Chapter 2084 Getting Out Of Trouble
It was silent in the ward except for the TV that Sheryl watched without looking away.
The TV was flashing the live broadcast of the press conference for the Shining Company. An inscrutable Charles stood in front of reporters.
"Next, there's an important announcement." After looking around the room to make sure all eyes were on him, Charles said, "Sheryl and I are already divorced." The room burst into a flurry of activity because they couldn't believe their ears, and they were so excited that they couldn't stop discussing it with each other. "They're divorced?"
"Really? Is that true? How is that possible?"
Sheryl looked serious. She didn't expect that Charles would announce it in public.
Before the announcement, only their close friends and family had known that they had divorced. It was a complicated matter that they couldn't announce to the public. More importantly, it would make their children sad.
There was also the fact that the public would discuss it, and that shareholders would suspect Charles' ability to manage the company. The situation would be harmful to Charles' company and reputation. But Charles had announced now that they had already divorced, so what did he want to do?
It made Sheryl sad to think that now they would only be strangers to each other, even if she didn't understand why that would make her unhappy.
"It's up to you to believe it, but we've already divorced. We didn't announce it to the public. It was our decision for our privacy. We didn't need to announce it in public. But some reporters invaded Sheryl's privacy. It's very annoying!"
That made everyone silent because it was obvious that Charles was furious.
They all knew that Charles was going to seek revenge.
"Sheryl can fall in love with anyone. Don't report her personal life again. You'll suffer dire consequences if you don't listen."
Charles' every word echoed, and he said every single one slowly, which frightened everyone who was listening.
It was a fact that Charles, the president of the Shining Company, never told lies. There would be repercussions if they tried to report about Sheryl. It was silent and still as no one dared to move or speak. Some reporters tried to step out but were immediately stopped by the guards. Everyone was nervous, from the reporters that didn't do anything but especially those who did.
The idea of Charles' revenge terrified and drove everyone anxious.
In a five-star hotel, Damian was also watching the live broadcast.
It shocked and surprised him to hear Charles' words.
It made him feel lost and uncertain if he took advantage of Sheryl's divorce to chase after her.
Especially now that Charles chose to announce that they had divorced. That shocked and surprised Damian even more.
It also made Damian annoyed because he knew why Charles held this press conference now after so long. It was all to help Sheryl get out of the current situation. Otherwise, he wouldn't have ever announced it in public.
Charles loved Sheryl very much. And Sheryl? If Sheryl loved him back, what was there for Damian to do?
It saddened Damian to think about it.
Why did two people that obviously loved each other divorce?
Rob's words hit Damian after he thought for a while.
'Charles has given up on Sheryl this time, and he admitted it, so why can't I chase after Sheryl? Why?'
It made Damian want to drive to the hospital to see Sheryl. What did she think of the press conference?
Since he was decisive, Damian took action at once and took out his phone to call Duke.
"Hello? Do you want to have dinner together?" Duke's tone was obviously teasing. "Did you watch the news?"
"What?" Duke was outside to do business and didn't know what was happening.
"Charles held a press conference to announce he and Sheryl are divorced."
"What? Charles announced it himself?" It hit Duke like a shock.
"Please find an editor to help me write a new article about me and Sheryl. Hurry up!"
"A new article about you and Sheryl? Do you think this isn't serious?" It confused Duke because he couldn't understand why Damian wanted to have a new article.
Damian didn't want to explain it. "Just do it. I'll send you the draft by email soon. Please find an excellent editor to help me polish it."
"Well... All right," Duke promised.
Damian hung up and turned his computer on. He paused for a moment to think and then quickly began typing.
It only took a few minutes for him to send a draft to Duke by email.
"Hello. I've sent you the draft. Take a look at it." Damian called Duke again once he was done.
"Okay! I'll find you an editor soon." Duke was surprised at Damian's speed. He couldn't help but make a joke and said, "You wrote in such a short time to chase a beauty." "I've got something important to do. Bye!" He wasn't in the mood for jokes, so Damian hung up.
It didn't anger Duke, and he just continued to make a plan.
After he switched off his computer, Damian immediately left the hotel.
In the ward, Sheryl understood what Charles meant.
It made her feel empty inside, and she didn't understand how she felt, nor how she could face Charles in the future.
She didn't expect that Charles would help her, nor that he would make such a big sacrifice. What was even more unexpected was the guilt she felt at the help.
It took everything she had to try to stop her tears, but she failed. She couldn't help but cry. It was then that someone yelled outside her ward.
She hurriedly tried to wipe her tears as Isla rushed into her ward.
"Sher! Sher!" Isla voice echoed as she rushed to Sheryl.
It frightened Sheryl to see Isla run so quickly and made her ask, "Who's chasing you? What happened?"
"Sher, turn on the TV." Isla didn't even finish her words when she saw Charles on the TV.
"Oh, you're watching TV now." Isla was panting and said quickly, "I saw it too, so I hurried to tell you. I even wore the wrong shoes..."
