Chapter 33
MALIK VLADIMIR
His dad definitely didn’t deserve it but Malik was doing it for himself. He was holding a funeral for his dad, for himself.
Straight after the cremation, they would be hosting his Alpha ceremony and their Mating ceremony – all in one. He was hopeful that the good would outweigh the bad, but it was just that. Hope. False hope.
As terrible as his dad was, he was his dad and now, he was gone. There weren’t many good times for Malik to reminisce so perhaps, that would make things easier.
But right now, it was difficult to watch the fire burn in front of him. To watch his father burn in front of him. To watch the remainder of his family burn in front of him.
Once the last of the ashes had been burnt and the fire had been put out, Malik swivelled around to face the pack. What he was about to announce would take a lot of courage on his part, especially with how worked up the pack was over this whole situation, he had his mate by his side and that was all that mattered.
“I’m sure all of you are wondering exactly what has been going on around here these past couple of weeks,” Malik cleared his throat as he began talking. “My father, your previously Alpha, Orpheus Vladimir and his loyal group of wolves have committed several crimes against werewolf kind. Not only were they kidnaps and murdering pups, but they were trying to resurrect Lord Erebus. I, along with all of you had prayed to Lord Erebus day after day without knowing of the true evil that he is. Not only would he have wiped out all werewolves that didn’t believe in him, he would have destroyed the Moon Goddess.”
Malik could see that many had a lot to say as there was a lot to question but now was not the time for questions.
“There are several reasons that resurrecting Lord Erebus and freeing him from the shackles that the Moon Goddess had locked him away in would have been detrimental as us as wolves, but now is not the time to go into those details. For those that would like to learn more about what happened, the specific details will be made available to you over the coming days but for now, we have a lot of work to do.” Malik paused to glance around all the pack members, holding a few particular pairs of eyes as he tried to get his point across. “Erebus was born from chaos and to chaos he has returned. “
“Now that all of you know what’s really been going, and that things are going to completely change around here from now on, you all have a choice. Well, you have several choices,” Malik informed them, making a point of turning his head to glance around the large crowd of wolves that he was now in charge of; that he was now responsible for. “If any of you would like to challenge me as Alpha, feel free to do so. If anyone would like to leave this pack for another, feel free to do so.
Malik wasn’t quite sure what he was expecting but when there was only a handful of wolves that stepped forward, all of them choosing to leave, he couldn’t help but release a breath he didn’t even know he was holding.
He stood back and watched as everyone – all those that chose to remain – moved back into the pack house. After all, there were a lot of preparations still pending and considering the amount of wolves that would be showing up for the two ceremonies Malik was determined to hold today, there was a lot left to do.
He probably should have followed them as this was a classic case of the more hands, the better. But he couldn’t move. Not his father’s ashes still lingered in the air behind him.
Malik wasn’t sure why he was still stood here, or even why he cared. It wasn’t like his dad had cared for him in the way that he needed him to; in the way that a father should have cared for his son.
Orpheus Vladimir was many things, but a good father was not one of them. In fact, the wolf couldn’t have been further from a good father if he tried.
But for some reason, Malik couldn’t help but stand out here. He couldn’t help but feel sad that things hadn’t ended differently; that he hadn’t needed to do what he had done. But most of all, he wished that his father wasn’t such a wicked person.
If his father wasn’t so wicked, if he hadn’t drove his mother to kill herself as that was the only way to escape him, if he didn’t plan for Lord Erebus to wipe out all werewolf kind so he could build his very own army of brainwashed wolves, then maybe things could have been different.
But they weren’t.
“I’m so sorry you’ve had to go through all of this,” Trinity whispered, looping her arms around his waist as she hugged him from behind.
“I’m not,” Malik murmured back, placing his hands over hers, enjoying the warmth and comfort that only his mate could provide. “All of this had to happen. If it didn’t, perhaps we wouldn’t be here today.”
“At least we ca be relieved that all of this is now over.”
“That we can,” his curled up slightly at the corners, a smile so small but speaking magnitudes of how relieved and grateful that all of this was now over.
Malik may now officially be an orphan with no blood relatives left, but he felt the love of a family like he had never felt before.
