Chapter Epilogue: What Really Happened
I felt like my entire world had come crashing down as the doctor pushed me away from my mate. I wanted to stay by his side but I knew he couldn’t save him if I were clinging to his body preventing him from doing his job.
Several other wolves rushed to his side, each doing as the doctor instructed them to do as my father pulled me off the ground and ushered me to shelter. I struggled in his hold as I watched them carry Bishop off to goddess knows where.
“Ember, they have to get him to the hospital but right now you are in extreme danger.”
Some of Anderson’s pack members were beginning to riot at the fall of their Alpha so my safety was severely compromised. I looked around at the ravenous mutts who were threatening to tear me apart when I began to tremble in anger. My skin became hot to the touch, making my father let go quickly as if it were burning his hands.
Leaping forward, I grabbed the closest wolf to me and snapped his neck with one twist of my hands. Another approached me but a sudden surge of power consumed me and I punched him so hard in his chest I felt his ribs break. He fell to the ground and I stomped down on his neck, crushing his windpipe beneath my foot.
I began running around like a rabid dog, killing wolf after wolf, letting my rage boil out. I wanted them all dead, just like their manipulative, scum of a leader who lay motionless in the far end of the town square. His throat torn from his body was proof that he could no longer ruin anyone else’s lives. His reign of terror was finally over and in just a few minutes so was most of his pack.
Ripping through flesh and bones, I couldn’t stop or maybe I didn’t want to and I wasn’t going to until a stinging sensation traveled from my arm down to my fingers and numbness took over. My body began to sway and my eyes started to close. I could hear my father screaming my name as I began to fall to the ground. Before I lost consciousness, I felt someone catch me and lift me into their arms.
Darkness consumed me and soon I was hovering above the Earth in a dream state. I didn't know exactly where I was but as I focused my vision, I realized I was in the hospital. I blankly stared as Bishop’s body lay on the operating table, the doctor and his assistant rushing to keep him alive. I could hear the monitors beeping as ECG pads read his heart rhythm, producing slow, steady beats. There was a tube inside his mouth that kept him breathing and lines attached to his arms pumping drugs into his system.
I stared in bewilderment as the doctor gasped at the sight before him. Bishops wounds were beginning to heal themselves. The previously torn skin stitched itself together with such speed it looked as if he were being sewn back by a machine. The monitors were going crazy as his body began to shake and his limbs fought the restraints holding him to the table.
His eyes immediately opened and he pulled at the tube in his mouth then sat up. Leaping off the table in a frenzy, he bolted to the door in all his naked glory and ran down the hall towards a door at the end. My spirit floated after him, stopping as he grabbed the door handle and thrust it open. Storming in, he disappeared into the room, leaving the door ajar.
Peering in, I watched as he knelt beside the bed where my body lay still. He reached for me, closing his giant fingers around my tiny little hand and brought it up to his mouth. Looking down at my disappearing limb, I felt the tingling sensation, and suddenly I was sucked back into my body.
My body jolted off the bed as my spirit re-entered it, waking me from my deep slumber. My gaze met the shocked look of my mate as he held my hand tight.
“You’re…alive?” I gasped as I searched his entire body for signs of a ghost.
His wound was almost completely gone. Instead, a tiny red mark was left in its place, barely noticeable to the untrained eye. I reached out and brushed it wanting to make sure he really was sitting before me when the door to my room swung open again.
Instinctively, Bishop jumped up and spun around hiding me behind his back. A low growl emitted from his throat at the sight of 6 huge men dressed in black suits. They lined the doorway before another man walked in with a grave look on his face.
"King Williams?"
There was a moment of awkward silence as both men stared at each other, my mate still without clothes and the other shifting his eyes towards the ceiling. I grabbed the blanket from my bed and wrapped it around Bishop's body as he fumbled to tie it.
"Excuse my unexpected entrance, Alpha but this is a matter of life and death."
"This is unexpected to say the least, just an hour ago I was fighting for my life after killing another Alpha and my pregnant mate was drugged like a savage animal. To what do we owe the pleasure."
"I am indeed aware of what happened to you and your mate but I am here to tell you that you both are in danger. The man you killed was the head of the Mafia here in Tennessee."
As if the air in my lungs had been knocked out of me, I folded forward at the thought that the nightmare I had just gone through would never end.
"Would you care to elaborate King?"
"Alpha Anderson has been on my radar for years but we could never catch him doing anything illegal until my men busted an enormous sex trafficking ring to which he was the main supplier. We were waiting for the warrants to come here and arrest him. However, it seems he messed with the wrong pack and got himself killed but this doesn't mean that's the end of the story. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who will be coming after you both and I am here to make sure that doesn't happen."
"Why would they be after Red? I was the one who killed him."
"She challenged him and pissed off a lot of his members, even though she killed a good bit of them, they will be coming for you to avenge their leader. Alpha Sloan, we don't have much time, I need you both to come with me."
"NO!" Bishop said as he turned to me, cupping my cheeks in his hands. "I will go with you, King but my mate stays here. She should not be traveling in her condition and constantly having to watch over her and my pups backs while we are on the run is not the life they deserve. There has to be some way you can keep her here and unharmed and I will go into hiding instead."
"Alpha, with all do respect..."
"I WILL GO ALONE. UNDERSTOOD!" He bellowed.
"Bishop, you can't go without me. I need you, the pack needs you, your pups will need you. Please, we can make this work."
"Red, this isn't up for discussion. I killed him so I will pay the consequences and besides, this will give you the chance to be the great Alpha I know you can be."
He stepped away from me and towards the door as I began to cry, reaching for him as his fingers slipped from mine. For the second time in 24 hours, my world was being torn apart. In the blink of an eye, he was gone, disappearing into the night without another word.
What remained were 6 heavily armed men and a tear soaked pillow on a stiff, cold hospital bed. I curled into a ball and cried for what felt like years. My mate was miraculously healed, left with no memory of a struggle at all and now he was being targeted for killing that worthless piece of shit Alpha.
After he left, I wasn't sure when I would see him again, if ever, but I just knew, once I held those beautiful babies in my arms, I was determined to do everything in my power to get him back. I would do him proud and serve as the Alpha he knew I could be, but once he returned, his Luna I would be.
So many emotions went into this story. I wanted everyone to feel empowered by her character, I wanted you to see a little bit of her in yourself. I also wanted to show you that you don't need a man to be complete but when you have someone who is supportive, to cling to them when times get bad and trust that they always have your best intentions in mind. Stay true to yourself but it isn't a bad thing to have someone to lean on when life hands you lemons.
No matter what you thought about this story, I want to hear your comments. All your feedback helps more than you know, even the negative ones but I appreciate them all and want you to keep them coming.
As always, thank y'all for sticking with me and being the inspiration I needed to get this story up and finished. And just because it is done, doesn't mean you've heard the last of me. I love y'all!!!!!
