Chapter 697 The Best Love
An optimistic person would always look for an opportunity at any situation, while the pessimistic person would complain all the time. As the saying went, "Tragedy in life is often related to personality."
"If that's the case, then I will be relieved. You are so kind, Rick," said Nancy.
"What a pity that you won't marry me!" Although Rick said this in a joking manner, there was still a hint of seriousness in his tone.
Therefore, Nancy felt a little awkward, but she only smiled and didn't say anything.
No matter what happened to her and Charles, starting a new relationship with another man never crossed her mind. Dating was the least thing she could think of as of the moment.
Not knowing how furious Charles was right now, Nancy chatted with Rick as they walked around his hospital.
Today was a busy day for Charles. He had a lot of things to do in the company, but thinking that Nancy was still at the hospital with Jade, he came there early.
But when he arrived, he learned that Nancy already left.
"Left? Where did she go?" His eyebrows furrowed in an instant.
The pediatric department wasn't as busy as before with Brandy's presence.
Charles had already told Hobart that Nancy was too busy recently to work.
Since Charles said so, Hobart could only agree.
But it turned out that Nancy didn't tell Charles about her plan for today.
"Charles, don't blame Nancy. A patient wanted her to personally check on him, and she did it for her career." A proud smile appeared on Jade's face.
"I just don't want you to feel bad. Nancy is your daughter, so you probably want to be with her, don't you?" Charles said in a soft voice.
"Not really. I just hope that Nancy will be fine. I'm already old. I can't drag you down with everything. It's going to make me feel uneasy." After saying this, Jade let out a sigh.
"Auntie, I have an idea. How about you live with us? I'll find someone to take care of you. With Nancy and the children around, you won't feel lonely anymore." This wasn't the first time that Charles thought about this idea. He just couldn't say it because he hadn't married Nancy yet.
But now that Jade just had an operation, Charles found an opportunity to say it. Although she had almost recovered, she was already too old to live alone, and he thought it was not appropriate for her to stay in the sanatorium.
Old people might say it didn't matter, but the truth was, they really wanted to be with their children.
However, Jade still turned down his idea. "No, thanks. I'm fine here now. You are all so busy. I don't want to cause you any more trouble. As long as you, Nancy and the children are fine, I'm satisfied." "Well, if that's what you want. Anyway, I'm leaving. When I'm free, Nancy and I will visit you again." Although he was a bit disappointed, Charles respected her decision. "Okay."
After leaving Jade's ward, Charles immediately called Nancy. To his surprise, Nancy's phone was turned off.
'She turned off her phone?'
Suddenly, Charles felt annoyed.
'Is she performing another operation?'
Thinking of this, he called Erin to ask where Nancy was.
But her reply only got him more confused, because Erin said Nancy had already left.
'Nancy has gone out instead of staying with Jade. Where did she go?'
The next thing Charles did was call the kindergarten, but the teacher said the two children behaved well today and there was nothing unpleasant that happened.
He just lost contact with Nancy like this.
The restless Charles called Doris, but the latter said she didn't see Nancy, nor did she know where she went.
In fact, she didn't have the luxury to mind other people's lives. Her life was like a rollercoaster, and it was kind of hard to figure out. It seemed like Jay had forgotten about Eva's existence, but he would occasionally wake up sweating in the middle of the night as if he had a nightmare.
What was in the past that was making it hard for Jay to forget?
What kind of girl Eva was? Why couldn't Jay simply let go of her?
However, no matter what happened in their past, Doris had no right to interfere.
All she could do was wait for the time to slowly pass, until they could walk out of the past.
Jay hadn't come home again.
This made Doris remember the time when he went to the Su family's house.
So she called Jay to ask where he was. He answered the call, but he sounded like he was in a hurry. "I'm very busy now, so don't call me again. I will go home as soon as I'm done with all of these." Since Jay answered her call, Doris was a little relieved. Because it meant nothing bad happened to him, and he was just too busy.
To be honest, she was suspicious when Jay said he was very busy. But she couldn't ask too much, so she just chose to wait patiently for him to come home.
Lately, Jay was often absent-minded. When he was in a meeting or when he was at home accompanying his family, his mind seemed to wander somewhere else.
The smile on Eva's face would suddenly pop up in his mind from time to time.
If Eva scolded him, he would feel much better than now.
But she didn't. Instead, she spoke so lightly as if nothing happened. "Don't make things difficult for Jay. My car accident has nothing to do with him. I didn't take good care of myself, that's why it happened." How could Jay not be guilty when the whole world thought it was his fault, but Eva, the victim, was still helping him out?
The more he thought about it, the guiltier he felt.
That was why he always looked absent-minded when he was doing something.
Unexpectedly, when he was about to drive home, he received a call from Pam.
Seeing her name made Jay feel uneasy. He didn't know why, but every time he faced her, he would immediately get nervous.
Didn't Pam tell him not to appear in front of her for the rest of his life, let alone disturb Eva's life?
This was what he was trying to do now. But why did Pam call him all of a sudden?
After thinking for a while, Jay answered the phone with an awkward smile. "Hello, Mrs. Su. I'm Jay."
"I know it's you. Are you free today?" Pam asked in a stiff voice.
"What?" Her question stunned Jay for a second. "Yes, of course. What can I do for you, Mrs. Su?"
"Nothing. It's just that today is Eva's birthday. I hope you can come." Although Pam was inviting him, she was still indifferent.
It was because she didn't really want to see Jay for the rest of her life, and she didn't want Eva to have any contact with him. But today was Eva's birthday, and she had to work hard to fulfil her daughter's wish.
Because when she asked Eva what her wish was, she said,
"Mom, let Jay come to my birthday. I miss him. I want to see him."
Longing was evident in Eva's eyes as she mentioned Jay's name.
A lump formed in Pam's throat when she saw sadness crossed Eva's eyes. Her daughter had lost her love because of a car accident.
But Jay was now married.
What should Pam do?
With a heavy heart, Pam stared at her daughter blankly.
