Chapter Thirty-Five | Bad Timing
The room was dead silent. Not even a breath could be heard as she stared into the shocked eyes of Vincent. Her heart felt like it was going to jump out of her chest as she could not believe she had opened her mouth and told him.
Xenia had only known for a few days. The dizziness and the forgetfulness were not only because of the Wolfsbane but the pregnancy as well. She could not tell the difference between either as she had grown suspicious. Her sudden migraines, her breast feeling swollen and sore, and she could not forget the fact that her last period was only a little over a month ago.
Her suspicions had really spiked the day she had her first dizzy spell. Eating those pancakes made her feel extremely sick but she refused to acknowledge it until her next treatment. There, she pretended that she needed to pee and asked one of the nurses to check her blood sample for anything out of the ordinary. That was when she had found out but for how long she had been pregnant, however, Xenia did not know.
She could not tell what he was thinking at that moment as his hands were frozen on her face. His eyes were wide as his mouth was a few inches open. Xenia wanted to look at everyone else, but she was afraid to move, she was afraid to do anything while she blinked up at him.
His silence was slowly killing her inside. Was he mad? Was he about to reject her? Was he pissed that they were having sex knowing that they were risking it? Was he feeling anything at all? The questions that stormed her mind kept coming, his face paling before she suddenly felt something.
His fingers dug into her hair while he grazed his tongue over his lips. “We really do not know how to do this kind of thing do we?” He finally spoke, one of his hands going towards her hidden chain where their secret engagement was hidden. “Am I really going to be a dad?”
Her heart picked up even more at the sound of Vincent becoming a father to her child. Her head moving up and down while she finally released the breath, she did not know that she was holding. “Yeah, how did that happen?” She joked, a small smile forming on her lips at the sight of his grinning expression. “Wait, do not tell me. I already know.”
“YOU ARE FUCKING PREGNANT!” April suddenly screamed, jumping up from her spot on the couch as she waved her hands around in a frenzy. “I AM GOING TO BE AN AUNTY!”
They both jumped, their own little world getting destroyed as they looked over to see the room full of shocked faces. April jumped around like a mad man while Vincent pulled Xenia into his arms. Their lips met in seconds as she moaned but again, their moment had to be destroyed.
“You are not fighting.” Alpha Zander spoke. “As my best friend, family, and female Beta. Putting your life and the future Beta’s life on the line is not going to be tolerated!”
“He is right.” Vincent agreed, Xenia looking up at him a little stunned as his hold on her tightened. “I cannot lose you and our baby. Your life is already being threatened and the last thing we need is for my own father to find out about this.”
“Who else is in favour?” Alpha Zander questioned. Jack, April, Tilly, And Linda all raised their hands in agreement while Xenia huffed. “Then it is settled. Xenia, you are going into the cellar as well. I will chain you to those walls if I have to!”
Xenia crossed her arms, pushing Vincent back a little as she was mad at all of them. “And do I have a say in any of this! This is a war against my own mate and every single one of you expects me to sit down and act like an obedient housewife while all of you are fighting for his freedom! I think not!”
“Xenia, we know you all too well.” Jack sighed, his eyes a little teary after hearing about the news. “Too well actually hence why we all know that you will eventually escape the cellar. That is why there was a cell installed down there specially made for you.”
Her heart sank at his words, her eyes turning towards Alpha Zander for confirmation. “We needed to install it for your own good. Especially now that you are carrying our future.”
“And what about the rest of them?” She questioned, her anger getting worse by the minute. “They will get suspicious that I am not there. They will try and find me, and they will kill every one of those innocent people to get to me! I know my mother and she will do whatever it takes to get her title back, even if that means killing me.”
Her own words felt like venom on her tongue as she spoke. Had they not thought it all through? Had they not considered every scenario? Because she has. Xenia had thought through every scenario, even the most unrealistic ones just so she would know what to do.
“I will be down there with you, honey.” Linda finally spoke. Her eyes were now dry from her tears as she no longer held a sad expression on her face but was replaced with newfound determination. “All of you have shown what true leaders look like and I am so proud to know that this was part of my own doing. It will be an honour to protect you, Xenia, you and our future Beta.”
“Linda, you do not have to do this,” Xenia said, Vincent slowly coming near her again as she allowed him to do so. No matter how mad she was, she could not stay mad at him. “I am not incapable of protecting myself.”
“I never said that you were incapable my dear.” She reassured. “I was betrayed today. We all were but we are going to come out stronger and we are going to end this pathetic ordeal. But we can only do that knowing that our strongest warrior of all is protected.”
“I will be down there as well.” Tilly quietly spoke, her hands in her lap while her soft eyebrows were frowned in thought. “I want to be a Luna to this Pack and to do that, I will help all the women and children keep calm while the war is commencing. If anything happens, I need to be there as their shield.”
Vincent’s arm wrapped around her waist as she felt his face in her neck. “Please accept this. We need to all work together and get this done, I will never surrender to him. You taught me to never surrender no matter how hard the situation is. For me, please accept this fate.”
Xenia listened to their words. Her mouth was now dry as she moved her eyes around every single one of them. This room was her family and as a family, they all needed to be together.
And if that meant that she was going to sit in a cell for God knows how long then so be it. “Okay.” She sighed. “I am in.”
She just hoped that this would work.
