Chapter 688 Disturb
"Okay, I know. But Joseph, Fannie is just being stupid. Can you forgive her? She has been taken away by the police. Please speak on her behalf." Although Nancy seemed to be pleading, a hint of indifference was very evident in her voice.
It was clear that Joseph, as the victim, needed his justice. But Nancy knew that if he would not dismiss his case, Fannie would undoubtedly be jailed.
"Nancy, you don't have to beg me for this. I'll do as my brother says. You can call him. For now, I just want to sleep some more. I'm sorry, but I'm too tired," Joseph said lazily, pulling the quilt up to his chest to show that he was ready to take a rest.
"Well, have a good rest. I'm leaving." Hearing his evident dismissal back by his exhaustion, Nancy felt embarrassed to disturb him. So immediately, she walked out of the ward.
Once out in the corridor, she saw Daisy walking towards her way.
"Miss Yu?" she asked in a very reserved voice.
"Hello, Miss Ning! Are you here to visit Joseph?" Daisy, who flashed her a smile, asked.
"Yes, he is awake. You can go in. I'm leaving," Nancy answered nonchalantly and prepared to turn around.
It was very apparent how Daisy cared so much about Joseph. After facing a lot of adversities, the two finally got together.
It was definitely worth the long wait, a true happy ending.
"Okay," Daisy uttered before walking into the ward.
As soon as Joseph closed his eyes, he heard the door being clicked open. Thinking that it was still Nancy, he uttered with impatience, "Didn't I told you to look for Charles? Why are you still here, Nancy?" "Joseph, it's me..." In a voice as soft as cotton candy, Daisy corrected him.
Hearing that, Joseph immediately opened his eyes and said, "Daisy, how could you come to see me?"
"What? Am I not allowed to visit you?" Confused, Daisy furrowed her brows tightly.
Last night, Joseph begged her to be his date, but she refused. They were divorced, and she didn't want to degrade herself by being with him. After all, she knew that people would still have something terrible to say to her if she got together with him.
So, even with his tempting proposal last night, Daisy went to bed early after rejecting him.
Ever since she lived with Joseph, Daisy noticed that he would often come home early whenever he attended social parties. And every time, she would prepare a warm bath for him.
However, that night, Joseph did not come back home.
He didn't say anything to Daisy, so she was left alone, wondering where he was.
And because she was worried, Daisy skipped dinner and instead turned on her phone, wanting to go to the filming location.
When she went downstairs, she accidentally heard the news about Joseph.
Immediately, her heart missed a beat. 'Joseph and Fannie?
What?! Fannie drugged him?
But why?! Joseph may be a playboy, but there was no need to drug him.
Was he the one who wanted it?' she thought.
The more Daisy thought about it, the angrier she became. However, after reading the comments online, she learned that Joseph was the victim. Thankfully, he called the police and was sent to the hospital. 'What the hell is going on?'
Clueless and worried at the same time, Daisy rushed to the hospital.
And now, she was face to face with Joseph, who looked utterly pale. It seemed as if all his blood was drawn out of his body.
A hint of guilt and pity was written all over Daisy's face as she stared at him.
"Daisy, why are you looking at me like that?" Joseph asked, slightly surprised to see that reaction register on her delicate face.
"What did you do? Why didn't you call me after you were sent here?" Daisy complained; her voice was etched with a tiny hint of frustration.
"It was already late. I was afraid I'd disturb you, so I didn't call. How did you know I was here?" Joseph asked in surprise.
He was too embarrassed to say that he had spent the whole night in torment while missing her so bad at the same time.
And seeing her here right now just lit the fire he thought had already dissipated.
"The internet is in an uproar. How can I not know? Now, everyone knows," answered Daisy, rubbing her
forehead.
"Ah, I didn't expect that this matter would be all over the news. Daisy, I'm the victim here. You have to believe me. I really didn't have sex with Fannie. Ever since we lived together, I've never spent a night with another woman. My body and my heart only belong to you. Please believe me!" Joseph shouted anxiously, almost begging while lying weakly on the hospital bed.
Perhaps it was because of anxiety and the remains of the drug that his face turned extremely red.
"Well, I believe you. Don't worry about it. The most important thing is, how are you feeling right now? Do you want to eat something?" Looking at Joseph's anxious face, Daisy comforted him.
"I don't want to eat. I want to sleep. I'm exhausted!" he complained while his face winced in slight pain.
"Then sleep for a while. I'll get you something to eat." Daisy stood up and prepared to go out.
"Don't go, Daisy. Please...I miss you. I don't want to eat anything right now. I just want you to stay with me." Joseph grabbed her arm tightly and begged for her to stay.
He really needed Daisy's company right now, especially after all the ruckus that happened last night.
"Okay, go to sleep. I'll be here," Slowly, Daisy settled on the edge of the bed while softly holding his hand.
"Daisy, you believe me, don't you? You believe that Fannie framed me. I swear I didn't take the initiative to provoke her. I don't feel anything for her! I only love you!" Joseph explained again, making sure that he was understood.
In fact, his desperate expression showed how he was afraid that Daisy wouldn't believe him.
"Don't worry. I believe you." When Daisy came here, she was a little suspicious. After all, what Joseph had done in the past was still vividly etched in her mind. And although he had been honest since they lived together, she knew that he was like a wild wolf who wouldn't be tamed easily.
Perhaps he would change back at anytime?
But after hearing his explanation, deep down, Daisy really believed in his words.
Otherwise, Joseph wouldn't explain it like that, coupled with extreme desperation painted on his face.
Relieved, he shut his eyes and didn't let go of Daisy's hand. Slowly, he was taken into dreamland.
At the same time, Daisy smiled bitterly as she stared at him peacefully sleeping. Who would have thought that someone as wild and untamed as him would look this calm and serene when fast asleep? Meanwhile, Nancy remained firm and didn't go to the police station.
She was thinking about the situation when she unexpectedly got a call from Clark.
"Dad, are you okay?" asked Nancy, heaving a deep sigh.
"I'm fine. I've heard that Fannie has done something wrong again, and now everyone in the city knows about it. Nancy, you know she is reckless and stupid, but she is still your sister. I don't want to interfere, but I can't let her rot in jail. You know only you can help me, right?" Clark sighed helplessly as he explained his sentiments.
He really didn't want to meddle in it anymore. All he wanted now was to take care of himself.
As for the news online, it was really out of his hands. All Clark wanted to do in his old age was read, drink tea, and relax every day.
But after what Fannie did, he couldn't get himself to just sit around and relax. Her daughter had caused trouble and now he was indirectly caught in it too.
In fact, Clark only learned about it when Jill came back from the hospital. The woman doubted that Nancy wouldn't do as Jill begged, so the latter turned to her husband for help. "Clark." Jill broke into tears as soon as she spoke.
And every time she cried, Clark thought that her tears were like the tears of a crocodile. So, he asked impatiently, "What's wrong? Why are you crying?"
"Well, who else can make me sad? It's your daughter again, Fannie! She went to a dinner party last night. I thought she was drunk and stayed overnight outside, but I didn't expect to receive a call from the police this morning. They said that she drugged Joseph, and now she is locked in the police station. Clark, Fannie is our daughter. You can't stand by and do nothing! I went to see Nancy today, and although she agreed, I'm still worried that she would ignore us. Or accidentally forget my request. I know Nancy is so busy, so can you please go and see her? Just remind her to help us. Wooh..." After that, Jill's tears rolled endlessly down her cheeks.
