Chapter 113 – The Alphas’ Porn Star Mate
M
"Chloe! Run back!" Rodger screamed. He was close. Too close for my liking. His magic wasn't working on the wolf, which he seemed to realize. Why he was still chasing us and putting himself in danger was beyond me. I didn't want to abandon my mates as they fought, but Rodger would be in danger if I didn't turn back. "Our mates would want us to go," Cortina said fiercely, then started to run towards Rodger. "There are others to help too."
She was right. The field was littered with our warriors, all the other invading wolves already close to defeated. Billy and Beta Desmond's wolves were already heading over from the other side of the chaos to help.
Cortina was just a few yards away from Rodger when a sickening crack followed by a howling scream echoed behind us. I felt it. The stabbing pain in my gut that meant one of my mates was horribly hurt. Looking behind us, I saw a tree falling backward, Rome's dark body crumbled in front of it. The tree was broken with his body being thrown into it. The red Alpha's vicious eyes were on me as he pinned Ivar to the ground with his giant body. His jaws were open wide, dripping in blood, and I knew his intent. He was going to rip into the back of my mate's neck, killing him.
He couldn't. I wouldn't lose my mates. I wouldn't let this demon wolf take either of them from me. I'm not going to lose the men I love.
Something in me snapped. Something as hot as Cortina's rage and my desperation. It was some crazed energy, wild and untamed. The vibrations in our body from our furious growl shook through our entire being, shooting through our limbs to where Cortina's claws were scratched deep into the dirt. My heart beat faster and faster, like it was running in my chest. I could feel this new hot heat erupting into the soil, traveling as an extension of us.
Time around us seemed to still. The roars and chaos of the battle went quiet. The howls and cries of our warriors were halted. Rodger's pleas were cut off as the energy overtook me. It was like electrical roots extending from Cortina's claws. She pressed down and flexed her paws, and two answering roots of violet power struck up like lightning from the ground on either side of the red Alpha's giant frame. The neon purple cords wrapped around his body, throwing him backward as time started to move again. He was ripped away from my mate, and tossed into the dark forest.
Cortina ignored the yells from Rodger, and the confusion in the pack's mind link. She blocked out everything except for saving our mates from another attack and sprinted forward into the trees. The Red Alpha was recovering back to his feet, snarling viciously in our direction. He geared up, ready to pounce my way, but that violet energy seeped out of Cortina into a pillowing cloud at our feet, lifting us into the air before he could reach us.
She gave herself over to me, shifting midair, so I was human again as I came down onto the hazy purple cloud. The red Alpha charged again, and this time, I extended my hands, sending a blast of energy its way. I threw my hands together, directing the blast at a single tree behind the wolf. The tree started to quake, then toppled over, almost landing on the Alpha.
We did this several more times, this power shooting out like an extension of me toward tree after tree, trying to bring them down on top of the wolf.
My legs were numb. I could no longer feel my feet. I knew I was losing this power, but my fear of losing my mates was too strong to give up the fight. Luckily, the lone red Alpha, now all on his own with just me and a pack at my back, looked ready for retreat.
With one final blow aimed at a branch right above his head, the Alpha let out one last warning howl and sprinted on his retreat.
"Bout fucking...... time." My body felt like it was being swayed in the wind. As I watched the wolf disappear, my vision became blurry and the numbness overtook me entirely.
Miles POV
What the hell did I just see?
I thought I was going to die. I knew it. I saw death in the eyes of the monster of a wolf that was trying to take my mate, trying to take my world. I felt the grip of despair knowing I was helpless against whatever evil was inside this thing, and then just as I was begging the goddess for this not to be the end, not for me, my brother, and not for my mate, two blinding ropes of purple energy wrapped around the monstrous red wolf above me, throwing him off like he weighed nothing.
He was solid. Heavier than any wolf could naturally be. It was like he had the mass and strength of twenty wolves, but the blinding energy coming up from the ground like purple lightning threw him off so easily.
I was stunned, frozen in confusion and relief. That relief died when my mate came barreling past me, chasing the red wolf into the thickest part of the forest. She was encircled in the same purple energy that I had just seen overpower the invading Alpha. The power was bleeding out of her, leaving glowing paw prints as she ran.
"He's coming to," I heard from Billy in the link.
Ivar looked to see what he was talking about, seeing Mick on the side of a felled tree. Rome had receded, leaving Mick naked on the ground, but he didn't look badly hurt. Just shaken.
A thunderous blast shook the ground beneath Ivar's paws. Everyone looked around in confusion, but then Rodger ran close.
"She's awakening!"
I wasn't sure what he meant, but I felt this strange surge coming from my mate. It was fueled by fear and something deeper. Something that made my chest pound. The forest was blinded with purple light. I knew it was Chloe.
