Chapter 2093 In Low Spirits
Damian was amused by Sheryl's reaction. He coughed lightly and said, "I came here to have dinner. Have you been discharged from the hospital?"
Actually, Damian knew it. He had purposely gone to the hospital and had heard from a nurse that Sheryl had already been discharged.
Damian hadn't expected he would meet Sheryl here. So naturally, he was excited to see her.
"Yes. I left the hospital in the afternoon." Sheryl was a little embarrassed as she didn't know what to say.
She felt uneasy in front of Damian. She had been unconscious when Damian had brought her to the hotel. But it seemed that she could vaguely remember something.
As she thought of this, she felt like she didn't want to see him anymore. But it was also Damian who had helped her when she needed it.
Thus she didn't know what to do with Damian.
"Sher, I..."
"Mr. Li, have you had dinner yet? We're almost done with our dinner. You'd better order some food for yourself," Nick interrupted purposely.
He preferred Charles to Damian. In his opinion, Charles was the only man Sheryl loved.
It infuriated him to see Damian trying so hard so he could spend time with Sheryl.
Damian knew what Nick meant. Nick wanted him to leave them alone. But he continued to ask Sheryl in an expectant tone, "Can I visit you over the next few days?"
"I'm doing fine now. I'll be back to work in a few days. I'm sure you have other things you're busy with, so you can just let me be," Sheryl declined with a smile. "Well, Sher, in fact, I have so much to share with you..."
"Sher, are you done with dinner? You still need to go change your clothes. I can drive you home," Nick interrupted before Damian could continue what he was going to say. Sheryl heaved a huge sigh of relief. Thanks to Nick, Damian was cut off, and he wasn't able to continue what he was saying. She wasn't good at turning people down. "Alright. I'm done eating. We can go." Sheryl stood up from her seat and then nodded at Damian as she said, "I need to go. Enjoy your food!"
As Sheryl walked toward the entrance, Nick brushed past Damian and said to him in a low voice, "Sher deserves better."
After they left the restaurant, Damian still stood there. He looked unhappy, his fists clenched. It was hard to tell what he was thinking.
He sat down and ordered some food to eat. Sadly, he wasn't able to enjoy his meal as his mind was racing. He couldn't even remember what his food tasted like. Damian could feel that Sheryl didn't want to talk to him. It seemed as if she was avoiding him.
But why?
He was often affectionate to her, but she had never been cold to him like she was just now. She wouldn't even look at him. What was wrong? Did something... Damian recalled then that earlier in the afternoon that day, he saw Charles visiting Sheryl. What had they talked about? Had Sheryl forgiven Charles? Was that the reason why she was so cold to him? Damian grew more worried the more he thought about it. He then decided he didn't want to eat anymore.
He needed to do something.
Charles was a smart man. There was no doubt that he had other intentions besides protecting Sheryl when he announced his divorce from Sheryl. He must have something else planned. Damian guessed that Charles' real goal was to gain Sheryl's forgiveness. Once Sheryl forgave him, they could get married again.
That must be Charles' plan.
As Damian thought of this, he knew he couldn't wait any longer. He hurriedly paid the bill and ran to find Sheryl. Unfortunately, she was long gone.
Nick drove Sheryl back home. On the way, Sheryl was seemingly in low spirits, but Nick didn't know how to comfort her.
Sheryl felt disappointed at herself and helpless as she thought of what Charles had said on TV. She didn't know how to face her kids.
"Ouch!" Sheryl sighed and pinching herself looked out of the window.
Nick caught a glimpse of Sheryl's sad face. He thought that she was worrying about her relationship with Damian, which made his anger at Damian reach its zenith.
"Sher, don't worry about him. Just ignore him," Nick tried to comfort her.
Sheryl didn't respond until she realized who Nick was referring to.
"I'm fine. But do you mean that you don't like Damian?" Sheryl asked in an easy tone.
Nick decided to be frank. He said, "Yes, I don't like him. Have you forgotten what happened to you? That was Damian's fault."
"He shouldn't be blamed. It's my..." However, before Sheryl could finish her sentence, Nick interrupted her.
"He is to blame! Why did he take you to the hotel? But let's just not talk about it anymore. Sher, remember to stay away from him, or who knows what else he could do to you," Nick said, sincerely. Sheryl just nodded. She didn't have feelings for Damian anyway, and it was really better if she just stayed away from him.
Soon, the car stopped at Sheryl's apartment. Nick got out and went to the trunk of the car to get Sheryl's things. Sheryl offered to help, but he refused.
"Sher, go in first. The kids are waiting for you," Nick said with a smile.
Sheryl smiled back and nodded.
The moment they walked into the dining hall, they heard the kids talking. One asked, "Is Mum back? I heard a noise coming from a car."
"That must be mum. Let's go out and find her."
Then the two kids came running out of their room excitedly.
Upon hearing this, Sheryl's eyes immediately welled up with tears. She quickly walked towards her kids with excitement.
Nick knew why Sheryl felt that way. He just kept silent as he accompanied her.
"Mum!"
"Mum, it's you. We've been waiting for you!" Shirley jumped into Sheryl's arms upon seeing her.
Sheryl knelt down and embraced her daughter happily. At that moment, she felt as if she owned the whole world.
Seeing Shirley was in Sheryl's arms, Clark slowed down, and then he cried happily, "Mum!"
