entire company.
Many of the best-selling products were her designs. Even in the company's most difficult times, she helped the company tide over the crisis, getting The Dustin Group out of hot water. However, Brittany was not given the recognition she deserved.
Hearing this, Robert said, "Don't mention that ungrateful child! She got hitched behind my back and still refuses to apologize to me!"
"Maybe you could take the initiative to talk to her?" The secretary suggested
The secretary thought that Brittany would be a better successor than Patrina.
Patrina, who was outside the door, heard these words and clenched her fists in jealousy. Everyone in the company thought she was undeserving; she had done her best. Why could they only see Brittany? Patrina stormed off in a huff. Back in the office, she found that Finn had already arrived.
She walked over, tears welling up in her eyes. "Finn, is it because I'm not good enough? Why does everyone favor Brittany?"
She choked up. "I know I don't have as much talent, but I've tried my best. It was Brittany who plagiarized first. I let her continue designing to save her job, but now the whole company thinks I'm not capable." Finn's face changed when he heard about Brittany plagiarizing.
Brittany used to have a bright future, but her reputation took a hit when she plagiarized in a major competition.
"Patty, it's not your fault. People like Brittany don't deserve to be designers. You gave her a chance these past three years; she should be thanking you." Finn comforted her, and Patrina was pleased.
She suddenly remembered something: "There's a dinner tomorrow night; can you accompany me?"
Tomorrow night is the 80th birthday banquet of Janette Field in Imperial City, and many celebrities were invited.
Most importantly, the one Brittany plagiarized from was Janette's granddaughter, the famous domestic jewelry designer Loraine Field.
"Sure."
After seeing Finn off, Patrina contacted Brittany and said, "If you still want to get the heritage your mother left behind, come to the Fields' dinner tomorrow night. If you come, I will give you the heritage." Hearing this, Brittany immediately stood up and asked, "Are you sure you'll give it to me?"
When her mom died, she was still a kid, so everything was left in Robert's hands.
"Sure thing."
Patrina flashed a smile. "See you tomorrow night."
She knew Brittany would show up because she knew how sentimental Brittany was about her mom.
It turned out that Patrina was right. Brittany was planning to go.
On one hand, she wanted the keepsakes.
On the other hand, she wanted to see Loraine, thinking there must've been some misunderstanding back then.
The Field family was a renowned jewelry dynasty in Imperial City, with three generations of jewelry designers. Janette even pioneered the local jewelry design style. She was a textbook figure! Brittany had mad respect for Janette. But even now, she still couldn't figure out why her hard-worked designs ended up being Loraine's.
Back then, she was just a nobody, while Loraine was already famous.
The jury, without any investigation, revoked her competition qualification and labeled her as a plagiarist.
Due to Robert's warning, she had to give up the pursuit of truth.
Looking back, Patrina was the biggest winner of that competition.
Meanwhile, at Grandeur Capital
Nathan handed the Field family's invitation to Isaac. "Mr. Salter, Janette is having her eightieth birthday party, and she's invited you."
Isaac looked up and said, "Loraine is back in the country, right?"
"Yes, Miss Loraine was invited abroad for an exchange after that incident. She just returned recently."
"I heard you talking about Loraine outside. Do you have a thing for her?"
Wesley walked in with a playful smile on his face.
After greeting Nathan, who then left, he ordered the secretary to bring two cups of coffee.
Wesley sat down, raising an eyebrow at Isaac, and said, "I remember you and Loraine were pretty tight. There were even rumors that you two were dating. Is that true?"
Isaac glanced at him and said, "Maybe you should mind your own business."
Wesley looked puzzled. "Oh right, I'm really into the design draft of Velvet Glow Jewellery this time."
"It's a shame though; I heard the credit got stolen."
Wesley, always in the loop, obviously knew about Brittany's credit being taken away.
He wasn't a fool. He knew about the close relationship between Sydney and the Salter family, so he didn't blame Sydney for taking Brittany's credit.
Isaac, however, seemed uninterested. "Is that why you're here?"
"Of course not. I'm also going to the party tomorrow night. We could go together."
Isaac was cold, but he agreed.
Wesley thought it was boring and shrugged. "Loraine is back. You really don't care about what happened back then?"
